17 Day Antarctica Expedition Cruise

  • Step foot on the great white continent
  • Discover Buenos Aires, Ushuaia & more
Includes Return International Flights

To the end of the world, and back again. This incredible 17-day package takes in some of the world’s most rugged, remote and spectacular terrain, uncovering the highlights of both Antarctica and Argentina. Wildlife lovers will be in their element searching for penguins, seals, whales and birds, while adventure-seekers will have the opportunity to participate in some truly magical experiences in a place that few will ever step foot in.

Beginning in Argentina, enjoy a sightseeing tour of historic Buenos Aires; take in Tierra del Fuego National Park; and explore Ushuaia, the world’s southernmost town. Then, board the Albatros Expeditions ‘Ocean Atlantic’ ship and cross the famed Drake Passage to arrive at the captivating South Shetland Islands. After exploring the landscapes and searching for wildlife, make your way to the Antarctic Peninsula, where you’ll enjoy outings to bays, islands and straits on Zodiac boats. The robust Zodiac boats allow those onboard to see Antarctica from a very different perspective and do incredible landings in some very wild places.

While onboard the Ocean Atlantic, you can also take the opportunity to snowshoe and go sea kayaking (not included), or simply relax on the ship, which is well-equipped with an onboard library, gym, observation deck, pool, sauna and even a lecture theatre where your expedition team will host lectures and presentations. With purpose-built stabilisers, powerful engines and a highly qualified crew on board, you can rest confidently knowing that the expedition vessel is well-equipped to handle all kinds of weather conditions.

This once-in-a-lifetime experience includes return international flights, five nights quality hotel accommodation on tour, a nine-night Antarctic Cruise, 28 meals, an English-speaking expedition team and plenty more.

The most spirited sailors consider Drake Passage a lifetime achievement, and you will complete the crossing twice!

Over the next two days, you will begin an Antarctic experience your ancestors only dreamed of. During these days, you will explore the sub-Antarctic islands of the South Shetland chain and be captivated by the landscapes you will encounter along the way. Weather permitting, your projected landfalls could include: King George Island; Deception Island, an extinct volcano; and Half Moon Island, with nesting Wilson's storm petrels and chinstrap penguins.

The itinerary and activities over the next few days depend on weather and ice conditions. The route and shore landings will be determined by the captain and expedition leader and communicated to customers through regularly scheduled briefings.

As the white shimmer of Antarctica looms on your horizon, the presence of wildlife multiples by tens of thousands with many species of lively penguins, inquisitive seals, nesting birds and the spray of marine mammals. Wildlife abounds along your projected route along the Antarctic Peninsula: leopard, fur and Weddell seals of Cuverville Island; humpback whales of Gerlache Strait; Paradise Bay; the dramatic Lemaire Channel's orcas and much more.

The itinerary and activities over the next few days depend on weather and ice conditions. The route and shore landings will be determined by the captain and expedition leader and communicated to customers through regularly scheduled briefings.

Please note: All outings and landings rely on weather, sea and ice conditions being favourable both for the ship to access the areas, as for the zodiacs and kayaks to manoeuvre under adequate conditions, ensuring the safety of all passengers and staff. For this reason, during moments of harsh weather and throughout the entire trip, ‘Ocean Atlantic’ has excellent public areas such as wellness/sauna, restaurant, bar and a library for passengers to spend their spare time. The ship is staffed by experts in the field who will also share great lectures along the way, ranging from exploration history to biology, geology, ice and wildlife.

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction in which he or she is guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves the group at the end of the tour, they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides in each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village, and offer information on the place visited on the bus, however they are not required to have specific knowledge on art, architecture, or history. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when particularly required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

If paying by credit card, please pay close attention to the amount you are being charged and keep all of your receipts.

Do not make any purchases you are not comfortable with or feel pressured into. If you are uncertain or need assistance with the language barrier, please seek assistance from your Tour Guide/Leader.

Please refer to our Terms and Conditions in regards to shopping for further information.

A tourist visa for Argentina is no longer required if travelling on an Australian Passport. Passengers must hold a passport valid at least six months on entry with one blank visa page. More information can be found at https://visasdirect.com.au/requirements

Please note: Customers choosing the stopover package will be required to pay a Chilean Reciprocity Fee of approximately $117 USD (subject to change) per person paid at airport customs in Chile. This fee is paid in US dollars and we recommend customers carry sufficient US dollars in cash to pay this fee as credit card facilities may be unavailable. This does not affect customers who do not choose to take the stopover package.

Please note: Passengers who are not Australian citizens must check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required. It is also important to note, some areas of employment such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations may have additional restrictions in applying for Visas. This may in turn affect the type of application required.

We are proud to offer a range of travel insurance products - please ask your Travel Consultant for more information.

Please note: In line with the Polar-cruise industry standard, all passengers are required to have mandatory Emergency Evacuation Insurance when cruising in Polar waters. For Antarctica, we recommend a minimum of USD $150,000 insurance coverage per guest, though USD $200,000 per guest is better.
