Day 6 Jeju Island (Seogwipo), South Korea

Arrive 07:00 - Depart 16:00

Seogwipo is the second-largest city on Jeju Island, settled on a rocky volcanic coastline in the southern part of Jeju Province, South Korea. Lying off the south coast of Korea, Jeju-do is the warmest and wettest place in the entire country. The island's mixture of volcanic rock, frequent rain and temperate climate, make it very similar to the islands of Hawaii. Jeju-do is basically an island composed of extinct volcanoes formed by volcanic matter such as basalt and trachyte and layered with sedimentary rock. It still has an extinct volcano called Mt Hallasan, which, at 1950 metres also doubles up as the island's main mountain.

The seasons determine the changing hues of colour throughout the island however, the island is at its most beautiful in spring. This is when the canola flower blooms in a riot of delicate colours and the wooded areas display the most fascinating shades of green.

The island offers visitors a wide range of activities with the most popular being hiking on Halla-san, South Korea's highest peak. Enjoy the chance to see majestic waterfalls or lay on the sandy beaches. One of the most outstanding features of the island is a regular maze of tunnels, caves and pillars formed by the cooling of lava flows from ancient volcanoes.

Day 9 Hakodate, Japan

Arrive 07:00 - Depart 21:00

In 1859, the port of Hakodate was among the first Japanese cities to fully open to Westerners under the Treaty of Amity and Commerce. Foreigners soon flocked to Hakodate, and today visitors wandering the cobblestone streets of the city's Motomachi District can view the Western-style frame houses. Hakodate, once a fishing port famed for its high quality fish and shellfish, quickly became Hokkaido's largest city and one of Japan's most important ports.

Today, the city is Hokkaido's third largest but retains its position as the finest Japanese producer of high quality seafood for sushi. It may not compare to Tokyo's Tsukiji Fish Market, but at Hakodate's 4-block-long morning market, vendors offer an array of fresh fish and shellfish including salmon roe, sea urchin, scallops and crab. Restaurants and food stands prepare a wide range of dishes including domburi topped with fresh seafood.

Mt Sokuryo has a park with panoramic views of the bridge and the city. Across the harbour, you can see the broad span of Hakuchō Bridge is lit up at night. There are falcons and rock formations on the coast near Masuichi Beach while the Cape Chikyu Lighthouse overlooks Uchiura Bay and is home to whales and dolphins.

Day 5 Hiroshima, Japan

Arrive 08:00 - Depart 18:00

In 1945, human history was irrevocably altered when American bomber Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. The bomb was code-named "Little Boy" but its detonation left half the city in ruins. Today, Hiroshima is a monument not only to the destructive forces harnessed by men but also to the indomitable will of the human spirit to overcome tragedy.

At the heart of the city lies Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome. The gutted walls of the city's old Industry Promotion Hall and the skeletal frame that supported its copper dome, vaporised in the blast, are instantly recognisable symbols of Hiroshima.

Travellers to Hiroshima will discover a more serene note on nearby Miyajima Island. One of the top 3 scenic spots of Japan, the island is home to the ancient Itsukushima Shrine, a designated national treasure.

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Day 7 Busan, South Korea

Arrive 07:00 - Depart 16:00

As the second largest city in South Korea, Busan is your gateway to a fascinating land whose culture is a unique amalgam of old and new. You'll find that modern high-rise towers dwarf ancient Buddhist temples. In short, Busan is a microcosm of South Korea, a nation whose startling economic success often obscures one of Asia's most sophisticated and venerable cultures.

Busan was the scene of bitter fighting during the Korean War so, if you're interested in history, head to The United Nations Memorial Cemetery. This marks the final resting place for troops from 11 nations who gave their lives during the conflict.

Day 9 Kagoshima, Japan

Arrive 09:00 - Depart 18:00

From the 12th century to the Meiji Restoration of 1868, Kagoshima was the chief stronghold of the mighty Shimazu clan. The city lies at the top of the Satsuma Peninsula, a mountainous and geothermal wonderland of hot springs and geysers. The symbol of Kagoshima is Sakurajima, the volcanic island that sits just offshore. The volcano has erupted over 30 times in recorded history.

The area is also rich in modern Japanese history as Saigo Takamori and the Satsuma samurai were leaders of the Meiji Restoration that toppled the shogun and restored the Emperor to power in 1868. In 1877, dissatisfied with the direction of the new government, Saigo led the Satsuma Rebellion. This ended in his death and the final defeat of the samurai.

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 10 Miyazaki (Aburatsu), Japan

Arrive 08:00 - Depart 18:00

Boasting the second warmest temperatures in Japan, Miyazaki offers a playground of outdoor activities that take full advantage of its balmy breezes and aquamarine waters. You'll find that the resort atmosphere is fragranced by blooms from local botanical gardens.

Emerald green golf courses, some of the best surfing in Japan and a zoo with the largest number of flamingos in Japan add to the festive atmosphere. Don't miss The Peace Tower which was built with stones from throughout Asia. Visit Haniwa Gardens where over 400 replica haniwa (burial statues) make for wonderful photo opportunities. See Miyazaki's history and culture on display at the Miyazaki Prefectural Museum of Nature and History, located on the same grounds as the picturesque Miyazaki Shrine. For a change of pace, stop into the Miyazaki Science Center where an animatronic "Dr Cosmo" welcomes you.

Looking for a little adventure? Take a side trip to Aoshima, a small island just off the coast of Miyazaki City, or enjoy the charming Aoshima Shrine boasting over 400 species of subtropical plants.

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 11 Kochi, Japan

Arrive 08:00 - Depart 17:00

Kochi takes its name from the great feudal castle that sits at its very heart. Completed in 1611, Kochi Castle was the seat of Yamauchi Kazutoyo, a noted warrior who supported Tokugawa Ieyasu in his successful quest to become Shogun. Tosa Province and Kochi Castle were Yamauchi's reward for faithful service. There is an historical irony here as 250 years later, a former low-ranked samurai turned ronin, named Sakamoto Ryoma, played a pivotal role in bringing the Tokugawa Shogunate to an end and restoring the Emperor of Japan to political prominence. The prize once awarded for faithful service had become a hotbed of support for the Meiji Restoration.

Kochi is one of the wettest places in Japan and a frequent target for cyclonic storms or typhoons. Southeast of the city, warm oceans currents washing against the Aki Mountains create a subtropical landscape of hibiscus, palm and ficus at Muroto-Anan Quasi-National Park.

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 12 Tokushima, Japan

Arrive 07:00 - Depart 16:00

Born as a 16th century castle town whose remains now lay scattered near a park and museum, Tokushima is best known for its colourful summer dance festival, the Awa Odori.

The city is the perfect gateway to the mesmerising Naruto whirlpools, the panoramic views from atop Mt Bizan and the spectacular gorges of Iya Valley. Whether you're entranced with the ways of the warrior or under the spell of the extraordinary attractions, Tokushima offers exciting new experiences and unforgettable adventures.

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 13 Shimizu (for Mt Fuji), Japan

Arrive: 11:00 - Depart: 18:00

A mesmerising landscape, a revered cultural history and Japan's most sacred volcano are just a few delights beckoning you to explore this ancient city. While Shimizu may have the reputation as being bustling and modern, its cultural and spiritual side is on display in the form of ancient and enthralling shrines.

Of course, it may be the sacred and snow-capped Mount Fuji that garners the most attention. Towering over the region at approximately 12,388 feet above sea level, the active volcano is just one of the many unforgettable adventures Shimizu inspires.

Visas

Australian passport holders are visa-exempt for a stay of up to 90 days when travelling as a tourist.

South Korea
Australian passport holders no longer need to apply for a Korean Electronic Travel Authorisation (K-ETA), under a temporary exemption in place until 31 December 2025. Be sure to keep an eye on your visa requirements for entry into South Korea after this date for your 2026 departure.

Important:
• Please start arranging your visa three weeks before departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.
• Visa rules are subject to change. Please check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination/s you are visiting once you receive your travel documentation to ensure you have the most up to date information.
• It is your responsibility to be travel-ready and ensure that you are aware and comply with any destination or travel requirements, including the validity of all required travel documents.
• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.
• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.
