Day 4 Norfolk Island

Arrives: 0800 - Departs: 18:00

Norfolk Island's Cascade Bay was originally occupied by Polynesians centuries ago, yet was generally considered uninhabited by the time Captain Cook landed in 1774.

Used by the British as a convict penal outpost, the relocation of Pitcairn Islanders in 1856 began its permanent population. Near the main settlement of Burnt Pine, historic convict houses are ready to be explored, and you might even overhear some of the locals speaking the creole “Norfuk” language, a mix of 18th century English and Tahitian.

Norfolk Island is a volcanic remnant and its shoreline largely consists of cliffs. The area around the base of Mount Bates is preserved as Norfolk Island National Park, home to native forest, including the distinctive tall, Norfolk Island pines and several indigenous palms and tree ferns.

Mystery Island is a tiny uninhabited islet near the island of Aneityum in Vanuatu. The local name for the island is Inyeug in the Anejom language.

The island's castaway atmosphere offers water sports and cultural activities, as well as shopping for locally-produced handicrafts. Snorkelling and swimming, hiking the island’s short trails and getting to know the locals all make for a relaxing beach day in a South Pacific paradise.

Day 13 Apia, Upolu, Samoa - Cross International Date Line

Arrives: 09:00 - Departs: 18:00

Explore the rich cultural heritage of Apia, Samoa's capital located on the island of Upolu in a natural harbour at the mouth of the Vaisigano River. An eclectic and fascinating mixture of traditional Samoan houses and 19th century churches sit alongside shops and local markets. Samoan culture is abundant everywhere, from fresh fish and unusual tropical fruits that fill the markets to outrigger canoes making their way across the harbour. The city’s most famous resident was Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson, who spent his final years in Samoa and where his house now operates as a museum. ​

The International Date Line
Please note: This day lasts 48 hours. Travelling from west to east the calendar date is changed one day backward when crossing the date line.

The International Date Line is an imaginary line of navigation on the Earth's surface running between the North Pole and the South Pole to demarcate a change from one calendar day to another. It passes across the middle of the Pacific Ocean approximately along the 180th degree of longitude, although it deviates at various points.

Travelling from east to west, the calendar date is changed one day forward upon crossing the halfway point. Likewise, when travelling west to east, the calendar date is changed one day backward when crossing the date line.

A new sailor who has never crossed the Equator while at sea, known as a 'pollywog', is expected to undergo a mock trial by 'King Neptune and his court' for the entertainment of the 'shellbacks' who have already made this momentous crossing. Join in the fun where mild but hilarious indignities will be conjured, and in the end a good time will be had by most, if not all.

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide: 
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group. 

Tour Leader: 
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined. 

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured. 

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Norfolk Island, Australia
April on Norfolk Island offers a pleasant, mild transition into autumn, with daytime temperatures averaging a comfortable 22°C and dipping to a soft 18°C at night. While the sea remains warm enough for swimming at 23°C, this month does see an increase in precipitation as the island enters its wetter season; you can expect roughly 120mm to 144mm of rain spread across about 16 days. Despite the occasional showers and high humidity levels—typically between 71% and 79%—the island still enjoys about 7 hours of daily sunshine, making it a great time for outdoor exploration as long as you keep a light raincoat handy.

New Caledonia
Compared to Norfolk Island, Noumea offers a more tropical experience in April, with daytime highs reaching a balmy 27°C and nighttime temperatures staying around 21°C. The water is significantly warmer here at 26°C, perfect for snorkelling the world's second-largest barrier reef. While it is slightly less rainy than Norfolk Island with about 105mm of precipitation over 10 to 14 days, the humidity remains high at 78%. You'll still get a solid 7 hours of sunshine a day, but the "Very High" UV index of 9 means you'll need to be much more diligent with sun protection than you would further south.

Mystery Island, vanuatu
Mystery Island is significantly warmer and more humid than both Norfolk Island and Noumea in April. With daytime highs of 29°C and a constant sea temperature of 28°C, it feels like a true tropical summer. However, it is also the wettest of the three destinations, receiving roughly 274mm of rain over 17 days. While the humidity is quite high at 83%, the frequent late-afternoon tropical downpours help cool the air, and you'll still enjoy plenty of clear skies with 7 hours of sun per day.

Fiji
In April, Suva and Savusavu are deeply tropical, with daytime temperatures hovering around 30°C and nighttime lows staying a balmy 23°C to 24°C. Both locations are quite wet during this time, as April marks the tail end of Fiji's wet season; Suva can receive up to 390mm of rain, while Savusavu averages around 304mm, often delivered in short, intense tropical bursts followed by steam and sunshine. With humidity levels pushing 84% and sea temperatures at a near-perfect 28°C, the air can feel quite heavy and hot, though the frequent rain provides a lush, vibrant green backdrop to the islands.

Samoa
Apia is very similar in climate to the Fijian locations, characterized by high heat and significant humidity in April. Daytime temperatures consistently hit 30°C, and the ocean stays a balmy 29°C, which is warmer than both Norfolk Island and Noumea. While it receives a substantial 261mm of rain, this usually falls over about 12 days, often in heavy but brief tropical showers. With 7 hours of daily sunshine and humidity levels around 79%, it offers a classic tropical environment that is lush and warm, though travelers should be prepared for the "oppressive" heat common during this transition month

Hawaii, USA
In May, Honolulu and Kona both average daytime highs of 28°C and nighttime lows around 21°C to 22°C, making for very consistent, pleasantly warm weather. Honolulu tends to be windier due to its exposure to the northeast trade winds, while Kona—shielded by the massive Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea volcanoes—is generally calmer with flatter seas. With the ocean at 26°C and very high UV levels, it’s a premier month for beach activities across both islands.

We do not arrange seat selection. It is essential to highlight that some airlines do not allow pre-selected seats. We strongly suggest you contact the airline directly with seating allocation requirements and/or arrive at the airport earlier to arrange your seating. While we do not add frequent flyer member details to bookings, you can do this directly with the airline once you have your flight information.

Dietary Requests
Meal options and availability differ between airlines and routes therefore not all dietary requests can be accommodated. If your flight includes meals we will select the most suitable option available based on the dietary requirements you have specified. All meal requests are subject to airline approval and are not guaranteed, therefore we recommend preparing for your flight by bringing appropriate food for yourself, as required. 

Passport Validity:
Customers must provide valid passport details either at the time of purchase or no later than 90 days before the departure date. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of the booking. Customers will be responsible for any costs and fees incurred in this instance.

• Due to security reasons, all guests must be on board 2 hours before sailing.

Luggage:
You will be responsible for all your personal belongings whilst on tour. You must carry your own luggage from the vehicle to the hotel room and back to the vehicle. The driver will assist with the uploading and unloading of bags from the vehicle.

Fitness Level Required:
Adventure (and spontaneity) create some of the best travel memories. Bear in mind, your home schedules and timings might not be adhered to on tour - it's all part of the fun!

Expect a comfortable pace of touring with a focus on leisure time and gentle activity. This may include city tours, the ability to walk up and down small flights of stairs and gentle slopes. You will be responsible for your own luggage and have the ability to board all modes of transport without assistance.
Please note: Some areas may be inaccessible to wheelchairs or mobility scooters, with personal walking sticks and other aids required should they be needed. Although some assistance may be available, every traveller should be self-reliant during all aspects of their travel.

Yellow Fever:
A valid international certificate of vaccination against Yellow Fever is required in many countries. You may need to present this on arrival at the airport or border crossing. You must check with your doctor well before leaving home about the Yellow Fever requirements for the countries you'll be visiting.

Sightseeing:

Wildlife sighting:
TripADeal cannot guarantee animal sightings on tour. Wildlife are unpredictable and factors such as weather conditions, predatory fear and animal movements can impact sightings. 

Shopping: 
Shopping overseas can be a daunting and confusing experience, especially when there is a language barrier. Please be very cautious when foreign currencies and prices are involved. If paying by credit card, please pay close attention to the amount you are being charged and keep all your receipts.

New Caledonia
Australian passport holders are visa exempt for a stay of up to 90 days per 180 days. The traveller must hold a passport valid at least six months beyond the period of intended stay with one blank visa page.

Vanuatu
Australian passport holders are visa exempt for a stay of up to 120 days. The traveller must hold a passport valid at least six months on entry with one blank visa page.

Fiji
Australian passport holders are visa exempt for a stay of up to four months. The traveller must hold a passport valid at least six months beyond the period of intended stay with one blank visa page.

Samoa
Australian passport holders are visa exempt for a stay of up to 30 days. The traveller must hold a passport valid at least six months beyond the period of intended stay with one blank visa page.

United States
If travelling on an Australian Passport, an ESTA (Visa Waiver) for the USA is a strict requirement when travelling to or flying through the USA. Once a USA ESTA Visa Waiver is issued it is valid for 2 years or until your passport expires (whichever is sooner) and will allow multiple entries into the USA. For information on ESTA eligibility or to apply, please visit https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/.

Please note: Due to recent changes in the USA Immigration policies, TripADeal recommends all travellers visit US Customs & Border Protection.

Important Note: If you have travelled to Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria or Yemen on or after specific designated dates (e.g., January 12, 2021, for Cuba), you may be ineligible for an ESTA and must apply for a non-immigrant visa at a US Embassy or Consulate. European Union Entry/Exit System (EES)
From October 12, 2025, a new European Entry System (EES) replaced the manual passport-stamping process for non-EU travellers. Upon arrival in the Schengen area, Australian and New Zealand passport holders will have their fingerprints recorded and a photograph taken. Their entry and exit dates will be electronically registered. No previous action is required, but please be aware of longer wait times at border entry. From 10 April 2026, the EES will be fully operational at all external border crossing points of all the European countries (Schengen area) using the system.

European Travel Information & Authorisation System (ETIAS)
As an extension of the EES implementation introduced in 2025, ETIAS travel authorisation is a mandatory entry requirement for visa-exempt nationals travelling to any of these 30 European countries, including Australian and New Zealand citizens, that will be introduced in 2026. We advise you to monitor smartraveller.gov.au closer to your departure to ensure you are up to date on the requirements at the time of entry.

In the event the tour package you have purchased is unable to proceed, and/or a Travel Supplier is unable to fulfil the tour due to external circumstances (Limitation of Liability e.g. a Force Majeure event), there may be a fee or amount of money that is withheld by our Suppliers and is unrecoverable. This may be due to non-refundable airline tickets, cancellation penalties with cruise cabins or unrecoverable payments with our land/accommodation partners. If refunds are not available from Suppliers, we will endeavour to obtain a travel credit on the best terms available and communicate these outcomes to you. In the event we are unable to obtain a refund or travel service credit, or part thereof, this cost is passed on to the customer as a Supplier Fee.
