Day 7 Cape Town - Half Day City Tour

After breakfast, enjoy a half-day city tour of Cape Town.

Drive to the city centre and go past landmarks such as the Castle of Good Hope (built in 1666 by the Dutch East India Company), City Hall, and the Grand Parade. As you follow the city's main thoroughfare, Adderley Street, see St. George's Cathedral, the seat of the Anglican Diocese and former parish of Nobel Peace Laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Then pass the Company Gardens and the Malay Quarter, also known as the Bo-Kaap (which means "Above Cape"), due to its location on the slopes of Table Mountain. In the early 18th century, thousands of slaves from Java, Ceylon, and other Far Eastern regions were brought to Cape Town. After slavery was abolished, their descendants, known as the Cape Malays, settled here.

The tour continues with a visit to Jewel Africa, where you will witness the art of diamond cutting and the careful craftsmanship of jewellery making by skilled experts. Here, you will also discover the history of the diamond and gold trade in South Africa. Afterwards, ascend Signal Hill to witness the firing of the noon gun (except on Sundays and Public Holidays).

At the end of the tour, you will be offered the option of being dropped off at Table Mountain. You can ascend to the top by the revolving cable car (weather permitting and at your own expense) to see wildflowers, the famous silver tree, and a stunning bird's-eye view of the city and its beaches. On a clear day, it is even possible to see Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, on one side and Cape Point on the other. Alternatively, you can be returned to the hotel or dropped off at the waterfront.

Day 8 Cape Town - Free Day

Today is free at leisure to further explore the beautiful city of Cape Town. Alternatively, you can take the opportunity to join an optional activity (not included).

Optional Activity: Full-Day Peninsula Tour
Head to Cape Point, a stunning destination at the southwestern tip of the Cape Peninsula with some of the most spectacular views in the world. The drive itself is just as inspiring, passing steep mountains, secluded coves, and sweeping beaches, as well as charming villages and fishing communities. The tour begins with a scenic drive along the Atlantic coast, passing through the cosmopolitan suburb of Sea Point and Camps Bay, which offers glorious views of the Twelve Apostles, part of the Table Mountain range. Continue to the fishing village of Hout Bay, one of Cape Town's best-kept secrets. Here, you have the option to take a short boat trip to Duiker Island to view the Cape Fur Seals that inhabit the island (at your own expense and time permitting).

From here, travel to the Cape Point Nature Reserve, comprising over 17,300 acres of indigenous fauna and flora. Home to a variety of wildlife that includes baboons, rhebok, Cape Mountain zebra, bontebok, and the elusive eland. The reserve is also one of the world's largest breeding grounds for tortoises. Birdwatchers, too, will find many fine species to observe. The majestic coastline offers drama worthy of being called "Nature's Greatest Show." You will be able to see the union of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans (as per legend) and may even feel the brisk wind dubbed the "Cape Doctor" for its presumed curative powers.

Following the coastline along False Bay, return to Cape Town by way of Simon's Town, where we will visit the penguin colony at Boulders Beach (entrance fee not included), the fishing village of Fish Hoek, and Muizenberg. Before concluding the tour, we pass the University of Cape Town, Rhodes Memorial, and the Groote Schuur Hospital.

Please note: The drive via Chapman's Peak is subject to the road being open. Ou Kaapse Weg (mountain pass in Cape Town) will be used as an alternative route when necessary.

Day 19 South Georgia: Grytviken & Ocean Harbour

Arrive: 07:00 - Depart: 12:00

Often called the 'Galapagos of the Poles,' South Georgia has several landing sites with tens of thousands of King and Gentoo penguins, forming some of the largest populations in the world, alongside harrumphing elephant seals. Among its remarkable sites is Grytviken, the historic whaling station where legendary British explorer Ernest Shackleton (1874–1922) is laid to rest. Grytviken is the most significant historical site and the administrative centre of the remote British Overseas Territory of South Georgia. Located in King Edward Cove, it is a crucial stop for nearly all expedition cruises visiting the sub-Antarctic island. The site is a haunting and fascinating blend of human history, conservation success, and dramatic sub-Antarctic landscape.

Arrive: 14:00 - Depart: 20:00

Ocean Harbour is a fascinating and scenic landing site on the northeast coast of South Georgia, east of Cumberland Bay. While not as large or famous as Grytviken, it is highly valued by expedition cruise visitors for its potent combination of wildlife, industrial relics, and rugged sub-Antarctic scenery.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic, SH Diana Ship

Day 20 South Georgia: Saint Andrews Bay & Gold Harbour

Arrive: 07:00 - Depart: 12:00

Saint Andrew's Bay is widely regarded as the most spectacular wildlife destination in South Georgia, and one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on the entire planet. It is often referred to as the "Serengeti of the South" due to the sheer density and volume of animals found there. Located on the north coast of South Georgia, the wide, exposed bay is backed by the dramatic, snow-capped Allardyce Range and framed by three large, retreating glaciers (Cook, Buxton, and Heaney).

Arrive: 14:00 - Depart: 20:00

While the landing sites of South Georgia often share a mix of history and wildlife, Gold Harbour is celebrated primarily for its overwhelming natural beauty and the sheer volume of its concentrated animal life, framed by a spectacular mountainous backdrop. It is arguably the most beautiful bay on the entire island.

Day 23 Antarctica: Elephant Island, South Shetland Islands

Among captivating glaciers, majestic icebergs and snowy islands, the Antarctic Peninsula is where most visitors to the White Continent live their Antarctica dream. It's the most accessible part, with scientific bases and incredible scenery, like the photogenic Lemaire Channel. Shore excursions might include Mikkelsen Harbour, where, among gentoo penguins, snowy sheathbills and skuas, Antarctic Weddell seals haul out.

Arrive: 12:00 - Depart: 19:00

Elephant Island is a small, ice-covered, mountainous island located in the outer reaches of the South Shetland Islands archipelago in the Antarctic region. While it is bleak, heavily glaciated, and lacks any notable human infrastructure, it is one of the most historically significant places in Antarctica.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic, SH Diana Ship

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 24 Antarctica: Danger Island & Paulet Island

Arrive: 07:00 - Depart: 12:00

These two islands, located near the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula, are both defined by vast penguin populations and the history of heroic-age polar exploration. The Danger Islands are a small, isolated archipelago located due east of Joinville Island and the Antarctic Peninsula, situated in the northwestern part of the Weddell Sea. Until 2018, this archipelago was thought to be sparsely populated. A research team using satellite technology discovered that it is home to one of the largest continuous colonies of Adélie Penguins in the world, estimated at 1.5 million individuals, more than the rest of the Antarctic Peninsula region combined.

Arrive: 15:00 - Depart: 20:00

Paulet Island is a small, circular, volcanic island located near the northern end of the Antarctic Peninsula (close to Dundee Island) in the northwestern Weddell Sea. Paulet Island is famous for its large colony of Adelie Penguins, hosting approximately 100,000 breeding pairs.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic, SH Diana Ship

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 25 Antarctica: Brown Bluff & Hope Bay

Arrive: 07:00 - Depart: 12:00

Brown Bluff and Hope Bay are two highly significant, contrasting landing sites located very close to each other on the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula, specifically on the shores of the Antarctic Sound (the entrance to the Weddell Sea). The area is known for its dramatic volcanic geology, high wildlife concentration, and rich history of exploration and research. Brown Bluff is a spectacular geological site famous for its unique appearance and impressive penguin colonies.

Arrive: 13:00 - Depart: 20:00

Hope Bay (known as Bahia Esperanza in Spanish) is a large bay located just a few kilometres northwest of Brown Bluff, famous for its history and its large, year-round scientific base.

Overnight: Swan Hellenic, SH Diana Ship

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 26 Antarctica: Half Moon Island & Deception Island, Whalers Bay

Arrive: 07:00 - Depart: 11:00

Half Moon Island is a small, crescent-shaped island located in the McFarlane Strait between Livingston and Greenwich Islands. It is one of the most frequently visited sites in the South Shetlands and often serves as a visitor's first or last taste of Antarctica. The island is an Important Bird Area (IBA) and a reliable place for wildlife viewing of Chinstrap Penguins, Seals and Seabirds.

Arrive: 15:00 - Depart: 20:00

Deception Island is one of the most unique and geologically active sites in Antarctica. It is an active volcano whose flooded caldera forms a nearly circular, sheltered bay called Port Foster. Whalers Bay is the island's most historically significant landing site. Whalers Bay holds the most extensive remains of human activity in Antarctica. It was the site of the Hektor Whaling Station, which operated from 1912 to 1931. The rusting remnants of huge whale-oil tanks, boilers, and decaying buildings stand as a designated Historic Site or Monument (HSM 71), offering a powerful, haunting glimpse into the whaling era.

Charcot Bay is a geographically distinct bay located at the base of the Trinity Peninsula, discovered by the Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1901–04) and named for the noted French explorer, Jean-Baptiste Charcot.

Lindblad Cove is located within Charcot Bay. This cove was officially named in 1995 to commemorate Lars-Eric Lindblad (1927–1994), the pioneer who led the first tourist cruise to Antarctica in 1966. The naming honours his legacy in conservation and expedition travel. The area is known for spectacular scenery, often filled with icebergs and brash ice that break off from surrounding glaciers (such as the Andrew and McNeile Glaciers) and drift into the bay.

Arrive: 13:00 - Depart: 19:00

Among the remarkable sites of South Georgia lies Grytviken, the historic whaling station where legendary British explorer Ernest Shackleton (1874–1922) is laid to rest.

Day 22 Cape Town, South Africa - Disembark Cruise

Arrival: 08:00

This morning, enjoy breakfast before disembarking the cruise ship with a lifetime of memories. Upon arrival in Cape Town, be met by a tour representative and transferred to the hotel. If it is too early for check-in, then luggage can be stored at the hotel while you explore this magnificent city.

Cape Town, often called the “Mother City,” is one of the most scenic and vibrant destinations in South Africa, set between the dramatic backdrop of Table Mountain and the sparkling waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The city blends natural beauty, rich history, and cosmopolitan culture, making it a must-visit for travellers. Its heart lies at the V&A Waterfront, a lively harbour precinct filled with shops, restaurants, and attractions like the Two Oceans Aquarium and the ferry departure point to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned.

Overnight: Radisson Collection Waterfront or similar, Cape Town

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 23 Cape Town - Half Day City Tour

Overnight: Radisson Collection Waterfront or similar, Cape Town

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 24 Cape Town - Free Day

Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

Please note: Many areas may be inaccessible to wheelchairs or mobility scooters, where the unassisted use of personal walking sticks and other aids may be required. Although some assistance may be available, every traveller should be self-reliant during all aspects of their travel.
Please note: It is expected that every traveller must be self-reliant and able to undertake all aspects of their own travel. Please speak to your booking agent about your personal circumstances and any assistance requirements to ensure this tour is right for you.
Please note: If you have any concerns, please consult your healthcare provider prior to purchase/travel.

Yellow Fever:
A valid international certificate of vaccination against Yellow Fever is required in many countries. You may need to present this on arrival at the airport or border crossing. Some countries will refuse entry if you are unable to present your certificate. It's also common for your home country to request a Yellow Fever certificate upon arrival.
You must check with your doctor well before leaving home about the Yellow Fever requirements for the countries you'll be visiting.

Sightseeing:
Please note: If entry to a site is affected by changes in operating hours or public holiday closures, your itinerary, where possible, may be adjusted, or a similar activity will be offered in its place (subject to availability).

Shopping:
Shopping overseas can be a daunting and confusing experience, especially when there is a language barrier. Please be very cautious when foreign currencies and prices are involved. If paying by credit card, please pay close attention to the amount you are being charged and keep all your receipts.
Do not make any purchases you are not comfortable with or feel pressured into. If you are uncertain or need assistance with the language barrier, please seek assistance from your Tour Guide/Leader.
Please refer to our Terms and Conditions regarding shopping for further information.

Visas

South Africa
A tourist visa for South Africa is not required for stays up to 90 days if travelling on an Australian or New Zealand Passport.

Argentina
As a tourist, you can stay for up to 90 days without a visa, but you'll need evidence that you intend to depart the country within the 90 days, along with the following:
• A return or onward ticket and valid passport.
• Travel/medical insurance.
Please note: Officials may also ask for proof of accommodation and evidence that you have enough money or a credit card to cover your trip.
Please Note: Effective immediately, all international travellers to Argentina must hold valid travel insurance with medical coverage.
This insurance may be requested and verified upon arrival in the country.
Argentina’s public healthcare system will no longer provide free medical services to foreign nationals. It is therefore essential that you obtain appropriate insurance before your departure.

Chile (If transiting)
As of 17th September 2025 tourist visas for Chile are not required if travelling on an Australian Passport. You can stay in Chile for up to 90 days without a visa. If you're unsure whether you need a visa, contact the nearest embassy or consulate of Chile.

New Zealand (If transiting)
All travellers to New Zealand are required to complete a traveller declaration 24 hours prior to arrival in New Zealand.

Most Australian citizens don’t need a visa to enter unless you have a criminal record or if you've been deported from any country. Australian permanent residents need to apply online for a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) to enter New Zealand. Australian citizens are exempt from this rule. New Zealand Immigration requires you to have 3 months of validity on your passport after the date you plan to leave.

Important:
• Please start arranging your visa three weeks before departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.
• Visa rules are subject to change. Please check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination/s you are visiting once you receive your travel documentation to ensure you have the most up to date information.
• It is your responsibility to be travel-ready and ensure that you are aware and comply with any destination or travel requirements, including the validity of all required travel documents.
• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.
• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.

Travel insurance

Embarking on your next trip is exciting, and while you hope the unexpected does not happen, it is best to be prepared. We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance when making your booking. Whether it’s a potential medical emergency, a flight cancellation, a delayed suitcase, or an unforeseen event, it's important to ensure you're adequately protected.
