Beerenberg, the snow-covered stratovolcano, dominates the ice cap and glaciers at the northeast end of Jan Mayen Island. Halfway between Svalbard and Iceland, this Norwegian island's only residents are the Norwegian Armed Forces or meteorological station staff. Purple saxifrage and endemic dandelions grow next to the black sands while northern fulmars, black guillemots and little auks make Jan Mayen an important birding area.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic SH Diana

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 9 Scoresbysund, Greenland

As the world’s largest fjord system, Scoresbysund spans over 350 kilometres into Greenland’s heart. This vast network of fjords, glaciers and icebergs is framed by towering basalt mountains which shield Greenland’s wildlife from Arctic winds. Muskoxen, Arctic foxes and mountain hares often roam the land while seals and whales are common sightings in the waters. Look up to chance upon little auks, puffins, fulmars, snowy owls, gyrfalcons and great black-backed gulls overhead.

Day 11 Ittoqqortoormiit, Greenland

In the southeastern part of Greenland lies the city of Ittoqqortoormiut, home to a population of just 500 people. Ittoqqortoormiut was founded in 1925 by the Danish explorer Einar Mikkelsen and a group of about 80 Inuit, covering a vast hunting ground. There is still hunting and sea fishing as the territory is home to white foxes, bears and seal colonies.

Generally, a thick layer of sea ice prevents ships from approaching the city's port for nine months of the year.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic SH Diana

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 12 Cruising

Overnight: Swan Hellenic SH Diana

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 13 Isafjordur - Vigur Island, Iceland

Surrounded by fjords in the Westfjords region, Ísafjörður is a bustling fishing town and cultural center in northwest Iceland. The Heritage Museum, also known as the Maritime Museum, houses some of the country's oldest buildings and explores the region's fishing heritage through compelling exhibits. Nearby, Osvor is a replica of a 19th-century Icelandic fishing station.

A jewel of the Westfjords, Vigur is the fjord's second-largest island and a thriving seabird sanctuary. Flocks of arctic terns, puffins, guillemots and eider ducks nest atop rocky cliffs. As one of only two inhabited islands, Vigur supports a family farm continuing the centuries-old eiderdown harvest across 3,500 nests. This remote pillar also houses Iceland's sole windmill, its tiniest post office and a 200-year-old, still-seaworthy rowing boat.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic SH Diana

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 14 Dynjani Waterfall, Iceland

Considered one of Iceland’s most impressive falls, the thunderous Dynjandi waterfall in the Westfjords region gives the impression of a bridal veil as it spreads down ever-growing cascades. The walk takes 15 minutes passing five smaller waterfalls.

Afterwards, you could visit the city’s other renowned building, Harpa Concert Hall, located at the heart of Reykjavík's regenerated harbour which is also home to the Maritime Museum. Speaking of cultural spaces, make time to tour the National Museum to learn the story of Iceland from past to present (entrance fees apply). The Reykjavík Art Museum houses an impressive contemporary collection including eye-catching pieces by Erró.

Want more? Just 50 kilometres outside the city lies Thingvellir National Park, the site of Iceland’s original Viking parliament.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic SH Vega

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 5 Skjoldungen, Greenland

On the craggy east coast of Greenland, the scenic U-shaped Skjoldungen Fjord is surrounded by lofty snow-capped mountains, dwarf birch, Arctic wildflowers and willow forests. High rock walls, serpentine rivers and large crevasses of ice pillars, known as seracs, give way to carved icebergs in the fjord that gleam from a white to blue spectrum. You might also have the opportunity to see whales.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic SH Vega

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 6 Cruising, Prins Christian Sun - Aappilattoq, Greenland

The remote and beautiful Prins Christian Sund fjord carves a dramatic path between magnificent granite cliffs and glaciers. This offers a stunning panorama of icebergs, rugged peaks and crystal-clear waters. Stretching 100 kilometres at the southernmost tip of Greenland, this long and winding passage separates the mainland from Sammisoq and the Cape Farewell Archipelago. This creates a breathtaking waterway that captivates adventurers and nature lovers alike.

Colourful Nordic houses stand against dramatic mountain ridges encircling Aappilattoq, a remote Inuit village in Greenland’s Prins Christian Sund. Accessible only by boat or helicopter, Aappilattoq is home to around 100 rugged individuals who make a living through fishing and hunting. Often called the southernmost inhabited area in Greenland, Aappilattoq is in fact at the midpoint of the east and west coasts.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic SH Vega

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 7 Kangilinnguit - Ivittuut, Greenland

Kangilinnguit, formerly Grønnedal, is a historic spot in southwest Greenland and an area of exceptional natural beauty. Once a key U.S. WWII naval base, it lies near Ivigtut and the cryolite mine in scenic Arsuk Fjord. Ships navigate a narrow channel past the Kajartalik lighthouse, Arsuk village and Kungnat Bay, where dramatic landscapes unfold. This includes the towering 4,600-foot Mt Kungnait and the breathtaking Arsuk Glacier at the fjord's head.

The deserted mining town of Ivittuut (formerly Ivigtut) was once vital for WWII aircraft production with the world's largest reserve of cryolite, a mineral used in aluminium production. Abandoned houses, the enormous mine pit and an above-ground cemetery reveal the history of this settlement. Scattered cryolite chunks on the rocky shore mix with relics like old engines from when Inuit used cryolite for snuff. Now only muskoxen roam this eerie place.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic SH Vega

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 8 Nigerdlikasik Fjord & Glacier, Greenland

Nigerdlikasik, at the end of Kvanefjord, is a remote and relatively untouched wilderness offering solitude and stunning views of steep cliffs, mountains and the Nigerdlikasik Brae glacier ice field. The glacial ice creates dramatic scenery with ice formations, meltwater streams, steep cliffs and valleys. Carved by ancient ice, the fjord's volcanic geology and rare-earth mineral deposits make it visually and geologically significant.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic SH Vega

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 9 Maniitsoq - Cruising Semilinnguaq Fjord, Greenland

Maniitsoq, Greenland’s sixth-largest town, is nestled among jagged peaks on Maniitsoq Island. Cliffs teem with birdlife while whales visit the waters seasonally. The small museum, housed in four old colonial buildings, displays Maniitsoq's history and intricately beaded collars from West Greenlandic women's national dress. Staircases offer panoramic views including the 470-step climb up the “Eiffel Tower” or Sakkortusaavik.

Sailing through Semilinnguaq Fjord reveals the raw, untamed beauty of the Arctic. Sheer granite walls rise dramatically from deep waters, their reflections shimmering in mirror-like stillness. Whales occasionally glide below the surface, adding life to the scene, while the calls of seabirds echo through the serene landscape. This journey offers a glimpse of some of the planet's most untouched and awe-inspiring scenery.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic SH Vega

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 10 Evigheds Glacier, Greenland

The Evigheds Glacier, a majestic outflow from the Greenland Ice Sheet, carves through the dramatic Kangerlussuatsiaq Fjord, also known as Eternity Fjord. This 75-kilometre-long waterway is a haven for wildlife with white-tailed eagles and black-legged kittiwakes soaring above. Calving icebergs showcase Greenland's raw beauty, but sadly like many glaciers, it is slowly retreating due to global warming's impact on this fragile Arctic ecosystem.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic SH Vega

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 11 Qeqertarsuaq, Greenland

Qeqertarsuaq is the largest town on Disko Island, Greenland's largest island. Lyngemark Glacier rises above the town while the area’s hills, basalt columns and black sand beaches reflect its volcanic origin. The area is fertile and home to species not found elsewhere in Greenland. Keep an eye out for its hot springs as we move through floating icebergs.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic SH Vega

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 12 Eqip Sermia Glacier - Disko Bay - Illulissat, Greenland

Eqi Glacier, or Eqip Sermia in Greenlandic, is one of Greenland's largest and most active calving glaciers, spanning nearly 4 kilometres wide and towering over 200 metres. Visitors may also witness calving as pieces of ice break off the glacier's face, creating deafening bangs and giant splashes that send waves across the bay. The contrast between thunderous calving and the ensuing silence provides a glimpse of Greenland's dynamic icy landscape.

Known for its Inuit culture, whales and icebergs, Disko Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Western Greenland. The bay is also home to the Ilulissat Icefjord, one of the fastest-moving glaciers in the world. First visited by Europeans in 1596 in search of a Northwest Passage to Asia, it has been an Inuit home for millennia. The village of Qeqertarsuaq embodies thriving Inuit traditions, preserving the cultural legacy.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic SH Vega

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 13 Illulissat, Disko Bay, Greenland

Sailing through the iceberg capital of the world to Disko Bay and the Ilulissat Icefjord is one of the cruise highlights. Given UNESCO World Heritage Site status, the Ilulissat Icefjord is a popular tourist destination, and thanks to the productive Sermeq Kujalleq glacier, thousands of gargantuan icebergs calve from the Greenland ice cap into the sea. The city of Ilulissat is home to many sled-dogs.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic SH Vega

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 14 Sisimiut, Greenland

As the northernmost city in Greenland, just above the Arctic Circle, Sisimiut remains remarkably ice free in winter so is known as an adventure sports hub all year round. Inhabited for more than 4,500 years by the Dorset, Thule and eventually the Inuit people, dog sledding remains a vital form of transportation. The area is also home to humpback whales and Arctic foxes in their summer coat.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic SH Vega

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 15 Disembark Nuuk, Greenland - Reykjavik, Iceland

This morning, disembark SH Vega before being transferred to the airport for your charter flight to Reykjavik, Iceland. Upon arrival, you'll be transferred to your hotel for a 2-night city stopover. Once checked in, enjoy the remainder of of the day at leisure.

Home to more than a third of Greenlanders, the capital of Nuuk has a thriving cultural scene including the Greenland National Museum which is home to the world-renowned Qilakitsoq mummies. Also known by its Danish name of Godthåb (Good Hope), Nuuk's bustling harbour features Nuuk Cathedral and colourful wooden houses alongside modern architecture. Nuuk also serves as a gateway to Inuit experiences and adventures in the surrounding fjords and mountains.

Overnight: Grandi by Center Hotels or similar, Reykjavik, Iceland

Meals included: Breakfast

Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.
