Gateway to the English Channel and one of Britain's most historically significant port towns, Dover has stood at the crossroads of European history for millennia.

The iconic White Cliffs, formed from chalk laid down over 70 million years ago, define the coastline and have served as a landmark for sailors and travellers across the centuries.

Dover Castle, perched high above the town, dates back over two thousand years - from Iron Age earthworks to Cold War tunnels - and stands as one of the most historically layered sites on the English coast. The town itself retains the character of a working port, with the bustle of the harbour framing your departure toward the Norwegian coast.

Sea Sand is only one of the calm, beautiful hideaways surrounding this charming town of white-painted buildings at the mouth of the river Mandalselva. The snaking waterway is filled with sailboats while gentle hills rise as a backdrop. Mandal also has the largest wooden church in Norway, seating 1,800 people.

Day 8 Bergen, Norway

A magnificent gateway to the fjords, Bergen is a medieval port surrounded by mountains.

From the beauty of Bryggen, the seafront maze of ancient timber buildings, to the modern Floibanen Funicular that soars up Floyen peak, no one would want to miss this city.

Day 12 Leknes, Lofoten - Cruising Trollfjorden, Norway

In the Lofoten Islands, Leknes, the main town on Vestvagoya Island above the Arctic Circle, is nestled on the bay-like Buksnesfjorden. The surreal landscape features red-painted houses against craggy, mountainous isles.

In summer, the white sand beaches resemble the South Seas, while the region experiences almost two months of the midnight sun, Trollfjorden is unbelievable. A 100 metre-wide entrance to a narrow fjord with near-vertical mountainous sides up to 1,100 metres, the passage slices through Austvagoya, on the edge of the Lofoten Islands.

As the ship enters the fjord, the silence is broken only by the gentle sound of the ship's engines and the occasional cry of a white-tailed eagle soaring overhead. At the end of the fjord, the ship slowly spins, offering a final captivating view.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic's SH Diana

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 13 Harstad, Norway

Harstad is the largest town in the Troms region of northern Norway and serves as a practical and cultural hub for the surrounding archipelago.

Unlike many Norwegian towns, Harstad was spared significant destruction during World War II, leaving its early 20th-century architecture largely intact — a rarity in the north.

The town sits at the northern tip of Hinnoya, the largest island in Norway, surrounded by a rugged landscape of mountains, fjords and open sea.

The medieval Trondenes Church, dating from the 13th century and one of the northernmost medieval stone churches in the world, stands just outside the town and remains in active use to this day.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic's SH Diana

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 14 Bear Island, Soerhamna, Svalbard & Jan Mayen

The greatest bird cliff in the Barents Sea is on Bear Island, or Bjornoya, Svalbard’s southernmost island. Atlantic puffins, northern gannets, glaucous gulls, great skuas, black-legged kittiwakes, little auks, common guillemots and Brunnich's guillemots nest on the steep cliffs near Kapp Kolthoff, south of Sorhamna. The ocean has sculpted sea stack rock columns, sea caves and tunnels, with a notable tunnel at Perleporten.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic's SH Diana

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 15 Gashamna - Burgerbukta, Svalbard

Gashamna is a bay located on the southern coast of Hornsund in southern Spitsbergen, Svalbard. It holds historical significance as a site used by whalers in the 17th century, with remnants such as blubber ovens and graves still visible.

Surrounded by striking mountain scenery, Gashamna is also a valuable location for geological studies and offers insight into Svalbard’s early human activity.

Burgerbukta is a scenic fjord branching off from Hornsund, named after the German geographer Georg Burger. Known for its stunning glaciers and dramatic peaks, it provides a breathtaking Arctic landscape. The fjord is frequently visited by expedition cruises for its calving glaciers, rich birdlife and opportunities to observe seals and polar bears in their natural habitat.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic's SH Diana

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 16 Calypsobyen, Recherchefjorden - Vaersolbukta, Svalbard

Calypsobyen is an abandoned coal-mining settlement on the shores of Recherchefjorden, a small fjord in the Bellsund region of Spitsbergen, Svalbard.

Established by the Northern Exploration Company in 1918–1919, Calypsobyen was intended to support coal extraction, but the deposits proved too limited and the harsh coastal conditions made shipping difficult. The settlement was abandoned by 1920, leaving behind a collection of historic buildings and mining relics that today serve as important cultural heritage sites and reminders of Svalbard’s early industrial history.

Varsolbukta is a scenic bay in the Bellsund region of Spitsbergen, Svalbard, known for its large colonies of little auks (dovekies), rich moss tundra and abundant wildlife, including Svalbard reindeer.

The bay’s fertile vegetation is sustained by nutrients from hundreds of thousands of nesting seabirds. Varsolbukta also contains historic remains from early 20th-century exploration and mining activities associated with the Northern Exploration Company, making it both an important natural and cultural heritage site in Svalbard.

Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Weather
We always suggest referring to an online source for the most up-to-date weather information for your destination/s.

London
In June, London enjoys mild, pleasant early summer weather. Average daytime temperatures typically range from 12C to 21°C, with some warmer days reaching up to 26°C, especially toward the end of the month. Mornings and evenings can still be a bit cool, so light layers are recommended. Rain is always a possibility in London, with occasional showers scattered throughout the month, but there are also longer periods of sunshine and blooming parks, making it a lovely time to explore the city.

Norwegian Fjords
During June, the weather is generally mild, with long daylight hours and significant regional variations. Famous for its long days of day light hours lasting around 18 - 19 hours. Daytime temperatures typically range from 9 - 18 degrees with the west coast experiencing more rainfall than the east. Relatively warm conditions in the sunshine with waterfalls at peak flow from snowmelt and windier conditions through the fjords.

Copenhagen
Copenhagen in June and July offers pleasant summer weather, making it an ideal time to visit. In June, average daytime high temperatures typically reach around 19-20°C (66-68°F), while nights are cooler, dropping to about 11-13°C (52-55°F). It's one of the sunniest months with ample daylight hours (around 17-18 hours), and while there's a moderate chance of rain, showers are usually brief. The city's beaches and harbour baths become popular as the sea temperature begins to warm up. Moving into July, Copenhagen experiences its warmest period, with average daytime highs often reaching 20-21°C (68-70°F), and comfortable evening lows around 13-16°C (55-61°F). July continues to offer long daylight hours and plenty of sunshine, though it can be slightly wetter than June with a higher chance of scattered showers. Both months are generally considered comfortable and mild, perfect for exploring the city's outdoor attractions and enjoying the vibrant summer atmosphere.

Svalbard
In June and July, Svalbard experiences its brief but intense 'polar summer', characterised by 24-hour daylight due to the midnight sun and the mildest temperatures of the year. In June, average daily high temperatures typically hover around 3°C to 5°C, with lows dipping to about -1°C to 1°C. While snow melting begins, it can still feel quite chilly and some areas may retain snow cover. Moving into July, it's the warmest month, with average daily highs reaching approximately 6°C to 8°C, and lows around 2°C to 4°C. Days above 10°C are rare, but the continuous daylight and relatively "warm" conditions compared to the rest of the year make it the prime time for wildlife viewing, hiking on exposed tundra and exploring by boat as sea ice recedes. Despite being summer, visitors should always be prepared for cold, windy, and potentially damp conditions, with layering essential.

Seat Selection & Frequent Flyer Points:
We do not arrange seat selection. It is essential to highlight that some airlines do not allow pre-selected seats. We strongly suggest you contact the airline directly with seating allocation requirements and/or arrive at the airport earlier to arrange your seating. While we do not add frequent flyer member details to bookings, you can do this directly with the airline once you have your flight information.

Fitness Level Required:
Adventure (and spontaneity) create some of the best travel memories. Bear in mind, your home schedules and timings might not be adhered to on tour - it's all part of the fun!

A moderate level of fitness will be required.
Expect a moderate pace of touring with a focus on guided tours that may include full days with extended activity, guided city tours or nature walks. You will require a general level of fitness for unassisted navigation of stairs and inclines, longer distances with possible periods of standing when visiting sites, walking on sloping, uneven ground or elevations. You will be responsible for your own luggage and have the ability to board all modes of transport without assistance. Please note: Many areas may be inaccessible to wheelchairs or mobility scooters, where the unassisted use of personal walking sticks and other aids may be required. Although some assistance may be available, every traveller should be self-reliant during all aspects of their travel.

Please note: It is expected that every traveller must be self-reliant and able to undertake all aspects of their own travel. Please speak to your booking agent about your personal circumstances and any assistance requirements to ensure this tour is right for you.
Please note: If you have any concerns, please consult your healthcare provider prior to purchase/travel.

Yellow Fever:
A valid international certificate of vaccination against Yellow Fever is required in many countries. You may need to present this on arrival at the airport or border crossing. Some countries will refuse entry if you are unable to present your certificate. It's also common for your home country to request a Yellow Fever certificate upon arrival.
You must check with your doctor well before leaving home about the Yellow Fever requirements for the countries you'll be visiting.

Sightseeing:
Please note: If entry to a site is affected by changes in operating hours or public holiday closures, your itinerary, where possible, may be adjusted, or a similar activity will be offered in its place (subject to availability).

Shopping:
Shopping overseas can be a daunting and confusing experience, especially when there is a language barrier. Please be very cautious when foreign currencies and prices are involved. If paying by credit card, please pay close attention to the amount you are being charged and keep all your receipts.
Do not make any purchases you are not comfortable with or feel pressured into. If you are uncertain or need assistance with the language barrier, please seek assistance from your Tour Guide/Leader.
Please refer to our Terms and Conditions regarding shopping for further information.

Visas

United Kingdom
The UK government announced the next phase of the rollout of electronic travel authorizations (ETAs). As of 8th January 2025, all Australia and New Zealand passport holders will require an ETA to enter the UK. An ETA gives visitors permission to travel to the UK. Visitors who do not currently need a visa may need to apply an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) to travel to the UK, please refer to the UK Government website for further information.

Norway
Australian passport holders do not require a visa to travel to Norway for a stay of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

Denmark
Australian passport holders do not require a visa to travel to Norway for a stay of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
European Travel Information & Authorisation System (ETIAS)

As an extension of the EES implementation introduced from 2025, ETIAS travel authorisation is a mandatory entry requirement for visa-exempt nationals travelling to any of these 30 European countries, including Australian and New Zealand citizens, that will be introduced in 2026. We advise you to monitor smartraveller.gov.au closer to your departure to ensure you are up to date on the requirements at the time of entry.

Important:
• Please start arranging your visa three weeks before departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.
• Visa rules are subject to change. Please check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination/s you are visiting once you receive your travel documentation to ensure you have the most up to date information.
• It is your responsibility to be travel-ready and ensure that you are aware and comply with any destination or travel requirements, including the validity of all required travel documents.
• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.
• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.

Travel insurance

Embarking on your next trip is exciting, and while you hope the unexpected does not happen, it is best to be prepared. We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance when making your booking. Whether it’s a potential medical emergency, a flight cancellation, a delayed suitcase, or an unforeseen event, it's important to ensure you're adequately protected.
