After breakfast, be transferred to Venice Tronchetto, where you will take a boat to San Marco Square for a half day guided tour of Venice (2 hours).

The tour begins from the magnificent Piazza San Marco (St Mark’s Square), one of the most beautiful squares in the world and the centre of Venetian life. The Basilica of San Marco (St Mark’s Basilica) and the Palazzo Ducale (Doge’s Palace) stand around the square (entrance not included). The church was built to house the body of St. Marc, transported from Alexandria in 828AD. Inside the basilica, take time to admire the beautiful decorations and the magnificent Byzantine mosaics (entrance not included). The tour will then continue onwards to Rialto Bridge, an icon of the city.

Upon conclusion of the tour, enjoy the afternoon at leisure.

Overnight: Hotel Lugano Torretta or similar, Venice

Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast and a morning at leisure, be transferred to the cruise terminal to embark on a wondrous 12-night Mediterranean cruise aboard the ‘MSC Lirica’. The cruise departs at 4:30pm.

Overnight: MSC Cruises - ‘MSC Lirica’ ship

Meals included: Breakfast;Dinner

Dock for the afternoon in Bari. The city is designed with an entrancing jumble of streets that call out to be explored. Situated at the far end of Corso Cavour, Bari’s labyrinth of seemingly endless passages, weaving through courtyards and under arches, were originally designed to spare the inhabitants from the wind and throw invaders into a state of confusion. Here, life is very much lived outdoors, and on summer evenings it’s full of people sitting outside their kitchen doors.

The best way to arrive in Heraklion is by sea - it’s the traditional approach and is still the one that shows the city in its best light. As you approach, see Mount Yioúhtas rising behind, the heights of the Psilorítis Range to the west, the great fortress guarding the harbour entrance and the city walls encircling and dominating the oldest part of town. Heraklion has superb fortifications, a fine market and atmospheric old alleys to visit when you alight from your cruise.

Haifa, a large port in northern Israel, is the perfect setting off point for excursions of great interest, especially if you would like to learn more about three of the largest religions in the world. In Israel, the three Religions of the Book, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, encounter each other at every angle.

MSC Cruises offers a short excursion to locations described in the Bible (not included). After visiting places such as Bethlehem, Nazareth, Cana and Jerusalem, you will be able to truthfully say that you have tread on the same ground as the prophets, the disciples of Jesus and the Arab conquerors.

Or, if you are more interested in history and are not afraid to get a little tired, an excursion to Masada (not included), an ancient fortification set atop an isolated rock plateau. While docked at Haifa during your cruise, you will also get the chance to admire Israel’s nature at its most extreme - a short distance from Masada sits a landlocked lake that is so salty it has been nicknamed the Dead Sea.

Overnight: MSC Cruises - ‘MSC Lirica’ ship

Meals included: Breakfast;Lunch;Dinner

Enjoy another day docked in Haifa. Spend today exploring at leisure or alternatively take part in a shore excursion to the animated city of Tel Aviv (not included). Tel Aviv is considered the most modern city in Israel, not just for its skyscrapers but also for its way of life.

Overnight: MSC Cruises - ‘MSC Lirica’ ship

Meals included: Breakfast;Lunch;Dinner

This morning, arrive at the port of Limassol, Cyprus, which boasts 4000 years of history. Admire the centre and the medieval castle, part of a constellation of nine forts guarding the whole island, which now hosts a museum with exhibits dating from the 5th to the 19th century. Along the seafront, pines, cypresses and eucalyptuses brim over the public gardens which house a small zoo (entrance not included).

Overnight: MSC Cruises - ‘MSC Lirica’ ship

Meals included: Breakfast;Lunch;Dinner

Dock today on the island of Rhodes in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, one of the finest medieval walled cities you could ever hope to see. Its northernmost headland is straddled by Rhodes Town, the largest town on the island, in full view of Turkey less than 20km north.

A cruise excursion (not included) to Rhodes will recall one of the lost Seven Wonders of the Ancient World: The Colossus, an ancient statue of Apollo erected to commemorate the 305 BC siege, which supposedly straddled the entrance to Mandhráki Harbour.

Overnight: MSC Cruises - ‘MSC Lirica’ ship

Meals included: Breakfast;Lunch;Dinner

Mykonos is the most iconic island of the Cyclades. In summer, most people head to the beach during the day, so early morning or late afternoon are the best times to explore the maze of narrow streets. The labyrinthine design was supposed to confuse the pirates who plagued Mykonos in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and it has the same effect on today’s visitors. When exploring the Island, getting lost in its convoluted streets and alleys is half the fun.

A walled, sea-battered city lying at the foot of a grizzled mountain, Dubrovnik is Croatia’s most popular cruise destination, and it’s easy to see why. The current palace is a masterpiece of serene proportion, fringed by an ornate arcaded loggia held up by columns with delicately carved capitals. Entered via a narrow passageway is the fourteenth century Franciscan monastery, whose late Romanesque cloister is decorated with rows of double arches topped by a confusion of human heads and fantastic animals.

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction in which he or she is guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves the group at the end of the tour, they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides in each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village, and offer information on the place visited on the bus, however they are not required to have specific knowledge on art, architecture, or history. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when particularly required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.
