Other important information

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Hong Kong
Hong Kong has a humid subtropical climate, characterised by four distinct seasons. In January, the city experiences its winter, which is typically the coolest, driest, and least humid time of the year. During this month, mild daytime temperatures usually average around 18°C to 19°C, dropping to around 14°C to 15°C at night, with occasional cold fronts bringing cool northerly breezes. Rain and humidity are at their lowest annual levels, making for clear to overcast days that are dry and comfortable for outdoor sightseeing. Typhoons are not a concern during this time, as the storm season runs strictly from May to November.

Japan
In January, Japan experiences cold mid-winter weather characterised by crisp, dry, and predominantly sunny days along the Pacific Coast and major ports like Tokyo, Yokohama, Kobe and Nagasaki. High temperatures along these regions typically range between 8°C and 12°C during the day, with crisp night-time lows averaging around 1°C to 6°C. Precipitation is at its lowest annual levels across the main cities, offering bright, clear skies ideal for exploring, provided you dress warmly in thermal layers and heavy winter coats for the chilly morning and evening air.

South Korea
January is the coldest and driest month of the year in South Korea, bringing brisk, frosty weather driven by cold continental air masses. In coastal cities like Busan, the climate is slightly buffered by the sea compared to the freezing interior, with daytime highs reaching around 6°C to 8°C and night-time lows dropping to -1°C to 0°C. Precipitation is minimal, leading to clear, blue skies and sunny conditions, though biting coastal winds make heavy down jackets, thermal layers, hats, and scarves essential.
