Frequently Asked Questions
Want to know more about Hurtigruten
Are gratuities included?

Tipping isn't customary on Hurtigruten ships. However, if you wish to show appreciation for exceptional service, tip boxes are available in the restaurant and at reception. Collected funds are then distributed equally among the crew.

How do I pay onboard a Hurtigruten cruise?

On a Hurtigruten cruise, the Norwegian Kroner (NOK) is the onboard currency, though most major currencies can be exchanged. You can pay for extras using a cruise card, which is issued at check-in and settled at the end of the voyage, or with cash and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Diners).

Can I bring my own alcohol onboard?

You cannot consume outside alcohol on a Hurtigruten ship, except for wine and champagne which incur a $20 corkage fee per 750ml bottle. Alcohol purchased onshore must be handed to the crew for storage and will be returned on the last day. Hurtigruten ships do not have duty-free shops.

Do I need a passport to take a Hurtigruten cruise?

Yes, a valid passport is essential for Hurtigruten cruises.

The passport must be valid for six months after the day your cruise ends. The name on your passport should also match the name on your reservation.

Are Hurtigruten cruises family-friendly?

Hurtigruten ships welcome families focusing on a relaxed, immersive experience. Rather than traditional cruise entertainment, the emphasis is on exploring the Norwegian coastline. Amenities include observation lounges, bars, gyms, saunas and outdoor hot tubs.

Are there Adults-Only areas on Hurtigruten cruises?

Hurtigruten ships are designed to accommodate adventurers of all ages with no specific adults-only zones.

Will the ship have Wi-Fi?

Yes, Hurtigruten ships offer complimentary Wi-Fi, but speed and coverage can vary depending on location and satellite connection.

How do I check-in for my cruise?

The check-in procedure for your Hurtigruten cruise takes place at the terminal or the ship. Please ensure you have a valid passport readily available for embarkation.
