Day 6 Hakodate, Japan

Arrive: 07:00 - Depart: 16:00

In 1859, the port of Hakodate became the first Japanese city fully opened to Westerners under the Treaty of Amity and Commerce. Foreigners soon flocked to Hakodate, and today visitors wandering the cobblestone streets of the city's Motomachi District can view their Western-style frame houses. Hakodate, once a fishing port famed for its high quality fish and shellfish, quickly became Hokkaido's largest city and one of Japan's most important ports. The Great Hakodate Fire of 1934 dealt the city a near fatal blow that Hakodate was slow to recover.

Today the city is Hokkaido's third largest - surpassed by Sapporo and Asahikawa - but retains its foremost position as the finest Japanese producer of sushi's high quality raw seafood caught in Hokkaido's cold waters. While Tokyo's Tsukiji's Fish Market is much larger, Hakodate's four-block-long Morning Market offers a stunning array of fresh fish and shellfish prized for sushi including salmon roe, sea urchin, scallops and crab. Restaurants and food stands prepare a wide arrange of dishes including domburi topped with fresh seafood.

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 7 Niigata, Japan

Arrive: 09:00 - Depart: 18:00

Traditionally famous for rice making and sake production, Niigata is the place for gourmet aficionados. It is also well known for the seafood caught from the Sea of Japan. Historically, Niigata developed from the wealth gained through shipping and trade by Kitamae-bune, cargo ships operated along the Sea of Japan between Hokkaido and Osaka from mid-18th century to the end of the 19th century. To the south of Niigata is the Tsubame-Sanjo area famous today for metalworking. This derives from the production of Japanese nails used for Japanese traditional architecture.

To discover Japanese craftsmanship, you will have the chance to visit the Suwada Open Factory. Also nearby is the religious centre of Niigata in Yahiko. The Yahiko Shrine has gathered the devotion of the locals for more than a millennium. (Optional shore excursions can be booked with Princess Cruises, charges apply)

Day 8 Cruising

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Day 9 Busan, South Korea

Arrive: 07:00 - Depart: 16:00

The second largest city in South Korea, Busan is your gateway to a fascinating land whose culture is a unique amalgam of old and new. Modern high-rise towers dwarf ancient Buddhist temples. The city's bustling business district offers a stark contrast to the serene grounds of Yongdusan Park. In short, Busan is a microcosm of South Korea, a nation whose startling economic success often obscures one of Asia's most sophisticated and venerable cultures.

Busan was also the scene of bitter fighting during the Korean War, and the United Nations Memorial Cemetery marks the final resting place for the troops from 16 nations who gave their lives during the conflict.

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 10 Nagasaki, Japan

Arrive: 07:00 - Depart: 16:00

For most travellers, Nagasaki is a symbol of the horror and the inhumanity of war. An estimated 74,000 people perished in 1945 when the city became the second target of a nuclear attack. Today, Nagasaki's Peace Park and Atomic Bomb Museum draw visitors from around the world (charges may apply).

But this beautiful city on Kyushu offers other sights. Often described as the San Francisco of Japan, the city occupies verdant hills surrounded by a deep-water bay. For over two centuries, Nagasaki was Japan's sole window on the world. The city is also celebrated as the setting for Puccini's opera "Madame Butterfly."

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 11 Kagoshima, Japan

Arrive: 07:00 - Depart:16:00

From the 12th century to the Meiji Restoration of 1868, Kagoshima was the chief stronghold of the mighty Shimazu clan. The city lies at the top of the Satsuma Peninsula, a mountainous, geothermal wonderland of hot springs and geysers. The area is also rich in modern Japanese history: Saigo Takamori and the Satsuma samurai were leaders of the Meiji Restoration that toppled the shogun and restored the Emperor to power in 1868. In 1877, dissatisfied with the direction of the new government, Saigo led the Satsuma Rebellion, which ended in his death and the final defeat of the samurai.

The symbol of Kagoshima is Sakura Jima - the volcanic island that sits just offshore. The volcano has erupted over 30 times in recorded history.

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 12 Kochi, Japan

Arrive: 09:00 - Depart: 17:00

Kochi sits on the broad alluvial plain facing Urado Bay. This city in Shikoku takes its name from the great feudal castle that sits at its very heart. Completed in 1611, Kochi Castle was the seat of Yamauchi Kazutoyo, a noted warrior who supported Tokugawa Ieyasu in his successful quest to become Shogun. Tosa Province and Kochi Castle were Yamauchi's reward for faithful service. There is an historical irony here: 250 years later, a Kochi native son - a former low-ranked samurai and now ronin named Sakamoto Ryoma - played a pivotal role in bringing the Tokugawa Shogunate to an end and restoring the Emperor of Japan to political prominence. The prize once awarded for faithful service had become a hotbed of support for the Meiji Restoration.

Kochi is one of the wettest places in Japan - and a frequent target for cyclonic storms or typhoons. Southeast of the city, warm oceans currents washing against the Aki Mountains create a subtropical landscape of hibiscus, palm and ficus at Muroto-Anan Quasi-National Park.

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 13 Shimizu (for Mount Fuji), Japan

Arrive: 13:00 - Depart: 19:00

A mesmerising landscape, a revered cultural history, and Japan's most sacred volcano are just a few delights beckoning you to come and explore this ancient city. While nearby Shizuoka may have a reputation as bustling and modern, its cultural and spiritual side is displayed in the form of ancient and enthralling shrines. Of course, the sacred and snow-capped Mount Fuji may garner the most attention. Towering over the region at approximately 3776 metres above sea level, this active volcano was designated a "place and source of artistic inspiration" by UNESCO and is just one of the many unforgettable adventures Shimizu inspires.

Please note: Your ship will dock at Shimizu Port, approximately 13 kilometres from Shizuoka and around 75 kilometres from Mount Fuji's primary viewing stations, optional shore excursions can be booked with Princess Cruises at an additional cost.

Please note: This port is accessed by tender boats. Boarding and disembarking tender boats may involve steps and uneven surfaces. While cruise lines strive to provide ease of access, accessibility options can vary at different tender ports. Passengers with mobility concerns are encouraged to inquire about specific arrangements and consider their individual needs when participating in tendering activities.

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 6 Osaka (for Kyoto), Japan

Arrive: 08:00 - Depart: 20:00

For centuries, Osaka was Japan's cultural and commercial gateway to Asia, the point of entry both for trade goods and, most importantly, cultural influences that shaped Japanese society. From tea to Zen, from art to science and philosophy, Osaka was Japan's contact with the great East Asian cultures that flourished in China and Korea. The city reached its zenith in the late 16th century, when the great feudal lord Toyotomi Hideyoshi made Osaka his capital. Toyotomi was master of Japan, and an immense administrative and commercial centre rapidly developed around Osaka Castle.

After Toyotomi's death, the nation's seat of power shifted from Osaka to a sleepy little fishing village called Edo, modern Tokyo. While overshadowed by Tokyo, Osaka remains one of Japan's largest cities and a vital commercial centre. Modern Osaka is home to monuments from Japan's past including Toyotomi's immense castle and the Sumiyoshi Shrine. The city is also your gateway to Kyoto, Japan's ancient imperial capital and the nation's cultural and spiritual centre.

Please note: Your ship will dock in Osaka, approximately 60 kilometres from Kyoto.

Day 8 Hiroshima, Japan

Arrive: 09:00 - Depart: 19:00

On August 6, 1945, human history was irrevocably altered when the American bomber Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. The bomb was code-named ""Little Boy,"" but its detonation left half the city in ruins and aflame. Today, Hiroshima is a monument not only to the destructive forces harnessed by men but also to the indomitable will of the human spirit to overcome tragedy.

At the heart of the city lies Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome. The gutted walls of the city's old Industry Promotion Hall and the skeletal frame that supported its copper dome, vaporized in the blast, are instantly recognizable symbols of Hiroshima. Travellers to Hiroshima will discover a more serene note at nearby Miyajima Island. One of the top-three scenic spots of Japan, the island is home to ancient Itsukushima Shrine, a designated National Treasure.

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Japan
During the transition from summer to autumn, Japan’s weather varies significantly by latitude: Tokyo, Niigata, and Shimizu experience peak heat and high humidity in July and August (highs of 29–32°C), followed by a rainy, typhoon-prone September (23–27°C) and a pleasant, crisper October (18–22°C). In the south, Nagasaki, Kagoshima, and Kochi are consistently hotter and more tropical, with August highs frequently reaching 33°C and remaining warm well into October (highs around 23–25°C). Conversely, Hakodate in the north offers a much cooler retreat, with mild July and August temperatures peaking at only 23–25°C, dropping rapidly to a cool 15–16°C by October. Across all regions except Hokkaido, the "Tsuyu" rainy season typically ends in mid-July, making August the sunniest but most oppressive month, while September carries the highest risk of tropical storms before the clear, mild "golden" days of autumn arrive in October.

Busan, South Korea
Busan’s weather during these months closely mirrors the patterns of Japan's southern coastal cities like Nagasaki and Kochi. In July and August, the city experiences its peak heat and humidity, with average highs ranging from 28°C to 30°C and frequent "tropical nights" where temperatures rarely dip below 23°C. This period also marks the height of the monsoon season, making July the wettest month of the year with significant rainfall. As the season shifts into September, the intense humidity begins to break, though average highs remain warm at around 26°C and the risk of typhoons remains present. By October, Busan enters its most comfortable period; the air becomes much drier and crisper, with pleasant daytime highs of 22°C and cool evenings averaging 13°C, offering ideal conditions for outdoor activities and viewing the early autumn foliage.

We always suggest referring to an online source for the most up-to-date weather information for your destination/s.

FLIGHTS
Seat Selection & Frequent Flyer Points:
We do not arrange seat selection. It is essential to highlight that some airlines do not allow pre-selected seats. We strongly suggest you contact the airline directly with seating allocation requirements and/or arrive at the airport earlier to arrange your seating. While we do not add frequent flyer member details to bookings, you can do this directly with the airline once you have your flight information.

Dietary Requests
Meal options and availability differ between airlines and routes therefore not all dietary requests can be accommodated. If your flight includes meals we will select the most suitable option available based on the dietary requirements you have specified. All meal requests are subject to airline approval and are not guaranteed, therefore we recommend preparing for your flight by bringing appropriate food for yourself, as required.

Passport Validity:
Customers must provide valid passport details either at the time of purchase or no later than 90 days before the departure date. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of the booking. Customers will be responsible for any costs and fees incurred in this instance.

Fitness Level Required:
Adventure (and spontaneity) create some of the best travel memories. Bear in mind, your home schedules and timings might not be adhered to on tour - it's all part of the fun!

A relaxed level of fitness will be required.
Expect a comfortable pace of touring with a focus on leisure time and gentle activity. This may include city tours, the ability to walk up and down small flights of stairs and gentle slopes. You will be responsible for your own luggage and have the ability to board all modes of transport without assistance. Please note: Some areas may be inaccessible to wheelchairs or mobility scooters, with personal walking sticks and other aids required should they be needed. Although some assistance may be available, every traveller should be self-reliant during all aspects of their travel.

Please note: It is expected that every traveller must be self-reliant and able to undertake all aspects of their own travel. Please speak to your booking agent about your personal circumstances and any assistance requirements to ensure this tour is right for you.
Please note: If you have any concerns, please consult your healthcare provider prior to purchase/travel.

Yellow Fever:
A valid international certificate of vaccination against Yellow Fever is required in many countries. You may need to present this on arrival at the airport or border crossing. Some countries will refuse entry if you are unable to present your certificate. It's also common for your home country to request a Yellow Fever certificate upon arrival.
You must check with your doctor well before leaving home about the Yellow Fever requirements for the countries you'll be visiting.

Sightseeing:
Please note: If entry to a site is affected by changes in operating hours or public holiday closures, your itinerary, where possible, may be adjusted, or a similar activity will be offered in its place (subject to availability).

Wildlife sighting:
TripADeal cannot guarantee animal sightings on tour. Wildlife are unpredictable and factors such as weather conditions, predatory fear and animal movements can impact sightings.

Shopping:
Shopping overseas can be a daunting and confusing experience, especially when there is a language barrier. Please be very cautious when foreign currencies and prices are involved. If paying by credit card, please pay close attention to the amount you are being charged and keep all your receipts.
Do not make any purchases you are not comfortable with or feel pressured into. If you are uncertain or need assistance with the language barrier, please seek assistance from your Tour Guide/Leader.
Please refer to our Terms and Conditions regarding shopping for further information.

Visas

Japan
Australian passport holders are visa-exempt for a stay of up to 90 days when travelling as a tourist.

South Korea
Australian passport holders can visit South Korea as tourists for stays of up to 90 days without applying for a K-ETA (or visa waiver) until 31 December 2026. Previously approved K-ETA applications will remain valid up to the granted expiry date. Australian passport holders travelling from 1 January 2027 may be required to apply for a K-ETA. Visit the official K-ETA website for more information.

Important:
• Please start arranging your visa three weeks before departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.
• Visa rules are subject to change. Please check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination/s you are visiting once you receive your travel documentation to ensure you have the most up to date information.
• It is your responsibility to be travel-ready and ensure that you are aware and comply with any destination or travel requirements, including the validity of all required travel documents.
• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.
• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.

Travel insurance

Embarking on your next trip is exciting, and while you hope the unexpected does not happen, it is best to be prepared. We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance when making your booking. Whether it’s a potential medical emergency, a flight cancellation, a delayed suitcase, or an unforeseen event, it's important to ensure you're adequately protected.
