Day 5 San Juan, Puerto Rico

Although its earliest settlers left few clues, it’s known that the archipelago of Puerto Rico was populated by the Taino people at the time Columbus arrived here during his second visit to the New World in 1493. It would remain under Spanish control for four centuries. Keeping it that way meant building a flurry of forts around its shores to ward off interest from other European powers. Among them are Fort San Cristobal, the immense defensive fortification completed in 1783 and San Felipe del Morro, a 16th-century citadel with well-preserved barracks, tunnels and dungeons.

You also can’t help but admire the duck egg blue and white fortified palace of La Fortaleza. These, together with San Juan de la Cruz (El Canuelo) and a large portion of the original San Juan City Wall, have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site collectively known as Old San Juan.

You’ll almost certainly want to stroll amidst another of Puerto Rico’s most postcard-friendly faces too, the atmospheric Old Town. In this 465-year-old residential and commercial neighbourhood, the buildings’ facades are painted in a rainbow of bright colours, adorned with ornate wrought iron lampposts and balconies. Exploring San Juan offers you all sorts of ways to fall under Puerto Rico’s spell. You might admire the fabulous cathedral or contemplate the works this beautiful archipelago has inspired at the vast, modern Museo de Arte with collections from both local and international artists, a 400-seat theatre and an adjoining sculpture garden.

Day 6 St John's, Antigua

Nestled alongside the turquoise waters of northeast Antigua, the capital of St John’s is a picturesque setting to begin your Antiguan experience. A popular and bustling port town, St John’s is dappled with lush greenery and is home to more white sandy beaches than you could imagine.

You could spend an afternoon strolling the historical streets of the town and gaze up at all the ancient architecture and imposing 18th century fortifications. Or perhaps you’d rather grab a refreshing cocktail as you relax on a sun lounger, looking out onto the rich blue hues of the Caribbean Sea?

Find plenty of wonderful ways to spend your time here. Perhaps venture across the island to explore the historical remnants of British colonialism, lose yourself snorkelling in the underwater coral wonderlands along the coast, or simply take in the beautiful flora and fauna that thrive on this natural Caribbean masterpiece.

Cunard's Queen Elizabeth

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 7 Castries, St Lucia

As with many of the Caribbean islands, St Lucia has a European colonial history. The French settled here in the mid-17th century, and Castries itself was founded in 1650.

Its original name was Carenage, which translates to ‘careening’, or ‘beaching’, relating to the ships brought ashore here. Elements of French influence can be seen throughout Castries, from its wonderful fusion food to colonial style architecture. Not to mention the French-based Creole language that you’ll hear as you explore.

With its colonial past, Castries is home to some important, historical landmarks and rewarding lookout points like the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception (Cathedral). Found in the centre of three streets – Peynier, Micoud, and Laborie Street, this cathedral is the largest in the Caribbean. The building that stands today was erected in the 1890s, however prior to this, churches have stood in the same spot since the late 18th century. The cathedral has long been a central focal point in Castries and is attended by locals and visitors alike during mass. Colourful frescos adorn the interior, and bright, booming choir voices fill the space with ease.

Cunard's Queen Elizabeth

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 8 Bridgetown, Barbados

A town steeped in history, surrounded by an abundance of natural beauty with plenty to see and do, Bridgetown is the perfect location to enjoy a generous helping of Caribbean charm and culture.

Sitting on the southwestern side of the island of Barbados, Bridgetown is a lively and bustling gateway to the wider treasures the island holds. From sun-kissed beaches, underground caverns and glass-like lagoons, to emerald jungles and vast historic plantations, Barbados is a paradise just waiting to be explored.

The island of Barbados gets its name from the Bearded Fig Tree, which was once found in abundance across the island. The capital city, Bridgetown, is home to a charming combination of traditional colonial buildings and rich Caribbean vibrancy and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011.

One of the four constituents of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Sint Maarten is certainly unique. It’s the southern part of one island, with the northern part being French – Saint Martin. While there is no border control, the two regions are governed independently.

Philipsburg is the capital of Dutch Sint Maarten and is where you’ll dock on a visit to the island. On approach, straight away you’ll be met with idyllic island vistas. Lush green hillsides, bustling shops and restaurants and, of course, beautiful turquoise Caribbean waters lapping at the shore.

Found in the middle of the south coast, Road Town is on the island of Tortola which, while the largest of the British Virgin Islands, is only 56km square. It’s an island peppered with calm bays and hidden coves, that have attracted travellers, sailors and yachtsmen for many centuries. Everywhere, you'll see reminders of the island’s colonial past with Dutch and English style architecture in the form of plantations, churches and the old Post Office.

Please note: Some areas may be inaccessible to wheelchairs or mobility scooters, with personal walking sticks and other aids required should they be needed. Although some assistance may be available, every traveller should be self-reliant during all aspects of their travel.

Please note: It is expected that every traveller must be self-reliant and able to undertake all aspects of their own travel. Please speak to your booking agent about your personal circumstances and any assistance requirements to ensure this tour is right for you.
Please note: If you have any concerns, please consult your healthcare provider prior to purchase/travel.

Yellow Fever:
A valid international certificate of vaccination against Yellow Fever is required in many countries. You may need to present this on arrival at the airport or border crossing. Some countries will refuse entry if you are unable to present your certificate. It's also common for your home country to request a Yellow Fever certificate upon arrival. You must check with your doctor well before leaving home about the Yellow Fever requirements for the countries you'll be visiting.

Sightseeing:
Please note: If entry to a site is affected by changes in operating hours or public holiday closures, your itinerary, where possible, may be adjusted, or a similar activity will be offered in its place (subject to availability).

Shopping:
Shopping overseas can be a daunting and confusing experience, especially when there is a language barrier. Please be very cautious when foreign currencies and prices are involved. If paying by credit card, please pay close attention to the amount you are being charged and keep all your receipts.
Do not make any purchases you are not comfortable with or feel pressured into. If you are uncertain or need assistance with the language barrier, please seek assistance from your Tour Guide/Leader.
Please refer to our Terms and Conditions regarding shopping for further information.

Passport Validity:
Customers must provide valid passport details either at the time of purchase or no later than 45 days before the departure date. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of the booking. Customers will be responsible for any costs and fees incurred in this instance.

• It is your responsibility to be travel-ready and ensure that you are aware and comply with any destination or travel requirements, including the validity of all required travel documents.
• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.
• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.
