Day 1 Arrive Airlie Beach, Queensland

Today, make your own way to Airlie Beach, Queensland.

Upon arrival, make your own way to Coral Sea Marina Resort (25 Ocean View Avenue, Airlie Beach) where you will spend the next 2 nights. Check-in is available from 14:00 but if you're arriving earlier in Airlie, complimentary luggage storage is available at the property.

Nestled on the waterfront of Airlie Beach, Coral Sea Marina Resort offers a blend of tropical charm and modern comfort. With stunning views from the oceanfront pool and direct access to the Coral Sea Marina, it’s the perfect base for exploring the Whitsundays.

Day 2 Airlie Beach - Day at Leisure

The resort township of Airlie Beach is not only home to the world-famous Whitsunday Islands but is well worth a visit itself. The coastal town offers a laid-back atmosphere with a wide range of cafes, al fresco restaurants, bars, a central lagoon, and quaint shops.

Today, you’ll have the day at leisure to explore this tropical paradise.

Day 3 Reefsleep Experience

This morning, you will need to check out of your accommodation with a small overnight bag packed for your time on Reefsleep. If you have any larger luggage items, you can store them at the hotel. You'll then be picked up and transferred to the marina where you will embark on this unique adventure. Pick-up time will be at approximately 07:10. Please ensure you have plenty of time to check out of your room and wait in the foyer 10 minutes early.

The Reefsleep is an intimate, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sleep under the stars on the Great Barrier Reef. The exclusive Reefworld at Hardy Reef is a permanently moored pontoon that's located 72 kilometres from shore on the outer Great Barrier Reef. Your journey begins with a cruise to the outer reef through the gorgeous Whitsunday Islands. Make sure to keep an eye out for migrating Humpback Whales between July and September.

Out on the reef you can go swimming and snorkelling, ride in a semi-submarine and visit the underwater observatory before enjoying a generous buffet lunch. After the day-trippers return to shore, the pontoon and the reef are exclusively yours so you'll enjoy a sunset drink before your evening meal, featuring fresh and delicious local produce, is served on deck. Afterwards, you'll head for the pontoon’s top level and slip into your cosy double reef bed where it's just you, the ocean and a galaxy of stars.

• In your small overnight bag it's recommended to pack toiletries, a change of clothes, swimwear, protective clothing, a hat and reef safe sunscreen, your camera, a light jacket or sweater for cool or windy days, cash or a credit card for drinks and optional activities (guided snorkelling safari and scuba diving are an additional cost, check the Important Information section for pricing).
• Your Reefsleep experience includes return hotel transfers, a scenic return cruise through the Whitsundays to the outer reef, snorkelling gear with wetsuits and stinger suits, access to the underwater observatory, a semi-submarine guided tour, two morning and afternoon teas, two lunches, dinner, breakfast and all beverages including beer and wine (cocktails and spirits at an additional cost).

Day 4 ReefWorld Experience

Enjoy the peaceful and unhurried dawn on the reef before taking time to snorkel after breakfast, or return to the underwater observatory to watch the reef come to life.

After lunch, you will return to the mainland around 18:00 and then be transferred back to your hotel.

Day 5 Whitehaven Beach & Camira Snorkelling Tour

Harness the wind and sail the azure waters of the Whitsundays onboard the impressive Camira, a speedy 85-foot ocean-going catamaran.

Departing from Airlie Beach, Camira cruises to Whitsunday Island, passing Daydream, Hamilton and Hook Islands en route. On Whitsunday Island’s east coast, Camira moors at the northern end of Whitehaven Beach, a 7-kilometre arc of dazzling white sand that's regularly voted Australia’s best beach.

On a guided hike to Hill Inlet lookout, you'll follow a path walked by the Whitsundays’ traditional owners, the Ngaro people. Back on the beach, you can swim and stroll along the shore before indulging in an all-inclusive BBQ lunch cooked and served onboard. After lunch, you will head to one of the Whitsundays fringing reefs for some snorkelling before sailing back to shore, upon arrival you will be transferred back to your hotel for an evening at leisure.

General information

This is a self-guided itinerary, as such there will be no tour guide present throughout your stay. For any on-tour assistance, please refer to the contact information included in your travel documents that are sent 4-6 weeks before your travel date. Please contact Cruise Whitsundays no later than 3 days prior to travel to confirm final details, including menu selections for the overnight ReefWorld experience.

DIVE AT THE WORLD'S MOST FAMOUS REEF
• Certified Dive: $135 per person and $85 per person for any additional dives. 
As a certified diver, we don’t need to convince you that diving at the Great Barrier Reef is going to be pretty special. Experienced divers can enjoy spectacular dives at specially selected sites with a variety of coral formations that are teeming with marine life. All dives are escorted by the experienced crew, ensuring an unforgettable experience.

INTRODUCTORY DIVE

There is no better place to experience the magic of your first scuba dive than at the outer Great Barrier Reef. The fully certified PADI/SSI instructors will step you through all the training and escort you on your first amazing adventure.

Climate & average temperatures

The Whitsunday Seasons are defined as wet, windy and dry. The 'wet' season is from January to March, the most blustery months are March to May, and the driest months are August to October. The average daytime temperature dips to 23°C degrees in July and 24°C in June. However, other months exceed 25°C degrees. The average low in June and July overnight is 12°C degrees and it is advised to bring warmer clothes for the evening.

Fitness Level Required:
Adventure (and spontaneity) create some of the best travel memories. Bear in mind, your home schedules and timings might not be adhered to on tour - it's all part of the fun!

A moderate level of fitness will be required. Expect a moderate pace, including full days with extended activity or nature walks. You will require a general level of fitness for unassisted navigation of stairs and inclines, longer distances with possible periods of standing when visiting sites, walking on sloping, uneven ground or elevations. You will be responsible for your own luggage and have the ability to board all modes of transport without assistance.

Sightseeing:
Please note: If entry to a site is affected by changes in operating hours or public holiday closures, your itinerary, where possible, may be adjusted, or a similar activity will be offered in its place (subject to availability).

Wildlife sighting:

This may be due to non-refundable airline tickets, cancellation penalties with cruise cabins or unrecoverable payments with our land/accommodation partners. If refunds are not available from Suppliers, we will endeavour to obtain a travel credit on the best terms available and communicate these outcomes to you. In the event we are unable to obtain a refund or travel service credit, or part thereof, this cost is passed on to the customer as a Supplier Fee.
