Day 23 Afternoon Safari Kruger National Park, South Africa

Today you'll travel from Johannesburg to your hotel in Kruger, which will take approximately 6 hours. Upon arrival, you will check-in at your hotel and depart on an afternoon game drive in Kruger National Park.

Even though wildlife tends to rest in the midday heat, the advantage of an afternoon safari is that the guides will have information about earlier sightings and where they took place. Watering holes are a popular spot during this time as many animals will be looking to cool down. Nothing is more exciting than watching elephants play around in a river. Your guide will provide facts about the animals and birds, as well as the plant life for those who share an interest in the lush vegetation and age-old trees.

The later the day gets and the closer it gets to closing time in the park, the better the chances of sightings become as the animals become more active as the heat dissipates. It's recommended you bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, comfortable shoes, warm clothing in the winter months and a rain jacket in the summer months.

Afterwards, you'll return in time to freshen up and enjoy a delicious dinner back at your lodge.

Overnight: Kruger Gate Hotel or similar

Meals included: Breakfast; Dinner

Day 24 Full-Day Game Drive Kruger National Park, South Africa

Today you'll enjoy a full-day game drive in Kruger National Park on custom-built open safari vehicles. You will be collected at your lodge at approximately 05:00 so you'll need to collect your breakfast pack beforehand.

Once the gates open, you'll enter Kruger National Park in search of prides of lions, majestic herds of elephants, a solitary leopard lying under a shady tree, the rare rhino and herds of buffalo. You'll also want to keep a lookout for birds like hornbills, eagles, secretary birds and more.

The guides are all qualified and have years of experience in the park so they love nothing more than to share their wealth of knowledge and make sure that you have the best safari experience possible. You will stop at picnic spots and rest camps throughout the day for breakfast, lunch and restroom breaks.

Afterwards, you'll return to the lodge at about 16:00 so you have time to relax and freshen up before dinner.

Tipping Guidelines when Travelling in Southern Africa
• Southern Africa has a tipping culture and the general rule is to start at 10%.
• You’re not obliged to leave a tip if the service provider was unprofessional, rude or has provided inadequate service.
• Preferably tip with cash however tipping by card is also appreciated.
• In South Africa or Namibia you should tip in the local currency as recipients will not be able to change USD/$ to ZAR/NAD easily due to exchange control laws in the country. In Zimbabwe, Botswana, Zambia and Mozambique USD/$ is readily accepted and is the preferred currency for tipping.
• Tipping should be done at the end of your stay, not each day.
• Many lodges or hotels will have a communal tip box, if not some prefer handing tips for general accommodation staff to the general manager.
• Individuals (e.g. rangers, tourist guides) should be tipped directly, preferably with cash in an envelope.

Recommended Tips
• Game Rangers on a private game reserve: R200 to R500 ($15-25) per person per day
• Trackers: R100 to R200 ($10-20) per person per day
• Tour Guides (Group Tour): R100 ($10) and up per person per day
• Tour Guides (Private): R200 ($20) and up per person per day

Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

Tanzania
You need a visa to enter Tanzania. Tanzania has introduced an online visa application form that can be submitted and approved online before travel. Entry and exit conditions can change at short notice. You should contact the nearest embassy or consulate of Tanzania for the latest details.

Kenya
Australian passport holders require a visa to travel to Kenya. You now need to apply online for an electronic travel authorisation prior to travel. Entry and exit conditions can change at short notice. You should contact the nearest high commission/embassy or consulate of Kenya for the latest details. If you have a valid visa, you can continue to travel using this visa until its expiry.

South Africa
You don't need a visa if you're visiting South Africa for tourism purposes for up to 90 days. In other cases, you'll need a visa. Entry and exit conditions can change at short notice. Contact the nearest embassy or consulate of South Africa for the latest details.

Important:
• Please start arranging your visa three weeks before departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.
• Visa rules are subject to change. Please check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination/s you are visiting once you receive your travel documentation to ensure you have the most up to date information.
• It is your responsibility to be travel-ready and ensure that you are aware and comply with any destination or travel requirements, including the validity of all required travel documents.
• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.
• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.
