Day 2 Vancouver, Canada

Enjoy a day at leisure in Vancouver, Canada.

It seems unlikely that a character named "Gassy Jack" Deighton would be responsible for one of the most beautiful cities on the continent. But that's history for you.

During the gold rush, Gassy Jack saw a chance to make money from the hordes of miners on their way to the Yukon. The saloon he built became the focus of the shanty town known as Gastown. From that ragtag group of shacks, modern Vancouver was born. The provincial government persuaded settlers to change the town's name to Vancouver after Captain George Vancouver, who sailed the region's waters in 1792.

Vancouver is a cosmopolitan place with a European feel and a personality all its own. It's a community with a rich ethnic mix - including one of the largest Chinatowns in North America - and stunningly beautiful parks.

Overnight: Hotel Belmont Vancouver MGallery or similar, Vancouver, Canada

Day 3 Begin 7-Night Alaska Inside Passage Cruise - Vancouver, Canada

Depart: 16:00

At the appropriate time, make your own way to the Vancouver Cruise Terminal to begin your 7-night Inside Passage Cruise.

Over the next 7 days you will dock in quaint old-time towns made famous during the gold rush, like Skagway; see the Indigenous totems that adorn Ketchikan, and stop in Juneau, a town surrounded by forests, mountains and glaciers. Enjoy scenic cruising through Endicott Arm & Dawes Glacier or Glacier Bay in the Inside Passage (subject to departure date selected). Have binoculars and cameras ready; abundant wildlife in the area means you may spot bears, humpback whales, orcas and plenty of birdlife before returning to Vancouver.

Overnight: Princess Cruises - Emerald Princess

Day 5 Juneau, Alaska

Arrive: 13:00 - Depart: 21:00

In 1880, it was slow going for Joe Juneau and Richard Harris as they searched for gold with the help of Native guides. After climbing mountains, forging streams and facing countless difficulties, they found nuggets "as large as beans."

From their discovery came three of the largest gold mines in the world. By the end of World War II, more than $150 million in gold had been mined. Eventually, the mines closed, but the town Joe Juneau founded became the capital of Alaska, and the business of government replaced the business of gold.

Today, Juneau is famous not only for its gold and government but also for its breathtakingly beautiful glaciers and stunning views of both water and mountains.

Overnight: Princess Cruises - Emerald Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 6 Skagway, Alaska

Arrive: 07:00 - Depart: 20:00

Skagway was the gateway to the goldfields for the thousands who flocked to Alaska and the Yukon, hoping to strike it rich. Skagway may have boasted the shortest route to the Klondike, but it wasn't the easiest.

Over 100 years ago, the White Pass route through the Coast Mountains and the shorter but steeper Chilkoot Trail were used by countless stampeders. Many a would-be miner perished on the treacherous Chilkoot Trail.

The gold rush was a boon. By 1898, Skagway was Alaska's largest town, with a population of about 20,000. Hotels, saloons, dance halls and gambling houses prospered. But when the gold yield dwindled in 1900, so did the population as miners quickly shifted to new finds in Nome.

Today, Skagway has approximately 1,200 residents. It still retains the flavour of the Gold Rush era.

Overnight: Princess Cruises - Emerald Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 7 Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier or Glacier Bay (Scenic Cruising), Alaska

Endicott Arm & Dawes Glacier (Scenic Cruising):

Arrive: 05:00 - Depart: 11:00

This narrow fjord is located approximately 80 kilometres southeast of Juneau and is part of the Tracy Arm-Fords Terror Wilderness area. The breathtaking Endicott Arm extends over 48 kilometres long, with nearly one-fifth of its area covered in ice. At the head of the fjord, tidewater glaciers, such as the Dawes Glacier, regularly expel enormous chunks of ice into the waters below in a magnificent process known as calving. During the summer, icebergs float along the surface of the glistening water in various sizes, from just a few inches up to three stories wide.

Protected within the Tongass National Forest, Endicott Arm is a haven for wildlife. Black and brown bears, deer, wolves, harbour seals, mountain goats and a variety of seabirds have been spotted in the area.

As you glide through the pristine fjord, you'll first pass by a lush forest where several beautiful waterfalls cascade down, and then you'll be treated to views of snow-capped mountains and blue-tinged glaciers.

Glacier Bay National Park (Scenic Cruising) - Select Departures:

Arrive: 06:00 - Depart: 15:00

Princess is one of a select few cruise lines permitted to cruise the pristine waters of Glacier Bay. Just west of Juneau, this breathtaking national park and preserve boasts some of the world's most spectacular tidewater glaciers, such as Margerie Glacier, which often drops colossal chunks of ice into the sea. Not surprisingly, Glacier Bay National Park and its epic ice giants are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising Alaska's magnificent park system.

During your scenic cruise, friendly Park Rangers will join the ship to share their knowledge of this remarkable place and host a fun Junior Ranger program for kids. They may even help you identify Glacier Bay's abundant wildlife, including humpback whales, sea otters, porpoises, harbour seals, black bears, mountain goats, bald eagles and large colonies of seabirds.

Take in the awe-inspiring scenery as you enjoy an unforgettable day of sailing through this dazzling park, where you'll glide along emerald waters and past calving icebergs and can breathe in the crisp, fresh air to your heart's content.

Please note:
• If you depart on the 30th of May 2026 or 05th September 2026, you will visit Glacier Bay National Park on this day instead of Endicott Arm & Dawes Glacier.
• Endicott Arm, Dawes Glacier and Glacier Bay National Park are scenic cruising destinations. Your ship will not dock on this day of the itinerary.

Overnight: Princess Cruises - Emerald Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 8 Ketchikan, Alaska

Arrive: 08:00 - Depart: 18:00

Ketchikan is known as Alaska's "First City" because it's the first major community travellers visit as they journey north. Located on an island, Ketchikan began life as an Indian fishing camp. The name Ketchikan comes from a Tlingit phrase that means "eagle with spread-out wings," a reference to a waterfall near town.

In the early 1900s, when gold was Alaska's claim to fame, fishing and timber industries were established in Ketchikan. The growth of these industries helped make this Inside Passage port into Alaska's fourth-largest city.

Visitors to Ketchikan will be intrigued by its rich Native heritage, which includes the world's oldest collection of totem poles at Totem Heritage Center. The Haida, Tlingit and Tsimshian are all a part of the city's colourful history. Ketchikan, with its abundance of salmon, is also a sport-fishing paradise. Sightseers will be impressed with the scenic town and its surroundings, especially Misty Fjords National Monument (optional shore excursion, charges apply).

Overnight: Princess Cruises - Emerald Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 9 The Inside Passage (Scenic Cruising)

Relax onboard the ship and enjoy a day of cruising as you traverse the picturesque Inside Passage towards Vancouver. Alaska's Inside Passage is a renowned cruising route through a protected network of waterways, featuring glacier-cut fjords, lush rainforests, and diverse wildlife.

Overnight: Princess Cruises - Emerald Princess

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 10 Vancouver, Canada - Australia (or New Zealand)

Arrive: 07:30

After breakfast, disembark and make your own way to the airport for your flight home.

Please note: Some flights will depart late in the evening. Luggage storage is available at both the cruise port and Vancouver International Airport (fees apply).

Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. Yellow Fever
A valid international certificate of vaccination against Yellow Fever is required in many countries. You may need to present this on arrival at the airport or border crossing. Some countries will refuse entry if you are unable to present your certificate. It's also common for your home country to request a Yellow Fever certificate upon arrival. You must check with your doctor well before leaving home about the Yellow Fever requirements for the countries you'll be visiting.

Sightseeing
Please note: If entry to a site is affected by changes in operating hours or public holiday closures, your itinerary, where possible, may be adjusted, or a similar activity will be offered in its place (subject to availability).

Shopping
Shopping overseas can be a daunting and confusing experience, especially when there is a language barrier. Please be very cautious when foreign currencies and prices are involved. If paying by credit card, please pay close attention to the amount you are being charged and keep all your receipts. Do not make any purchases you are not comfortable with or feel pressured into. If you are uncertain or need assistance with the language barrier, please seek assistance from your Tour Guide/Leader. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions regarding shopping for further information.

Visas

Canada
If transiting via Canada on the way to the USA, Australian and New Zealand passport holders must apply for an electronic travel authorisation (eTA) before travelling to Canada by air. An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is an entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals travelling to Canada by air. An eTA is electronically linked to a traveller’s passport. It is valid for up to five years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. If you get a new passport, you need to get a new eTA. If you arrive in Canada by train, bus, or boat, you don’t need a visa or eTA, but you do need to bring the right travel documents.

United States of America
Australian passport holders must obtain an ESTA visa waiver in order to enter or transit in the United States.
Please note: You may be required to obtain a visa if you do not meet the eligibility requirements of the ESTA program. Please see https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov for full eligibility requirements and applications.

Important:
• Please start arranging your visa three weeks before departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.
• Visa rules are subject to change. Please check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination/s you are visiting once you receive your travel documentation to ensure you have the most up to date information.
• It is your responsibility to be travel-ready and ensure that you are aware and comply with any destination or travel requirements, including the validity of all required travel documents.
• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.
• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.

Travel insurance

Embarking on your next trip is exciting, and while you hope the unexpected does not happen, it is best to be prepared. We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance when making your booking. Whether it’s a potential medical emergency, a flight cancellation, a delayed suitcase, or an unforeseen event, it's important to ensure you're adequately protected.
