Optional Activity: Half-Day Valley of Fire
Valley of Fire State Park derives its name from the red sandstone formations that are featured prominently throughout the park. Formed from great shifting dunes during the age of dinosaurs, these are the centrepiece of the park's attractions and often appear to be aflame when reflecting the sun's rays. You'll start your tour at the Visitor Center where you'll get an introduction to the park’s geology, ecology and history. You'll then enjoy time for light hiking in the park to view ancient petrified trees and petroglyphs dating back more than 2,000 years.
