Almaty is a sunny, cozy city surrounded by greenery with wide streets, beautiful buildings, numerous parks, squares and fountains. It is no coincidence that the beautiful city at the foot of the emerald ridges of the Tien Shan is called the “garden city”.

Tall modern buildings, historical buildings, ancient mosques are hiding here, and modern shopping centres mix with traditional oriental bazaars and markets. Day 12 Dushanbe Sightseeing

In the Tajik language, the name of Dushanbe is translated as “Monday”. It was so named as it originally had a popular market on Mondays. Areas around Dushanbe were known as a centre of cotton and silk production during the Soviet period. Though the name of the city is rather new, its historical past dates as far back as three thousand years. Archaeologists have uncovered the remains of Greek-Bactrian settlements, a settlement from the Kushan period, a Shishi Khon village and other medieval settlements.

Today, we'll explore the best of Dushanbe, a city where ancient history and modern life beautifully intersect. Our tour begins at the magnificent Museum of Antiquities, a true cultural treasure. Here, you'll come face-to-face with the crown jewel of the collection: a spectacular 14-meter-long reclining Buddha, the largest in Central Asia and a UNESCO-protected masterpiece.

From there, we'll delve into the city's diverse spiritual landscape, visiting the impressive main mosque, the historic old synagogue, and the serene Russian Orthodox Church. We'll then enjoy a relaxing stroll through Rudaki Park, the lush green heart of the city, before immersing ourselves in the vibrant atmosphere of the Shah-Mansur Bazaar, a feast for the senses with its colourful stalls and bustling energy.

Our day concludes with a short trip outside the city to the legendary Hisor Fortress. Dating back to the 18th century, this former palace of the Emirate of Bukhara offers a fascinating glimpse into the region's royal past and provides a perfect end to a day of exploration.

On arrival in Penjikent, visit the excavation site of Old- Penjikent - the 5th century "Pompeii" of Central Asia with its former palaces and necropolises, then visit the Rudaki Museum, as well as the old town of Penjikent.

Afterwards cross the Uzbek/Tajik border and finish the day in Samarkand. The historic town of Samarkand is a crossroad and a melting pot of world's cultures. Founded in the 7th century B.C. as ancient Afrosiab, Samarkand received its most significant development in the Timurid’s period from the 14th to the 15th centuries.

area centuries ago. A valuable heritage of knowledge was left here by internationally famous scholars such as Beruni, Agakhi and Nadjmiddin. One can stroll through the narrow streets of Khiva, peeking into the small courtyards through
the wooden carved doors. The life inside the gardens assures the visitor that it is not just a museum, but also a living city.

Day 19 Khiva - Konya-Urgench - Darvaza Gas Crater, Turkmenistan

In the morning we enter the last Stan of our trip - Turkmenistan.

After crossing the border between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, our journey continues to Konya-Urgench – capital of the powerful Khorezmia which ruled here until Mongol’s invasion.

This ancient town contains ruins of the capital of Khorezm, a part of the Achaemenid Empire. Its inhabitants deserted the town 350 years ago in order to develop a new settlement, and Kunya-Urgench has remained undisturbed. In 2005, the ruins of Old Urgench have been inscribed in the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites. It is one of the most important archaeological sites in Turkmenistan, lying within a vast zone of protected landscapes and containing a large number of well- preserved monuments, dating from the 11th to the 16th centuries. It comprises mosques, gates of caravanserai, fortresses, mausoleums and minarets, and the influence of their architectural style and craftsmanship reached Iran, Afghanistan and the later architecture of the Mogul Empire of 16th-century in India. Here you will visit Kutlug Temir minaret, Tubarek Khanum, Sultan Tekesh and the Fahriddin Mausoleums, burial mosque of 12th century and 15th century Gutluk Temir Minaret.

Following our stop, we'll continue to the Darvaza gas crater, also known as the "Door to Hell," which is a spectacular sight in the Karakum Desert. In 1971, geologists discovered a cavern filled with natural gas. To prevent the release of toxic methane, they ignited the gas, and it has been burning ever since. This fiery pit, measuring 50 to 100 meters wide, is a breathtaking spectacle visible from a distance. If the sight doesn't guide you, the distinct sulfur smell will. We'll conclude the evening with a delicious barbecue dinner at your Yurt Camp located right by the crater so you may marvel at this natural wonder through into the night.

Please note:
- Depending on how long border crossing formalities take, and the daylight hours available, Konya-Urgench may be skipped to ensure you arrive in Darvaza gas crater safely before nightfall.
- As yurt accommodation is on a shared basis (4-5 people per Yurt) private rooms are not provided. This applies to both twin share and solo travellers.
- All yurts have been designed in the traditional nomadic way with mattresses on wool carpeted floors (there are no bed frames).
- Toilet and shower facilities are outside of the yurts

Later, we'll travel to a private farm outside of the city to meet the legendary Akhal-Teke horses, Turkmenistan’s proud national symbol. In Dushanbe, the climate is continental as well; winters are pretty cold, though not freezing, with an average in January of 3°C, while summers are hot and sunny: highs in July and August are around 35°C, but with peaks of 40°C. In winter, the temperature often drops below freezing at night, but it remains quite mild during the day; however, even here, cold waves may occur, with lows around -10°C, though less intense than in the rest of the country, because the mountains in the north partly protect the city. It receives about 600mm of rain or snow per year, most of which between November and May, with a maximum in March and April, of about 110mm per month, distributed in about 10 days per month, and a summer minimum (even here, from July to September it virtually never rains).

Tashkent, Uzbekistan
Tashkent features a Mediterranean climate with strong continental climate influences. As a result, Tashkent experiences cold and often snowy winters not typically associated with most Mediterranean climates and long, hot and dry summers. The city experiences two peaks of precipitation in the early winter and spring. The slightly unusual precipitation pattern is partially due to its 500m altitude. Summers are long in Tashkent, usually lasting from May to September. Tashkent can be extremely hot during July and August. The city also sees very little precipitation during the summer, particularly from June through September.

We always suggest referring to an online source for the most up-to-date weather information for your destination/s.

FLIGHTS
Seat Selection & Frequent Flyer Points:
We do not arrange seat selection. It is essential to highlight that some airlines do not allow pre-selected seats. We strongly suggest you contact the airline directly with seating allocation requirements and/or arrive at the airport earlier to arrange your seating. While we do not add frequent flyer member details to bookings, you can do this directly with the airline once you have your flight information.

Dietary Requests
Meal options and availability differ between airlines and routes therefore not all dietary requests can be accommodated. If your flight includes meals we will select the most suitable option available based on the dietary requirements you have specified. All meal requests are subject to airline approval and are not guaranteed, therefore we recommend preparing for your flight by bringing appropriate food for yourself, as required.

Passport Validity:
Customers must provide valid passport details either at the time of purchase or no later than 90 days before the departure date. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of the booking. Customers will be responsible for any costs and fees incurred in this instance.

For meals not included, the tour leader (when available) will offer assistance with reservations, suggestions and directions to local restaurants. It is your responsibility to notify us of any dietary requests/requirements.

Fitness Level Required
Adventure (and spontaneity) create some of the best travel memories. Bear in mind, your home schedules and timings might not be adhered to on tour - it's all part of the fun!

A moderate level of fitness will be required. Expect a moderate pace of touring with a focus on guided tours that may include full days with extended activity, guided city tours or nature walks. You will require a general level of fitness for unassisted navigation of stairs and inclines, longer distances with possible periods of standing when visiting sites, walking on sloping, uneven ground or elevations. You will be responsible for your own luggage and have the ability to board all modes of transport without assistance.

Please note:
• Many areas may be inaccessible to wheelchairs or mobility scooters, where the unassisted use of personal walking sticks and other aids may be required. Although some assistance may be available, every traveller should be self-reliant during all aspects of their travel.
• It is expected that every traveller must be self-reliant and able to undertake all aspects of their own travel. Please speak to your booking agent about your personal circumstances and any assistance requirements to ensure this tour is right for you.
• If you have any concerns, please consult your healthcare provider prior to purchase/travel.

Yellow Fever:
A valid international certificate of vaccination against Yellow Fever is required in many countries. You may need to present this on arrival at the airport or border crossing. Some countries will refuse entry if you are unable to present your certificate. It's also common for your home country to request a Yellow Fever certificate upon arrival.
You must check with your doctor well before leaving home about the Yellow Fever requirements for the countries you'll be visiting.

Sightseeing:
Please note: If entry to a site is affected by changes in operating hours or public holiday closures, your itinerary, where possible, may be adjusted, or a similar activity will be offered in its place (subject to availability).

Shopping:
Shopping overseas can be a daunting and confusing experience, especially when there is a language barrier. Please be very cautious when foreign currencies and prices are involved. If paying by credit card, please pay close attention to the amount you are being charged and keep all your receipts.
Do not make any purchases you are not comfortable with or feel pressured into. If you are uncertain or need assistance with the language barrier, please seek assistance from your Tour Guide/Leader.
Please refer to our Terms and Conditions regarding shopping for further information.

Turkmenistan (Extension Package Only)
Gaining entry to Turkmenistan is a multi-step process that begins with securing a Letter of Invitation (LOI). This document is a mandatory prerequisite for your tourist visa. Once you have received your LOI, you will then be required to take this with you on tour and present the LOI at the Uzbek/Turkmen border along with a $110 USD per person visa fee (subject to change). You will then be issued your visa and able to enter Turkmenistan.

Closer to your departure date, our team will be in touch to ask the below questions to facilitate your LOI and request supporting documents. Please note that providing incomplete or inaccurate information may cause significant delays in processing your LOI and all information must be received no later than 60 days prior to your departure date.

  • Last name(s) per your passport
  • First and middle name(s) per your passport
  • Any other name(s) used before (e.g. before marriage)

2) A separate, high-quality digital passport-sized photograph. This must be an actual passport-style photo and not a selfie. Specific requirements for the photo are detailed below.
A good quality colour print, taken within the last six months.

Our role is to facilitate the LOI process on your behalf. All other entry requirements, including passport validity and compliance with customs and immigration laws, are your sole responsibility. Your passport must be valid for at least six (6) months beyond your planned departure date from Turkmenistan. We strongly recommend you research any additional visa obligations that may be specific to your nationality.

Failure to provide all required information in the correct format and by the specified deadline may result in significant processing delays for your LOI and travel documents.

Please be aware that LOI processing times can be unpredictable and are beyond our direct control, as they are issued by local authorities.

Visa policies and entry regulations are subject to change without notice. It remains your responsibility to monitor the latest official information from the government of Turkmenistan and to check our visa information page for any updates.

By proceeding with your booking, you confirm your understanding of these visa and entry requirements and your commitment to complying with them.

Important:
• Please start arranging your visa three weeks before departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.
• Visa rules are subject to change. Please check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination/s you are visiting once you receive your travel documentation to ensure you have the most up to date information.
• It is your responsibility to be travel-ready and ensure that you are aware and comply with any destination or travel requirements, including the validity of all required travel documents.
• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.
• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.

Whether it’s a potential medical emergency, a flight cancellation, a delayed suitcase, or an unforeseen event, it's important to ensure you're adequately protected.
