Afterwards, continue to Lake Kawaguchiko, nearby in Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, to admire the scenery as you enjoy a short cruise across the lake. The waters are overlooked by surrounding mountains, including Mt Fuji and Mt Komagatake. On a still, clear day, you can see a perfect mirror image of Mt. Fuji reflected in the lake.

Today you will drive approximately 440 kilometres.

Overnight: Route-Inn Grantia Komaki or similar, Aichi Region

Day 5 Aichi Region – Kyoto – Osaka

This morning, travel onwards to Kyoto.

Your first visit will be Kiyomizudera Temple, one of the most celebrated temples of Japan, added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1994. Kiyomizudera is best known for its wooden stage that juts out from its main hall, 13 metres above the hillside.

Afterwards proceed to Kyoto city centre with free time to explore the ancient capital, or take the opportunity to join an optional tour of Kyoto (not included).

Optional Activity: Kyoto Half-Day Sightseeing Tour
The tour includes a stop at Fushimi Inari Shrine, an important Shinto shrine in southern Kyoto. It’s famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates, which straddle a network of trails behind its main buildings. The tour continues with a visit to Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion), a Zen temple in northern Kyoto that has gold leaf-covered floors on the top two floors. The last stop of the tour is the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, one of Kyoto’s top sights and for a good reason - standing amid these soaring stalks of bamboo is like being in another world.

Travel onwards to Osaka and check into your accommodation for an evening at leisure.

Today you will drive approximately 200 kilometres.

Overnight: Hotel Sobial Osaka Dome or similar, Osaka

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 6 Osaka Free Day

Today you can relax at the hotel, explore Osaka at your leisure or take an optional tour of Hiroshima.

Optional Activity: Hiroshima Day Trip
This morning transfer to Shin-Osaka train station, where your bullet train awaits. Climb aboard and marvel at the train's incredible velocity during a 2-hour ride to Hiroshima.

On arrival, continue the journey to Miyajimaguchi by coach or train, then board a boat to the majestic Miyajima Island, otherwise known as Itsukushima or Divine Island. A landmass hailed as one of Japan's most beautiful landscapes. Disembark and join a 45-minute guided discovery of the natural and cultural treasures of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Island. See the shimmering Itsukushima Shrine, then revitalise with a delicious lunch in a local eatery (not included).

Re-board the boat and return to Hiroshima to reflect on the region's history. Take a moment of contemplation at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, a historical site near where the WWII atomic bomb exploded. See exhibitions that articulate the destruction and marvel at the city's regenerative recovery. Finally, board a bus to the Atomic Bomb Dome (Genbaku Dome), a skeletal structure that miraculously survived.

Return to the train station for the exhilarating return journey to Osaka on the bullet train, where the tour concludes.

Overnight: Hotel Sobial Osaka Dome or similar, Osaka

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 7 Osaka – Nara – Shizuoka Region

This morning depart Osaka and head to nearby Nara to visit Nara Park, home to more than a thousand deer that are considered the messengers of the gods. As a symbol of the city, the deer have been designated national treasure status. Deer crackers are for sale around the park, and you'll find that some deer have learned to bow to visitors to ask to be fed.

Next, visit the Todaiji Temple, one of Japan's most famous and historically significant temples and a landmark of Nara. The temple was constructed in 752 as the head temple of all provincial Buddhist temples in Japan.

Afterwards, continue to the Shizuoka Region and check in at the hotel for an evening at leisure.

Today you will drive approximately 350 kilometres.

Overnight: Hotel MyStay Shimizu or similar, Shizuoka Region

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 8 Shizuoka – Hakone Sightseeing - Yokohama

Today travel back towards Tokyo, with a sightseeing tour of Hakone along the way.

Hakone is part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, less than one hundred kilometres from Tokyo. Famous for hot springs, natural beauty and the view across Lake Ashinoko of nearby Mount Fuji, Hakone is one of the most popular destinations among visitors looking for a break from the busy city of Tokyo.

First stop in Hakone is Owakudani which is the viewpoint and area around a crater created during the last eruption of Mount Hakone some 3000 years ago. Today, much of the area is an active volcanic zone where sulfurous fumes, hot springs and hot rivers can be experienced. Additionally, Owakudani has good views of Mount Fuji on clear days. Perhaps shop for eggs cooked in Owakudani's hot spring pools with their shells blackened by the sulfur - eating one is said to prolong one's life by seven years.

Afterwards, visit the Hakone Open Air Musuem. Situated in the mountains of Hakone, it spreads across 70,000 square metres and has beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. This art museum opened in 1969 and was the very first outdoor gallery in Japan. The defining feature of the Hakone Open-Air Museum is the vast array of 120 sculptures spread across the grounds. Including works by sculptors from both Japan and overseas, the many sculptures of this museum invite you to get up close to appreciate what each piece is trying to convey. Because these sculptures are outside, they can create different impressions from season to season. Whether against the backdrop of the beautiful florals of the spring or the bright sunlight of the summer, the red and yellow foliage of the fall or the stillness of the winter, the sculptures are beautiful whenever you visit. The museum is the perfect spot to go for a leisurely stroll surrounded by nature, all the while appreciating great art.

After leaving Hakone, drive to Yokohama and check into your hotel accommodation, then enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

Today you will drive approximately 180 kilometres.

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Day 11 Kochi, Japan

Arrives: 09:00 - Departs: 17:00

Kochi sits on the broad alluvial plain facing Urado Bay. This city in Shikoku takes its name from the great feudal castle that sits at its very heart. Completed in 1611, Kochi Castle was the seat of Yamauchi Kazutoyo, a noted warrior who supported Tokugawa Ieyasu in his successful quest to become Shogun. Tosa Province and Kochi Castle were Yamauchi's reward for faithful service. There is an historical irony here: 250 years later, a Kochi native son - a former low-ranked samurai and now ronin named Sakamoto Ryoma - played a pivotal role in bringing the Tokugawa Shogunate to an end and restoring the Emperor of Japan to political prominence. The prize once awarded for faithful service had become a hotbed of support for the Meiji Restoration.

Kochi is one of the wettest places in Japan. Southeast of the city, warm oceans currents washing against the Aki Mountains create a subtropical landscape of hibiscus, palm and ficus at Muroto-Anan Quasi-National Park.

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 12 Aburatsu (Miyazaki), Japan

Arrives: 07:00 - Departs: 17:00

Boasting the second warmest temperatures in Japan, Miyazaki offers a playground of outdoor activities that take full advantage of its balmy breezes and aquamarine waters. A resort atmosphere permeates Miyazaki, fragranced by blooms from local botanical gardens. Emerald green golf courses, some of the best surfing in Japan, and a zoo with the largest number of flamingos in captivity in all of Japan add to the festive atmosphere.

A Peace Tower, built with stones from throughout Asia anchors the city and Heiwadai Park and is one of the most noted landmarks. Visit Haniwa Gardens where over 400 replica haniwa (burial statues) make for wonderful photo opportunities, and see Miyazaki's history and culture on display at The Miyazaki Prefectural Museum of Nature and History, located on the same grounds as the picturesque Miyazaki Shrine.

For a change of pace, stop into the Miyazaki Science Center where an animatronics "Dr. Cosmo" welcomes you to this hands-on museum. Looking for a little adventure? Try a side trip to Aoshima, a small island just off the coast of Miyazaki City, and enjoy the charming Aoshima Shrine and over 400 species of subtropical plants. The options are endless in Miyazaki to soak up local colour… or just soak up the sun!

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 13 Nagasaki, Japan

Arrives: 09:00 - Departs: 18:00

For most travellers, Nagasaki became the second target of a nuclear attack, after Hiroshima, in 1945 during WWII. Today, visitors from around the world are drawn to Nagasaki's Peace Park and Atomic Bomb Museum.

This beautiful city on Kyushu is often described as the San Francisco of Japan, occupying verdant hills surrounded by a deep-water bay. For three centuries, Nagasaki was Japan's sole window on the world. The city is also celebrated as the setting for Puccini's opera "Madame Butterfly."

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 14 Busan, South Korea

Arrives: 07:00 - Departs: 20:00

The second largest city in South Korea, Busan is the gateway to a fascinating land whose culture is a unique amalgam of old and new. Modern high-rise towers dwarf ancient Buddhist temples. The city's bustling business district offers a stark contrast to the serene grounds of Yongdusan Park. Busan is a microcosm of South Korea, a nation whose startling economic success often obscures one of Asia's most sophisticated and venerable cultures.

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 15 Kanmon Straits, Japan

Enjoy scenic cruising through the Kanmon Straits, a narrow channel of water separating Honshu and Kyushu, two of Japan's main islands.

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Day 16 Osaka (for Kyoto), Japan

Arrives: 08:00 - Departs: 16:00

For centuries, Osaka was Japan's cultural and commercial gateway to Asia - the point of entry both for trade goods and, most importantly, cultural influences that shaped Japanese society. From tea to Zen, from art to science and philosophy, Osaka was Japan's contact with the great East Asian cultures that flourished in China and Korea.

The city reached its zenith in the late 16th century, when the great feudal lord Toyotomi Hideyoshi made Osaka his capital. Toyotomi was master of Japan, and an immense administrative and commercial centre rapidly developed around Osaka Castle. After Toyotomi's death, the nation's seat of power shifted from Osaka to a sleepy little fishing village called Edo - modern Tokyo. While overshadowed by Tokyo, Osaka remains Japan's second largest city.

Modern Osaka is home to monuments from Japan's past including Toyotomi's immense castle and the Sumiyoshi Shrine. The city is also the gateway to Kyoto, Japan's ancient imperial capital and the nation's cultural and spiritual centre.

Day 14 Hiroshima, Japan

Arrives: 07:00 - Departs: 17:00

On August 6, 1945, human history was irrevocably altered when the American bomber Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. The bomb was code-named "Little Boy," but its detonation left half the city in ruins and aflame.

Today, Hiroshima is a monument, not only to the destructive forces harnessed by man, but also to the indomitable will of the human spirit to overcome tragedy. At the heart of the city lies Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome. The gutted walls of the city's old Industry Promotion Hall and the skeletal frame that supported its copper dome, vaporised in the blast, are instantly recognisable symbols of Hiroshima.

Travellers to Hiroshima will discover a more serene note at nearby Miyajima Island. One of the top-three scenic spots of Japan, the island is home to ancient Itsukushima Shrine, a designated National Treasure.

Day 15 Kochi, Japan

Day 16 Kobe (for Kyoto), Japan

Arrives: 08:00 - Departs: 19:00

Kobe is the fifth-largest city in Japan and is the capital city of Hyogo Prefecture on the southern side of the main island of Honshu. Its name comes from "kanbe", an archaic title for supporters of the city's Ikuta Shrine. With a population of about 1.5 million, the city is part of the Keihanshin (Keihanshin) metropolitan area along with Osaka and Kyoto.

The earliest written records regarding the region come from the Nihon Shoki, which describes the founding of the Ikuta Shrine by Empress Jingu in AD 201. For most of its history the area was never a single political entity, even during the Tokugawa Period, when the port was controlled directly by the Tokugawa Shogunate. Kobe did not exist in its current form until its founding in 1889.

Kobe was one of the cities to open for trade with the West following the end of the policy of seclusion and has since been known as a cosmopolitan port city. The city is the point of origin and namesake of Kobe beef as well as the site of one of Japan's most famous hot spring resorts, Arima Onsen. Kobe is also the gateway to Kyoto, Japan's ancient imperial capital and the nation's cultural and spiritual centre.

A mesmerising landscape, a revered cultural history, and Japan's most sacred volcano are just a few of the many delights beckoning you to come and explore this ancient city. While Shimizu may have the reputation as being bustling and modern, its cultural and spiritual side is on display in the form of ancient and enthralling shrines. Of course, it may be the sacred and snow-capped Mount Fuji that garners the most attention. Towering over the region at approximately 3,775 metres above sea level, the active volcano, designated a "place and source of artistic inspiration" by UNESCO is just one of the many unforgettable adventures Shimizu inspires.

Deer crackers are for sale around the park, and you'll find that some deer have learned to bow to visitors to ask to be fed.

Day 11 Osaka (for Kyoto), Japan

Arrives: 08:00 - Departs: 20:00

Day 2 Tokyo sightseeing

After breakfast, discover Tokyo’s must-see landmarks on an introductory morning tour.

First up, step into the hushed tranquility of the Meiji Shrine, a breathtaking Shinto sanctuary consecrated to the Imperial Family in 1926. Wander along gravel paths lined by towering, ancient trees as your guide explains the history and rituals associated with this sacred shrine. Next up visit the Imperial Palace, built on the site of the former Edo Castle, has a history dating back to the 15th century, with the current palace structure completed in 1968. Leaving behind the city's vibrant clamour, immerse yourself in a vast, verdant oasis, a sprawling 1.15 square kilometres of meticulously manicured gardens and tranquil moats, a testament to centuries of imperial tradition nestled within the heart of Chiyoda Ward.

The tour will end at around lunchtime, and you’re free to explore this amazing city at your own leisure in the afternoon.

Overnight: Hotel Mystays Tachikawa or similar, Tokyo

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 3 Tokyo Free Day

Today, enjoy free time at leisure to explore Tokyo.

Overnight: Hotel Mystays Tachikawa or similar, Tokyo

Day 4 Tokyo – Mt Fuji – Aichi Region

After breakfast, drive to Mt Fuji’s 5th Station. Located 2300 metres above sea level, this observation point offers a commanding view of the Fuji Five Lakes area below, making it a popular spot even for those who do not intend on climbing the mountain, and it features shrines, torii gates and souvenir shops.

Afterwards continue onwards to the Aichi prefecture and check into the hotel and enjoy the evening at leisure.

Today you will drive approximately 440 kilometres.

Overnight: Route-Inn Grantia Komaki or similar, Aichi Region

Meals included: Breakfast

Today, you can relax at the hotel, or explore Osaka at your leisure.

Day 11 Nagasaki, Japan

Arrives: 10:00 - Departs: 19:00

Day 12 Busan, South Korea

Arrives: 07:00 - Departs: 16:00

The second largest city in South Korea, Busan is the gateway to a fascinating land whose culture is a unique amalgam of old and new. Modern high-rise towers dwarf ancient Buddhist temples. The city's bustling business district offers a stark contrast to the serene grounds of Yongdusan Park. Busan is a microcosm of South Korea, a nation whose startling economic success often obscures one of Asia's most sophisticated and venerable cultures.

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 15 Aburatsu (Miyazaki), Japan

Day 16 Tokushima, Japan

Arrives: 09:00 - Departs: 18:00

Born as a 16th century castle town whose remains now lay scattered near a park and museum, Tokushima is best known for its colourful summer dance festival, the Awa Odori. But it may be Mother Nature who garners the most attention. Surrounded by nearly 1000 metre-tall mountains that hint at the wonders that lie beyond, the city is the perfect gateway to the mesmerising Naruto whirlpools, the panoramic views from atop Mt. Bizan, and the spectacular gorges and vine bridges of Iya Valley. Whether you're entranced with the ways of the warrior, or under the spell of the extraordinary attractions, Tokushima offers exciting new experiences and unforgettable new adventures.

Overnight: Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 17 Shimizu (for Mt. Fuji), Japan

Arrives: 13:00 - Departs: 19:00

Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

Seat Selection & Frequent Flyer Points:
We do not arrange seat selection. It is essential to highlight that some airlines do not allow pre-selected seats. We strongly suggest you contact the airline directly with seating allocation requirements and/or arrive at the airport earlier to arrange your seating. While we do not add frequent flyer member details to bookings, you can do this directly with the airline once you have your flight information.

Dietary Requests
Meal options and availability differ between airlines and routes therefore not all dietary requests can be accommodated. If your flight includes meals we will select the most suitable option available based on the dietary requirements you have specified. All meal requests are subject to airline approval and are not guaranteed, therefore we recommend preparing for your flight by bringing appropriate food for yourself, as required.

Passport Validity:
Customers must provide valid passport details either at the time of purchase or no later than 90 days before the departure date. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of the booking. Customers will be responsible for any costs and fees incurred in this instance.

CRUISE
Embarkation / Disembarkation:
• Begins approximately 2 hours after docking.
• Due to security reasons, all guests must be on board 2 hours before sailing.
• Itineraries are subject to change at any time without notice.
• Check your specific sailing for exact departure and arrival times. All times are local to the port.
Please note: Strict Covid-19 terms may also apply regarding proof of insurance covering Covid-19 and/or vaccination. Please refer to the cruise lines’ terms and conditions for further information before boarding.

Cruise Loyalty Discounts:
Please note: Travellers must contact the cruise line directly upon receiving their travel documents in order to request any membership benefits they may be entitled to.

COACH TOUR
Meals:
For meals not included, the tour leader (when available) will offer assistance with reservations, suggestions and directions to local restaurants. It is your responsibility to notify us of any dietary requests/requirements.

Please note: We will do our best to meet your requests/requirements; however, we cannot guarantee that we will always be able to.

Luggage:
You will be responsible for all your personal belongings whilst on tour. You must carry your own luggage from the vehicle to the hotel room and back to the vehicle. The driver will assist with the uploading and unloading of bags from the vehicle.

OTHER
Mobility:
If you require wheelchair access please contact our friendly sales and service team to inquire on your behalf.

Fitness Level Required:
Adventure (and spontaneity) create some of the best travel memories. Bear in mind, your home schedules and timings might not be adhered to on tour - it's all part of the fun!

A relaxed level of fitness will be required. Expect a comfortable pace of touring with a focus on leisure time and gentle activity. This may include city tours, the ability to walk up and down small flights of stairs and gentle slopes. You will be responsible for your own luggage and have the ability to board all modes of transport without assistance.

Sightseeing:
Please note: If entry to a site is affected by changes in operating hours or public holiday closures, your itinerary, where possible, may be adjusted, or a similar activity will be offered in its place (subject to availability).

Shopping:
Shopping overseas can be a daunting and confusing experience, especially when there is a language barrier. Please be very cautious when foreign currencies and prices are involved. If paying by credit card, please pay close attention to the amount you are being charged and keep all your receipts.
Do not make any purchases you are not comfortable with or feel pressured into. If you are uncertain or need assistance with the language barrier, please seek assistance from your Tour Guide/Leader.
Please refer to our Terms and Conditions regarding shopping for further information.

Visas

Japan
Australian passport holders are visa-exempt for a stay of up to 90 days when travelling as a tourist.

South Korea
Australian passport holders can visit South Korea as tourists for stays of up to 90 days without applying for a K-ETA (or visa waiver) until 31 December 2025 and its expected this will be extended. Previously approved K-ETA applications will remain valid up to the granted expiry date. Australian passport holders travelling from 1 January 2026 may be required to apply for a K-ETA. Visit the official K-ETA website for more information.

Important:
• Please start arranging your visa three weeks before departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.
• Visa rules are subject to change. Please check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination/s you are visiting once you receive your travel documentation to ensure you have the most up to date information.
• It is your responsibility to be travel-ready and ensure that you are aware and comply with any destination or travel requirements, including the validity of all required travel documents.
• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.
• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.

Travel insurance

Embarking on your next trip is exciting, and while you hope the unexpected does not happen, it is best to be prepared. We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance when making your booking. Whether it’s a potential medical emergency, a flight cancellation, a delayed suitcase, or an unforeseen event, it's important to ensure you're adequately protected.
