Day 12 Tokyo, Japan

Docked: 05:30 - 20:00

Tokyo is an exhilarating metropolis that perfectly blends ancient tradition with future-forward technology, offering visitors a dynamic contrast of experiences. For a glimpse into its deep history, visit the iconic Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, the city's oldest Buddhist temple, and stroll the vibrant Nakamise shopping street. For a moment of serenity amidst the urban buzz, explore the vast, tranquil forest surrounding the sacred Meiji Jingu Shinto Shrine, providing a peaceful escape right in the heart of the city.

The city's famously efficient transportation system quickly connects you to its world-renowned urban centres. Stand at the Shibuya Scramble Crossing, the world's busiest intersection, or immerse yourself in the dazzling neon-lit entertainment and shopping district of Shinjuku. For unparalleled vistas, ascend the towering Tokyo Skytree for a panoramic view of the entire Kanto region, or visit the sleek Shibuya Sky observation deck for a thrilling perspective of the cityscape below (charges apply).

Day 13 Shimizu, Japan

Docked: 07:00 - 17:00

Shimizu is one of Japan's most picturesque coastal cities, globally renowned for offering stunning, frame-worthy views of the iconic Mount Fuji from its serene location on Suruga Bay. The most popular highlight is the nearby Nihondaira Plateau, accessible via a scenic ropeway ride (approximately $11 round trip), which provides a magnificent, panoramic vantage point overlooking the bay, the city, and, on clear days, a breathtaking perspective of Mount Fuji. At the plateau’s summit is the beautiful Kunozan Toshogu Shrine, the original mausoleum of the great Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, featuring vibrantly decorated architecture that is designated as a National Treasure of Japan.

Another essential cultural experience is visiting Miho no Matsubara, a seven-kilometer coastline lined with picturesque pine trees that is recognised as a component of the Mount Fuji UNESCO World Heritage site, offering a classic Japanese view that has inspired artists for centuries. For those who prefer to stay close to the water, the lively S-Pulse Dream Plaza is a popular waterfront complex featuring shopping, a Ferris wheel with great views, and the unique Shimizu Sushi Museum and surrounding Sushi Alley, where you can taste the region’s famous, super-fresh tuna.

Day 14 Osaka, Japan

Docked: 11:00 - 23:00

Osaka, often called Japan's "kitchen," is a chaotic, colourful, and famously friendly metropolis, providing an essential dive into the country's exuberant food culture, history, and modern entertainment. A perfect day blends feasting on local specialties like takoyaki (octopus balls) and okonomiyaki with sightseeing. The undisputed centrepiece of any visit is the dazzling Dotonbori district, a vibrant, canal-side hub known for its massive, illuminated signage - including the iconic Glico Running Man - fantastic street food stalls, and the famous Shinsaibashi-suji shopping arcade.

Easily accessible from the bay area is the towering Osaka Castle, a magnificent reconstruction of one of Japan’s most significant fortifications; visitors can explore its modern museum interior and climb to the top for panoramic city views, all set within a beautiful park that is particularly spectacular during the cherry blossom season. For a taste of old Osaka, the retro Shinsekai district, with its nostalgic feel and the landmark Tsutenkaku Tower, offers a glimpse into the city's past and is the perfect place to try kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers).

Gratuities / tipping

Land
Tipping is a firm and customary element of the tourism industry and is therefore expected. The expected tipping amount is $12 AUD or 60 RMB per person per day. While tipping is not mandatory, it is a common practice in China and a gesture of appreciation which is shared amongst the local guides, drivers and other staff members who have serviced your tour. The tipping amount can be paid in AUD or RMB to your expert tour guide in each region. As most tour guides in China consider tipping a part of their income, please don’t feel intimidated should the tour guides approach you as they bid you farewell.

Please note: Tipping for services provided is always a matter of personal discretion; however, please be aware that many locals consider tipping part of their normal remuneration, and they may approach you for payment; there's no need to be intimidated by the request.

Cruise
Gratuities (tips) are included in the tour price for the services of the cruise staff throughout the cruise component of this tour, however, additional gratuities may apply to onboard purchases.

Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

Please note: If you have any concerns, please consult your healthcare provider prior to purchase/travel.
