Please keep in mind that the provided cruise arrival and departure times are approximate and will be finalised upon receipt of your cruise tickets.

Dress Code
You’ll be glad to hear that the dress code on this ship is casual and there’s no need to pack formal attire for dinner. The weather in Norway can vary during your voyage, even during the day. We recommend you bring multiple layers of clothing, enabling you to adapt to the changes in temperature.

Clothing
• Warm underlayers and mid-layers: It is much better to wear a number of thin layers than just a few thick ones. The air trapped in between thin layers warms to your body’s temperature and acts as valuable insulation.
• Woollen sweater or fleece: This should go over your under and mid-layers.
• Wind and waterproof jacket and trousers: Outer layers should be wind and waterproof to adapt to the changing conditions on the Norwegian coast.
• Footwear: You'll need a pair of worn-in walking boots to use outdoors, as well as some casual shoes for use onboard.
• Cotton socks: Pack an extra pair or two in your rucksack if you’re going out snowmobiling or dog sledging and your feet become damp or wet.
• Swimwear: If you intend to use any sauna or hot tub facilities, you will need to pack a swimsuit.

Seasonal Packing
Spring (cover all bases)
As you are likely to encounter three seasons during one sailing in spring, it’s important to pack well and layer up. We advise bringing a woollen jumper, warm socks, a thick scarf, winter boots, warm, waterproof trousers and jacket, a hat and gloves.

Summer (sunny attire)
Summer weather along the coast can be changeable, so in addition to T-shirts, shorts and sandals, it’s wise to pack a warm jumper, light jacket (water-resistant), thin hat and gloves, and hiking shoes. You might also want to pack an eye mask, to help you sleep during the season of the Midnight sun.

Autumn (multiple layers)
While the sun may be shining, you can also expect cooler weather during the autumn months. Make sure to pack thin layers and some warm clothes – a woolly jumper, wind and waterproof jacket and trousers, a hat, gloves and light hiking boots.

Winter (wrap up warm)
It can get very cold along the coast during winter, so we recommend you pack base and mid layers, as well as a thick winter jacket, wool or fleece hat, balaclava/buff, gloves, woolly jumper, scarf, winter boots, and pull-on spikes (for sale on board). And remember the layer principle: it is much better to wear a number of thin layers than just a few thick ones. In very cold weather, it’s a good idea to wear two pairs of gloves – one thick pair of mitts (mitts don’t separate the fingers so they keep your hands warmer) and a thin pair of gloves underneath that allow you the use of your fingers. If you’re prone to cold extremities, you might also want to buy some carbon hand and foot warmers, which are available from most good outdoor shops.

Other important information

Hurtigruten Northern Lights Promise
The beautiful Aurora Borealis is Mother Nature’s ultimate light show. We know that no trip to the Arctic Circle is quite complete without experiencing this highlight at least once on your journey. If the Northern Lights do not appear on your voyage to Norway, you will receive another 6 or 7-day Classic Voyage FREE OF CHARGE. The promise is applicable on departures between 26 September and 31 March.

Terms & Conditions
A Northern Lights Occurrence is defined as a sighting from the ship which is recorded by the ship’s deck officers and which is announced to passengers on board. An occurrence can last anything from a few minutes to a matter of hours, and the ship’s decision as to whether the Northern Lights occurred is final.

We hope that you will experience seeing the Northern Lights whilst on your Classic Roundtrip Voyage, Voyage of Discovery or North Cape Express, although we cannot be held responsible if you don’t. We do, however, promise that in the event of there being no Northern Lights Occurrence as defined above on these voyages, we will invite you back to cruise with us once more, subject to the Terms and Conditions below.

You will be able to take the 7-day Classic Voyage North or the 6-day Classic Voyage South, departing the subsequent sailing season from 1 October to 31 March in an unspecified inside cabin with twin beds on a full board basis (you may upgrade to another grade of cabin subject to additional costs and availability). The offer cruise must be booked within 28 days from your return date. A choice of departure dates will be given, and the offer only apply once.

Exclusions
Offer excludes flights, transfers, all onboard expenses, excursions, and luggage handling. Offer does not apply to re-scheduled or cancelled cruises (including cruises where more than 50% of the sailing has been cancelled). Bookings are non-transferable, non-changeable, have no cash value and no refund can be claimed. Hurtigruten reserves the right to withdraw or amended the offer at any time. Please check at the time of booking as to current status of offer.

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.
Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Finland & Norway
In winter, much of Finland & Norway usually transforms into a snow-clad paradise. This means ideal opportunities for exciting activities in the snowy landscape. The weather and temperatures vary a lot in this long country. Along the coast temperatures usually stay around 0°C. Inland, the temperatures are usually lower and might reach -10°C to -20°C. A few places you can even experience a chilling -40°C! Winter nights are long in all of Norway, and from the middle of November until the end of January, the sun doesn’t rise at all in parts of Northern Norway. However, the northern lights might dance above your head. They are most commonly seen in the north, but can on rare occasions be spotted all over Norway. October to March are the best months if you want to see this magical light show. In southern Norway, you can expect between six and eight hours of daylight during the winter months.

Gratuities (tips) are not included in the tour price for services of the tour leader (when available) and driver throughout the tour. Tipping is optional and at the customer's discretion. Tipping for all services provided on tour is always a matter of personal discretion, however, please be aware that tipping is considered by many locals to be a part of their normal remuneration and they may approach you for payment and there is no need to be intimidated by the request.

Cruise
It is not common practice to tip on Hurtigruten Coastal Express ships, but if you feel that crew members should be rewarded for providing exceptional service, tip boxes are placed in the restaurant together with envelopes.

If paying by credit card, please pay close attention to the amount you are being charged and keep all your receipts. Do not make any purchases you are not comfortable with or feel pressured into. If you are uncertain or need assistance with the language barrier, please seek assistance from your Tour Guide/Leader. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions regarding shopping for further information.

Visas

A tourist visa is generally not required in Europe for stays of up to 90 days when travelling on an Australian passport.

Important:
• Please start arranging your visa three weeks before departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.
• Visa rules may have changed since Covid-19. Some countries and airlines may require you to obtain an additional visa before arrival. Please check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination you're entering.

Please note:
• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.
• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.

Travel insurance

Embarking on your next trip is exciting, and while you hope the unexpected does not happen, it is best to be prepared. We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance when making your booking. Whether it’s a potential medical emergency, a flight cancellation, a delayed suitcase, or an unforeseen event, it's important to ensure you're adequately protected. For more information or advice visit https://www.tripadeal.com.au/travel-insurance
