Itinerary - 1

Today depart from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide or Perth for Port Louis, Mauritius. Fly with Air Mauritius, Virgin Australia or Cathay Pacific to name a few (subject to availability). Please note: customers from Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide will fly via Perth. Upon arrival into Mauritius, an airline representative will coordinate your transfers and accommodation.

Today depart Mauritius for Antananarivo, Madagascar. Upon arrival in Antananarivo, you will be met by a tour representative who will transfer you to the hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

After breakfast begin the drive south to the city of Antsirabe. Sitting at 1500m above sea level, Antsirabe is the third largest city in Madagascar and is known for its cooler climate and abundance of rickshaws. On the way stop at Ambatolampy, which is a small town mainly known for its forging and foundry industries, as well as its handmade production of aluminium kitchen utensils. Arrive in Antsirabe around midday and after lunch (not included) enjoy a city tour by rickshaw. You will then be transferred to the hotel.

After breakfast enjoy a short guided tour to discover the city with its wide boulevards and restored colonial architecture. After the tour travel south to the small town of Ranomafana which sits on the edge of Ranomafana National Park. With more than 41,600 hectares of tropical rainforest, Ranomafana National Park is home to several rare species of flora and fauna including the Golden Bamboo Lemur, the Greater Bamboo Lemur, Black and White Ruffed Lemur and Milne-Edwards Sifaka, and over 130 species of frogs.

On the way to Ranomafana enjoy a short stop at the town of Ambositra, famous for woodcraft and traditional art made of wood. Visit some of the local shops then continue onwards towards the south-eastern region of Madagascar with a late afternoon arrival in the village of Ranomafana.

This morning after breakfast enjoy an expedition into the Ranomafana National Park to discover the best of the abundant wildlife species. Ranomafana is one of the most important wildlife sites and among the best rainforest national parks in the region. The park is part of the eastern corridor of the island which is the best part to spot different endemic species to the island. Please note this day will involve 3-4 hours of medium grade walking.

The highlight of the expedition is to spot the Golden Bamboo Lemur, which was once thought to be extinct. Other species of lemurs can also be seen in the forest such as the Broad Nosed Bamboo Lemurs, Black and White Ruffed Lemur and the Milne-Edwards Sifaka. Remember to birdwatch while walking, as the forest is a good place to spot birds such as the Blue Coua, Pitta-like Ground Roller, Velvet Asity and some species of Vangas. Invertebrates can also be found on the forest floor along with the Red Forest Rat, Chameleons and many varieties of frogs. The rainforest also shelters many flora diversities and large medicinal plants. After the expedition, you will transfer back to the hotel for an evening of leisure.

After breakfast, leave Ranomafana and continue travelling to the town of Ranohira on the edge of Isalo National Park. On the way stop in the town of Ambalavao. There you will visit the Antemoro local paper factory which allows visitors to learn more about the famous ‘Antemoro paper’.

Afterwards, visit a silk workshop to learn about the spinning and weaving of wild silk using traditional methods. After Ambalavao continue southwards with a stop at Anja Park for a wildlife expedition. Here you will have a chance to see Ring-Tailed Lemurs along with some other species. Later in the afternoon you will arrive at the hotel in Ranohira.

Today enjoy a full day trekking expedition into the Isalo National Park. This is one of the most popular and visited national parks in Madagascar, with astonishing landscapes of massive uniform rock formations dating back to the Jurassic era, and amazing unique wildlife species, a visit to this national park is a must. The visit begins with a morning walk through the park's forests and canyons. On the way you will hopefully see many lemurs such as the Ring-Tailed Lemur and Red-Fronted Brown Lemur. It is also a good spot for bird watching as it is the home of the Benson's Rock Thrush.

After the expedition you will continue walking through the canyons until you reach a waterfall with black and blue swimming pools. Lunch will be at a local campsite (not included, arranged through the hotel prior to departure) then you will transfer back to the hotel after a visit to a local museum. Late in the afternoon drive to ‘The Window of Isalo’, one of the famous sandstone formations in the park, to enjoy a picture perfect sunset. Please note: this day will involve 2-4 hours of medium grade walking.

After breakfast, head onwards to the city of Toliara, passing through the village of Ilakaka which is famous for its sapphire mines and Zombitse forest. Arrive in Toliara after approximately a 4 hour drive. Upon arrival enjoy a short visit to the Antsokay Arboretum to learn about the specific flora of the region. After lunch (not included) continue the drive to the quiet coastal beach village of Ifaty, situated 30km north of Toliara.

Overnight: Le Paradisier or similar, Ifaty

Start today with an early morning expedition into the nearby spiny forests. Baobab trees and succulents can be seen along the main trail. Bird watch while you walk as this forest is a great spot to hopefully locate the Long-Tailed Ground Roller, Sub-Desert Mesite and other interesting bird species including the Green Capped Coua. Geckos and Warty Chameleons can also be spotted in the forest. After the expedition you will return to the hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

This morning will be spent at leisure. After checkout you will be driven to Toliara Airport to board your flight back to Antananarivo (approx. 1.25 hours). Upon arrival in Antananarivo, you will be met and transferred to the hotel.

After breakfast travel to Andasibe-Mantadia National Park. This park is known for its extraordinary animal diversity with 15 mammal species and more than 100 types of birds like the Madagascar Yellowbrow, Madagascar Baza, Madagascar Wagtail and the Madagascar Serpent Eagle. There will also be the opportunity to spot over 80 amphibians and 50 reptile species, amongst them the biggest chameleon of the island, the Boa Manditra and many Leaf-Tailed Geckos. There are also endemic fish swimming in the small rivers and hundreds of insects including some extraordinary large and colourful butterflies. 

After an approximately 4 hour drive from Antananarivo with a stop on the way you will arrive at the hotel on the edge of the national park. Enjoy an afternoon visit to the Vakona Private Reserve and then an evening guided walk along the road to hopefully spot the Mouse Lemur, Eastern Wooly Lemur and other animals native to this park.

After breakfast, begin a day expedition to the Mantadia side of the national park. Here you will hopefully have the chance to see species such as the Diademed Sifaka, Eastern Grey Bamboo Lemur and the Black and White Ruffed Lemur. Mantadia National Park is also home to ground-dwelling birds such as the Pitta-like Ground Roller, Short Legged Ground Roller, Blue Coua and Paradise Fly Catcher to name a few. After a picnic lunch (not included, arranged through the lodge prior to departure) you will drive, then walk to a nearby natural pool, hopefully spotting more animals along the way. 

After todays expedition, you will drive back to the hotel for a short break then go for an evening walk to the community run forest reserve, V.O.I.M.M.A. You may see animals such as the Brookesia, Leaf-Tailed Gecko and Parson’s Chameleon during the visit.

Overnight: Vakona Forest Lodge or similar, Andasibe-Mantadia National Park

This morning after breakfast, enjoy another expedition into the forest in the Analamazaotra Special Reserve. This reserve is the home of the Indri, the largest living lemur, famous for its haunting call and fascinating appearance. Others species of lemur also share the forest with the Indri such as the Common Brown Lemur, Diademed Sifaka and the Eastern Woolly Lemur. After the expedition head back to the hotel for lunch (not included), then drive back to Antananarivo for your final night in Madagascar.

Today after breakfast and check out enjoy a guided morning tour to the upper city to discover the many buildings built during the colonial period, as well as the Queen’s Palace. Have lunch at a local restaurant (not included) then transfer back to the hotel where you will have day use of your room until your transfer to the airport in the late afternoon for your flight to the beautiful island nation of Mauritius.

Upon arrival in the nation's capital of Port Louis, you will be met and transferred to the resort in Flic-en-Flac, where you will enjoy four nights at Anelia Resort & Spa and a chance to explore this beautiful and culturally diverse island at leisure.

Flic-en-Flac is a small seaside town on the western part of the island of Mauritius in the district of Rivière Noire (Black River). The town has a beautiful white sandy beach and it’s one of the longest on the island. The beach attracts local families and visitors alike due to its crystal clear lagoon which is protected by the surrounding coral reefs. The beach provides scenic views over the Indian Ocean horizon and of Le Morne Brabant Peninsula located in the south west of Mauritius. The Casela Bird Park is also located near Flic-en-Flac and features orchids, over 140 species of birds and the endemic and endangered rare pink pigeon.

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide: 
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction in which he or she is guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves the group at the end of the tour, they do not travel with the group. 
 
Tour Leader: 
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides in each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village, and offer information on the place visited on the bus, however they are not required to have specific knowledge on art, architecture, or history. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and if caught doing so, can be fined. 
 
Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when particularly required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

Luggage:
You will be responsible for all your personal belongings whilst on the tour. With regards to luggage, you must carry your own luggage from the coach to the hotel room and back to the coach. The driver will assist with the uploading and off-loading of the luggage from the coach.

Madagascar:
Madagascar has a warm tropical climate. The dry season runs from April to November. Temperatures in this season average high’s of 27°C and low’s of 19°C.
 
Sightseeing:
Please note: In the event entrance to a site is affected by changes in operating hours or public holiday closures, your itinerary will be adjusted to ensure you do not miss out on the experience. 
 
Shopping:
Shopping overseas can be a daunting and confusing experience, especially when there is a language barrier. Please be very cautious when foreign currencies and prices are involved.  If paying by credit card, please pay close attention to the amount you are being charged and keep all of your receipts. Do not make any purchases you are not comfortable with or feel pressured into. If you are uncertain or need assistance with the language barrier, please seek assistance from your Tour Guide/Leader. Madagascar:


A tourist visa is a strict requirement when travelling to Madagascar on an Australian passport. The Short Stay (up to 30 days) tourist visa is $42 AUD (subject to change) and can be acquired on arrival into Madagascar.

 

A valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate is requested on arrival in Madagascar for all travellers arriving from a yellow fever infected area/country. The World Health Organisation (WHO) provides a list of countries where yellow fever is endemic. http://www.who.int/ith/diseases/yf/en/

 

Mauritius: 
A tourist visa is not required when travelling to Mauritius on an Australian passport. The Mauritian government provides visas on arrival free of charge to Australian passport holders. Visa and other entry and exit conditions (such as currency, customs and quarantine regulations) can change at short notice. Contact the nearest Embassy or Consulate of Mauritius prior to departure for the most up to date information. 

Immigration officials at port of entry require all visitors to Mauritius to provide accommodation details. Failure to do so may result in denial of entry to Mauritius.

If you are arriving in Mauritius from a country known to have malaria, you will receive a follow-up visit from the Mauritian Health Department and will be required to undertake a blood test to check for the malaria-causing parasite. If you are arriving from a country where yellow fever is endemic, evidence of a yellow fever vaccination is required.
 
Please note: Passengers who are not Australian citizens must check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required. It is also important to note, some areas of employment such a journalism, government authorities and charity organisations may have additional restrictions in applying for Visas. This may in turn affect the type of application required.

This includes booking changes requested by you, including but not limited to those changes requiring an airline ticket or a Purchase Confirmation reissue.

 

·       1st Change - $100.00 per person + any additional charges applied by the airline/cruise company/accommodation/other travel provider.

·       2nd Change - $150.00 per person + any additional charges applied by the airline/cruise company/accommodation/other travel provider.

·       Subsequent changes - $250.00 per person + any additional charges applied by the airline/cruise company/accommodation/other travel provider.

·       Changes within 30 days of departure $350.00 person + any additional charges applied by the airline/cruise company/accommodation/other travel provider.

·       Changes within 14 days of departure $500.00 per person + any additional charges applied by the airline/cruise company/accommodation/other travel provider.

 

Name Changes Due To Passenger Error
·       If the incorrect name has been advised to TripADeal, charges of $150.00 per person + any additional charges applied by the airline/cruise company/accommodation/other travel provider.
