Day 11 Singapore

Enjoy your day at leisure discovering the history and fascinating experiences of this vibrant city.

Singapore was first settled in the late 13th century on the banks of the Singapore River. This served as the only port at the southern end of the Strait of Malacca, thriving in its infancy before its role as an international trading port declined by the 15th century. Singapore’s main settlement and port were later destroyed in the early 17th century, with no significant activity until Sir Stamford Raffles landed on the island in 1819.

Raffles established a new settlement and international port for Britain, keen to draw in traders from Asia and Europe. The Chinese began to set up trading houses on the river’s south bank and lower reaches, while the British resided on the upper reaches of the river. Singapore thrived and continued to do so when it ceased to be part of the British Empire in 1963, despite small setbacks in trade up until the 1990s, when the port once again became a key player.

Wander around the Gardens by the Bay natural park, go behind the scenes at Universal Studios Singapore, visit the world’s first nocturnal zoo at The Night Safari, or explore Singaporean culture through food with a Cultural Cooking Class. Your pass is fully digital – simply displayed on a mobile device or print at home – and is valid for 60 days from first use. Pass holders also get a digital guidebook to help plan their itinerary.

Do not miss the Gardens by the Bay free spectacular evening sound and light show. It is also well worth a visit during the day to relish the peace and serenity of this tranquil space.

Chinatown and Little India bring another example of Singapore’s diversity to the table, home to wonderful authentic eateries and some stunning temples. In Chinatown, the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple is the star of the show, while in Little India, a visit to the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple will allow you to discover the district’s oldest and busiest temple.

Gratuities (tips) are not included for the cruise staff's services throughout this tour's cruise component. Cunard is an internationally registered company & operates to US & European standards, both of which have an economy driven by a tipping culture. If you have any questions regarding the gratuities on your cruise, please speak to the guest services staff onboard the ship.

Please note: If entry to a site is affected by changes in operating hours or public holiday closures, your itinerary, where possible, may be adjusted, or a similar activity will be offered in its place (subject to availability).

Shopping overseas can be a daunting and confusing experience, especially when there is a language barrier. Please be very cautious when foreign currencies and prices are involved. If paying by credit card, please pay close attention to the amount you are being charged and keep all your receipts.

Do not make any purchases you are not comfortable with or feel pressured into. If you are uncertain or need assistance with the language barrier, please seek assistance from your Tour Guide/Leader.

A visa is not required for Australian Passport holders. All travellers must submit a Health Declaration via the SG Arrival Card E-Service up to 72 hours before arrival in Singapore.

Australian passport holders are eligible to apply online for a single entry electronic visa (e-visa), valid for up to a maximum of 30 days. Lodge your application online (for a non-refundable fee) with the Vietnamese National Web Portal of Immigration - You will be given a unique code to track your visa application status. Once your visa is granted, you must print it out and present it at check-in. Keep this e-visa printout with you at all times during your travel to Vietnam.

Hong Kong

Australian passport holders do not require a visa for stays under 90 days to Hong Kong

• Please start arranging your visa three weeks before departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.

• Visa rules may have changed since Covid-19. Some countries and airlines may require you to obtain an additional visa before arrival. Please check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination you're entering.

Please note:

• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.

• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.
