Sedona has been revered as a magnificent spiritual haven since prehistoric times as Native Americans have been coming here for their religious ceremonies, spiritual awakenings, rites of passage and weddings for hundreds of years. The area is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty and unique geological features such as its impressive red-rock buttes, steep canyon walls and pine forests. Day 4 Flagstaff - Grand Canyon - Grand Canyon Railway

This morning you'll drive to the iconic Grand Canyon, a superb geological phenomenon and one of the seven wonders of the world which is bound to be one of the highlights of your trip. The Grand Canyon is the result of millions of years of wind and water erosion which has created an endless expanse of shapes and colours with its layered bands of red rock revealing millions of years of geological history. The Colorado River flows over a mile below so from here you will have the opportunity to walk along the South Rim and make use of the complimentary park shuttles to various viewpoints to see one of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring wonders in the world.

In the afternoon, you will embark on a scenic train journey aboard the Grand Canyon Railway. Since 1901, the Grand Canyon Railway has been taking passengers on a fabled journey to the heart of one of the seven wonders of the world. It's more than just a mode of transportation: it’s a trip back in time on a lovingly restored rail car with entertaining musicians who have the antics of cowboy characters. Out the window, you'll watch the terrain change from high desert to prairie and then to pine.

Afterwards, you'll arrive in the town of Williams and continue back to Flagstaff for an evening at leisure after an approximately 200-kilometre travel day (not including the rail trip).

Along the way, you'll stop at the historic Cameron Trading Post where you can shop for Native American goods before venturing on an easy 2.4-kilometre return hike to Horseshoe Bend. This is a geologic masterpiece sculpted by the Colorado River, showcasing what happens when water takes the path of least resistance and goes around an immovable sandstone escarpment. The result is the 270° bend in the river you see before you which provides a very impressive photo opportunity. Afterwards, you'll arrive in Page where you can check into your accommodation and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

Overnight: Best Western View of Lake Powell or similar

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 6 Page - Antelope Canyon - Monument Valley

Start the day with a visit to Antelope Canyon which has been gently carved from the Navajo sandstone over the course of countless millennia. This has created majestic slot canyons and narrow passages with just enough space for a small group to walk the sandy floor. Here you will enjoy a guided walk with a Navajo guide to learn more about the history and significance of this amazing formation.

Afterwards, you'll travel to Monument Valley where you will find yourself surrounded by dark red hills where numerous Western movies have been filmed. This vast desert plain overflows with gigantic sandstone monolithic structures rising high above the valley so here you will take a jeep tour through the valley with a local Navajo guide. You'll then return to Page for another evening at leisure after an approximately 200-kilometre travel day.

Please note: The visit to Antelope Canyon may require the group to be split into two smaller groups and may be conducted on Day 6 or 8 of the tour depending on availability.

Overnight: Best Western View of Lake Powell or similar

Day 7 Page – Bryce Canyon – Kanab, Utah

A beautiful drive lies ahead this morning as you cross the plains to Bryce Canyon, one of the most fascinating natural parks in Utah. Filled with vertical rock pillars of orange sandstone, the area is affectionately known as 'hoodoos' which you can see descend down into a natural amphitheatre to create a spectacle of rock that looks almost otherworldly. Here you will have time to explore one of the park's endless trails on your own and take in the breathtaking sights of the unique Utah landscape.

Afterwards, you'll continue onwards to Kanab which is often referred to as ‘Little Hollywood’ due to its history as a filming location for Western movies and television series such as 'Daniel Boone', 'Gunsmoke' and 'The Lone Ranger'. Upon arrival, check into your accommodation and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure after an approximately 370-kilometre travel day.

Here you can gaze up at massive sandstone cliffs and cathedral-shaped rocks of cream, pink, and red that soar 3,000 feet high into a brilliant blue sky. There's an incredible diversity of plant and animal life due to the park’s unique geography so make the most of exploring the park on your own or using the complimentary park shuttle. The shuttle service will take you from the visitor's centre to the various trails and vista points in the park so you can choose your own adventure. This afternoon, you'll depart Zion and transfer back to Las Vegas for one more night at leisure after an approximately 350-kilometre travel day.

Just 190 kilometres south of San Francisco, you'll find the Monterey Peninsula with its jagged coastline, deep blue waters, marine sanctuaries and cooling cypress forests that have inspired artists and writers like Robert Louis Stevenson and John Steinbeck. Monterey was first settled by the Native American tribe of Rumsien before European settlers established a Royal Presidio and Mission in 1770, which is now one of the most authentically restored Franciscan missions.

Monterey's friendly community takes pride in its maritime heritage so a walk down iconic Cannery Row reveals its past as the West's sardine capital while the world-renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium is a celebration of all creatures of the sea. Top off your day with freshly caught seafood and a tasting of local, hand-crafted wines before taking the opportunity to bike along tree-lined trails or drive the spectacular stretch of coastline that includes a star-studded town boasting cottage-style curio shops, tiny candy stores, cafes and fashionable boutiques and the legendary Pebble Beach Golf Course. From sandy beaches to salt-water taffy, Monterey offers the quintessential California experience to those lucky enough to grace its shores.

Day 16 San Diego, California

(Arrive at 08:00 and depart at 22:00)

Known as a place of infinite beauty, affectionate locals and endless sunshine, San Diego has become one of America's favourite cities. Located in the southwest corner of California, close to the border of Mexico, San Diego has a distinct cross-cultural feel with a sun-drenched Mediterranean atmosphere and quintessential California beach town feel.

The history of San Diego is rooted in its Spanish and Mexican past as the city was declared the capital of Baja only four years after Mexico gained its independence in 1821. Less than thirty years later, the United States declared war on Mexico and within two years, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed creating the current borders between Mexico and the United States.

The city continues to prosper with a population exceeding one million while world-renowned attractions such as the San Diego Zoo, the Salk Institute, Sea World, La Jolla and the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge have created a strong tourism industry for the area. Undoubtedly what attracts visitors from around the world is the city's breathtaking natural beauty, superb coastline and near-perfect weather.

Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER

Tour Guide

Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader

An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

Gratuities / Tipping

Land

Gratuities (tips) are not included for the services of the tour leader (when available) and driver throughout the tour. The highly recommended tip is $4 USD for the driver and $5 USD for the guide, per person per day where touring/transfer services are provided. This covers the guide/leader and the driver and will be collected on tour.

Please note: Tipping for services provided is always a matter of personal discretion; however, please be aware that many locals consider tipping part of their normal remuneration, and they may approach you for payment; there's no need to be intimidated by the request.

Cruise

Gratuities (tips) are not included for the cruise staff's services throughout this tour's cruise component. Princess Cruises is an internationally registered company and operates to US and European standards, both of which have an economy driven by a tipping culture. Gratuities are expected on your cruise and will be charged to your onboard account from USD$16.00 per person per day. If you have any questions regarding the gratuities on your cruise, please speak to the guest services staff onboard the ship.

Shopping

Shopping overseas can be a daunting and confusing experience, especially when there is a language barrier. Please be very cautious when foreign currencies and prices are involved. If paying by credit card, please pay close attention to the amount you are being charged and keep all your receipts.

Do not make any purchases you are not comfortable with or feel pressured into. If you are uncertain or need assistance with the language barrier, please seek assistance from your Tour Guide/Leader.

Please refer to our Terms and Conditions regarding shopping for further information.

Visas

United States

• If travelling on an Australian Passport, an ESTA (Visa Waiver) for the USA is a strict requirement when travelling to or flying through the USA. Once a USA ESTA Visa Waiver is issued it is valid for 2 years or until your passport expires (whichever is sooner) and will allow multiple entries into the USA. For information on ESTA eligibility or to apply, please visit: https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/

Please note: Due to recent changes in the USA Immigration policies, TripADeal recommends all travellers visit US Customs & Border Protection.

Canada (If you are transiting through Canada)

If transiting via Canada on the way to the USA, Australian and New Zealand passport holders must apply for an electronic travel authorisation (eTA) before travelling to Canada by air. An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is an entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals travelling to Canada by air. An eTA is electronically linked to a traveller’s passport. It is valid for up to five years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. If you get a new passport, you need to get a new eTA.

Important:

• Please start arranging your visa three weeks before departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.

• Visa rules may have changed since Covid-19. Some countries and airlines may require you to obtain an additional visa before arrival. Please check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination you're entering.

Please note:

• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.

• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.

Travel insurance

Embarking on your next trip is exciting, and while you hope the unexpected does not happen, it is best to be prepared. We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance when making your booking. Whether it’s a potential medical emergency, a flight cancellation, a delayed suitcase, or an unforeseen event, it's important to ensure you're adequately protected.
