Dan Carter’s Memorable World Cup Moments

Since its inaugural tournament in 1987, Rugby World Cup has showcased some of the most talented players to have ever graced the game. In the competition’s relatively short but rich history, there have been upsets, fantastic tries, dramatic late clinchers and even typhoons!

TripADeal ambassador and All Blacks legend Dan Carter, one of New Zealand’s most celebrated sportsmen, has been at the centre of many of these moments.

Here is a look back at the greatest fly-half to have played the games most memorable World Cup moments:

Wrongfooted
In his last ever game for the All Blacks, a World Cup final no less, Dan lined up his final conversion with his right foot. As the hooter sounded the usually left footed kicker slotted the goal and cemented the win. Thinking back on the kick, Dan recalls: “It was a bit weird but it’s always been a dream of mine to kick a conversion right-footed.”

Man of the match
After kicking four penalties, two conversions, a drop goal and setting up three tries it was only fitting that Carter was awarded the man of the match in the 2015 World Cup final.

Comeback King
Succumbing to a major injury during the 2011 World Cup, Dan worked hard on his rehabilitation only to return as a champion four years later. His efforts were recognised by the greater sports community when he received the ‘Comeback of the Year’ award at the Laureus World Sports Awards in 2016.

That Drop goal
Dropping a goal from 40 metres out just as Australia were threatening to stage a remarkable comeback may have been Dan Carter’s crowning moment. It was an individual effort that changed the game and cemented the All Black’s their record breaking third world cup.
