Set sail across the sparkling waters of the Saronic Gulf to the first stop, Hydra, a truly picturesque island known for its traditional architecture, artistic flair, and complete absence of vehicles. Stroll at a leisurely pace through the charming cobblestone streets, lined with quaint shops, cafés, and stone mansions. Don’t miss a visit to the island’s cathedral or take a moment to enjoy a coffee by the harbour as donkeys and water taxis carry on the daily rhythm of island life.

Back on board, enjoy a delicious buffet lunch while sailing to the next destination, the tranquil island of Poros. The island’s landmark clock tower provides lovely views of the Peloponnesian coast and makes for a great photo opportunity.

The journey continues with a visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), home to a vast collection of ancient artefacts. Notable highlights include the Hanging Obelisk, the towering statue of King Ramesses II, ten statues of Pharaoh Senusret, the Victory Column of Merenpetah, statues of a Ptolemaic King and Queen, and the impressive Grand Staircase Gallery.

With 107 exhibition halls, the museum’s ground floor features monumental statues, while additional sections include a dedicated photography area and a comprehensive library.

The day continues with a visit to the Coptic Christian community, the majority of Egypt’s Christian population. Followers of the Coptic Orthodox Church, the Copts are regarded as direct descendants of the Ancient Egyptians and were among the earliest to embrace Christianity. The term “Copt” originates from the Arabic “Qibt” or “Gibt,” itself derived from the Greek “Aegyptos,” which in turn stems from the Ancient Egyptian name “Hikaptah” (Ha-Ka-Ptah), the ancient name for Memphis—Egypt’s first capital around 3100 BC.

The Coptic Church traces its spiritual roots to St. Mark, the traditional author of the Gospel of Mark, who is considered the founding father of the Coptic Orthodox Church.

The construction of the Ptolemaic Temple of Horus, built on the foundations of an earlier structure, began during the reign of Ptolemy III in 246 BC. Other important information

Greek Accommodation Tax
As part of its comprehensive strategy to finance the reconstruction efforts following devastating forest fires and floods, the Greek government has introduced a new accommodation tax, which has officially taken effect this January 2024. Known as the “climate resilience levy,” this tax represents a significant departure from the previous bed tax and is structured to be paid by tourists at their lodging upon check-in. This fee will vary depending on the travel season.

From March to October, the new tourist tax will increase accommodation costs. The fees for hotels will increase as follows:
• 3 euros per night for 3-star hotels
• 7 euros per night for 4-star hotels
• 10 euros per night for 5-star hotels.

From November to February, the rate will vary from 1.5 euro to 4 euros, depending on the hotel category.

Please note: Above mentioned taxes are not included and travellers are required to settle these fees locally, in the local currency, directly at the accommodation.

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER

The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Greece
Temperatures in March, experience mild temperatures with gradual warming as the month progresses. Coastal areas and islands typically have average daytime temperatures ranging from 15°C to 20°C. Inland areas, including cities like Athens and Thessaloniki, can have temperatures ranging from 10°C to 15°C. April is a great time to visit Greece, when the mean temperature is 21°C degrees and rainfall is minimal and continues on through to October with average temperatures ranging from 21-29°C. Days are sunny and clear!

Egypt
There is never a shortage of sunshine in Egypt, with averages of 11 hours a day during the summer and 8 hours a day in winter. From April to October the average temperature ranges from 21-28 C while between November and March this drops to 13-20C. This does vary along the Mediterranean coast which, while still warm, is more prone to periods of cloud and rain in winter. Generally, winters in Egypt are warm enough to allow pleasant and comfortable travelling all year long, though travellers should be prepared for cold nights.

Important:
• Please start arranging your visa three weeks before departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.
• Visa rules are subject to change. Please check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination/s you are visiting once you receive your travel documentation to ensure you have the most up to date information.
• It is your responsibility to be travel-ready and ensure that you are aware and comply with any destination or travel requirements, including the validity of all required travel documents.
• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.
• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.
