Stay at the 4.5 star Bruny Island Lodge and enjoy delicious meals and trail snacks to fuel you up for your daily adventures. Look out for the Bruny White Wallaby and birds such as penguins, swift parrots and forty-spotted pardalotes. Discover dolerite rock formations at Miles Beach; take in the views from Mount Bleak and Mount Mangana; visit the Big and Little Lagoon along the coastline; walk to the Apex of Mars Bluff, the Fluted Cape Circuit and the Cape Queen; Elizabeth Track; and spend time at the Lighthouse at Cape Bruny. ITINERARY

Today, meet with the tour representative and depart from Hotel Grand Chancellor, Hobart at 8am sharp. You will catch the morning ferry from Kettering across to North Bruny. Stop at Bruny Island Cheese Company for a coffee and trip briefing. The Bruny Island Beer Company also reside here so you can grab some local brews for your stay also. Continue south to the Cape Queen Elizabeth Track where the walk will start. The first section of the trail is flat and heads straight to the coast. Walk past the aptly named Big Lagoon and Little Lagoon where you can spot lots of water birds and then head on to a long stretch of coastline.

Depending on the tides, you may walk along the beach or walk to the apex of Mars Bluff. From the top of the Bluff, there are fantastic views of The Neck and the Fluted Capes. The trail then heads through coastal dunes to Miles Beach. Discover the magnificent dolerite rock formations and head along to Cape Queen Elizabeth through an area of beautiful coastal heath. Again, be greeted by great views of Adventure Bay and the Capes. Afterwards, head back to the vehicle via the same track or beach depending on tide.

After the walk, take time and stop at the neck where it is just a short walk up the stairs to get enjoy more views of South Bruny and the isthmus that connects it to North Bruny. If you are lucky enough, you may even spot some of the fairy penguins on the beach below. Continue on to your accommodation, unpack and relax among the magnificent surrounds of Bruny Island Lodge.

The Fluted Cape circuit can be walked in either direction, however, it is best to walk it in an anti-clockwise direction. Doing this allows for a gentle slope at the beginning and return walk back from the Cape with dramatic views.

The trail starts with a beautiful flat walk along an idyllic beach with crystal clear waters and white sand. Head into a eucalyptus forest followed by a section of a Sheoak forest before arrival at Grass Point. From Grass Point, walk to the summit of Fluted Capes and enjoy fabulous views of the Cape’s spectacular dolerite cliffs and Penguin Island. Cape Pillar can be seen on the Tasman Peninsula in the distance.

Have lunch on the trail and return back via the inland trail with a gentle descent. Keep your eye out for a myriad of wildlife, including the beautiful Bennetts wallabies and Bruny Island’s unique white wallaby.

After the Fluted Cape Walk, head to Mt. Mangana just near Adventure Bay. Mt. Mangana is the highest peak on Bruny. The trail is really interesting as it meanders through the many and varied species of flora and fauna which make Bruny Island so incredible and unique.

Today we head out on the Peninsula to walk the Labillardiere Peninsula circuit. Walk the trail in a clockwise direction to enjoy great views of Tasmania’s southern mountain range.

At the halfway point, there is short but steep climb to Mount Bleak which also marks the highest point of the track. See Partridge Island, home to the forty-spotted Pardalote.

Head back to the coast and follow the beach before heading back inland through an area rich with bird life. You will likely spot magnificent sea eagles, bronze-cuckoos and majestic black cockatoos.

Make your way back to the lodge and finish today with an afternoon visit to the nearby Lighthouse at Cape Bruny.

Pack up and head out for the last time into South Bruny National Park. On this walk, the first few kilometres are along the white sand of Cloudy Beach.

Follow a small creek inland and head up through heathland to East Cloudy Head. Enjoy amazing views along the South coast of Bruny Island to The Friars, and to the west and north-west over South Bruny to the Southern ranges and Mt Wellington. Return to the vehicle via the same route and head back to catch the afternoon ferry to the mainland.

The tour will conclude in Hobart. You can be dropped at Hobart airport or our departure point at the Hotel Grand Chancellor.

ABOUT THE ACCOMMODATION: BRUNY ISLAND LODGE
 
This character-filled timber cottage has five bedrooms and four bathrooms, five toilets and huge kitchen. There is a well-appointed bar and games room, with a central cast iron fireplace for cooler months and the option to roll back the walls to take in the magnificent scenery during summer.

A timber deck wraps around the building and there are 3 barbecues positioned around the house along with an outdoor fireplace.

LOCATION:
Bruny Island Lodge is located at the southern end of Bruny Island. The Lodge provides private access to kilometres of pristine coastline, and plenty of canoes, kayaks and bicycles to explore it. The sheltered waters of Oyster Cove, just a few hundred metres from the Lodge’s front door, are perfect for fishing, paddling or water-based activities.

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
 
Tour Guide: 
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction in which he or she is guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves the group at the end of the tour, they do not travel with the group. 
 
Tour Leader: 
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides in each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village, and offer information on the place visited on the bus, however they are not required to have specific knowledge on art, architecture, or history. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and if caught doing so, can be fined.
