Once we arrive, we’ll visit Captain Cook's Landing, where the Endeavour sought refuge to repair the damage sustained when the ship had grounded on an uncharted reef. Day 2 Cooktown - Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park - Musgrave

Musgrave was first built as an overland telegraph station in 1887, along with Palmerville, Fairview, Coen, Mein, Moreton, McDonnell and Paterson. Known as a repeater station, it had great banks of batteries and a generator to boost the power in the telegraph line. It was named after Sir Anthony Musgrave (1828 – 1888) who was Governor of Queensland from 1883 to 1888.

Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Cape York
The Cape York region has a tropical climate with high to very high temperatures experienced throughout the year. The average annual temperature is 26°C. For July to August, the average is 23°C. Annual and seasonal average rainfall are variable, affected by local factors such as topography and vegetation, and broader scale weather patterns such as the El Niño–Southern Oscillation. Their dry season is between May and October, which is generally the best time to enjoy the Cape York Peninsula.

The annual average rainfall is 1305mm. The rainfall is highly seasonal, with most rain falling during the wet season (October–March) either as heavy thunderstorms, monsoonal lows or tropical cyclones. The region’s annual average potential evaporation is almost 50% greater than the annual average rainfall, which contributes to the depletion of soil moisture.
