Arrive: 08:00- Depart: 17:00

The port of Souda on the Aegean Sea is home to a Greek and NATO naval base and is located six kilometres from Chania—the second-largest city on Crete, which itself is the largest of the Greek Islands. Once you’re in Chania, set your compass for the historic waterfront with its famous Venetian Harbour dating to the 14th century. Walk along the breakwater to the restored 500-year-old lighthouse for views that are particularly photogenic from late afternoon until sunset. The atmospheric tangle of streets that is Old Town is easily explored on foot, and you can stop at one of the many outdoor cafés for a bougatsa (custard pastry) or a glass of Cretan red wine.

Day 5 Mykonos, Greece

Once a playground for wealthy starlets, an aura of glamour lingers on Mykonos. Today, Mykonos caters to all types of travellers and there’s lots to see, do, and taste that’s accessible to us mere mortals. Mykonos cruise passengers are tendered straight into Old Town or water taxi in from the nearby Mykonos cruise port. Stunning views welcome you to the town with cliffside whitewashed houses and bright trim (blue for sailors, green for farmers, red for other) and trellises of bougainvillaea.

Overnight: Holland America 'Oosterdam' ship

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 6 Cruising The Dardanelles

Today, stay onboard as you cruise the Dardanelles Strait.

On the far northwest coast of Turkey, the 60-kilometre-long Dardanelles divides the continents of Europe and Asia, and is the sole waterway between the Aegean and Marmara seas and beyond to the Black Sea. For this reason, the Dardanelles has, for millennia, been a strategic gateway for both the shipping trade and military campaigns to Istanbul and the Black Sea region.

The Dardanelles used to be called Hellespont, after Greek mythology’s mortal princess, Helle, who drowned in these treacherous waters after falling off the back of the flying golden ram. In another Greek myth, Leander swam across the strait, which was famously emulated in 1810 by the Romantic poet Lord Byron. These days the scenery is less dramatic than in those tales, but there are notable landmarks along the shores to see and photograph. Australians, New Zealanders and history buffs will take the most interest in the Gallipoli Peninsula on the northern shore at the mouth of the Dardanelles. For it was on this peninsula during the brutal Gallipoli Campaign, fought for eight months in 1915, that the legend of the Anzac spirit of courage, loyalty and friendship was born.

Overnight: Holland America 'Oosterdam' ship

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 7 Istanbul, Türkiye

Arrive: 07:00- Depart: 23:00

Arriving in Istanbul, Türkiye on board a ship is an unforgettable experience. The Bosphorus, dividing Europe and Asia, welcomes passengers with ocean breezes, soaring seagulls and—if you’re lucky—playful dolphins that frolic en route to the port. On deck is where the views of Istanbul’s best attractions await. The shores of Asia to the east, the first Bosphorus Bridge to the north, and the “old Istanbul” peninsula in the south—home to Topkapı Palace and Hagia Sophia—give a glimpse of what’s to come on your visit. But once you step ashore in Istanbul, you’ll find the most interesting parts of the city—neighbourhoods with personalities of their own.

Day 8 Cruising The Dardanelles

Today, stay onboard as you cruise the Dardanelles Strait.

On the far northwest coast of Turkey, the 60-kilometre-long Dardanelles divides the continents of Europe and Asia, and is the sole waterway between the Aegean and Marmara seas and beyond to the Black Sea. Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 9 Katakolon (Olympia), Greece

Arrive: 10:00 - Depart: 18:00

The port of Katakolon is the gateway to the Peloponnese, one of Greece’s most intriguing and least well-known areas. Beyond the region’s famous site of ancient Olympia—one of the most treasured remnants of the classical world—the Peloponnese gets little of the glory given to the Greek islands and Athens. And it deserves much more, as you’re about to discover.

A distinctly Greek welcome can be experienced here like nowhere else. The region reveals what it means to be Greek: traditions that go back thousands of years, simple but delicious and healthy cuisine, towering mountains, crystal blue seas and, above all, the true hospitality of the people. In Greek, xenos means 'stranger,' but the word also means 'guest,' and a respectful traveller will be treated like a favoured friend.

In addition to Olympia, which is unmissable, the Peloponnese offers lesser-known but majestic and ancient sites, natural wonders and an insight into the traditional rural life that still endures in this country. Take the time to explore and see as much as possible—your efforts will be more than rewarded.

Overnight: Holland America 'Oosterdam' ship

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 10 Kerkira, Nisos Kerkira (Corfu), Greece

Arrive: 08:00 - Depart: 17:00

Corfu is the pearl of the Ionian Sea, attracting royalty from across Europe in the 19th century, and modern celebrities from all over the world ever since. The island reflects a triple heritage. As well as being undeniably Greek, the culture and food also show a clear nod towards nearby Italy, particularly Venice, whose fortresses dot the island. The British influence may be unexpected, but as they ruled the island for many years, they have left such surprises in the Mediterranean as cricket and ginger beer. The bustling atmosphere of Corfu Town remains elegant and infused with culture and history. Parts of the rest of the island have been overdeveloped, but there are still great swaths that epitomise why the Greek islands are still regarded as the most beautiful in the world, with white-sand beaches backed by verdant mountains hiding traditional old villages. It is easy to see how Corfu has inspired generations of writers: from Shakespeare, through Edward Lear, to Gerald Durrell. A true gem.

Overnight: Holland America 'Oosterdam' ship

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 11 Korcula, Croatia

Arrive: 08:00 - Depart: 17:00

Croatia’s sixth-largest island—once known as Melaina Korkyra (Black Korkyra) because its vast oak forests reminded Greek settlers of Corfu—is covered in pine trees, olive groves and vineyards. As you glide down the Strait of Pelješac, admire the peninsula’s dramatic karst slopes dropping off into the Adriatic Sea and the 19 islets of the archipelago around the canal.

Korčula Old Town is the island’s treasured highlight and a UNESCO World Heritage Site candidate. It's stone architecture and historic ambience reflect almost four centuries of Venetian rule, with towered gates, lion statues, magnificent palazzos and elaborate stonework peppering the charming streets. Venturing out of the Old Town, you will encounter historic villages, picturesque bays, waterfront promenades and welcoming locals.

Day 13 Trieste (Venice), Italy

Arrive: 07:00 - Depart: 17:00

Trieste is a little slice of eternal Italy that sits between Slovenia and the Adriatic Coast, a charming destination that has been furnished decorously by grandeur and royalty through the centuries. You'll find that the heart of the mediaeval old city and its neoclassical Austrian quarter offer great expressions of this seaport’s colourful past.

Trieste also serves as your gateway to the iconic canal city of Venice. The journey from Trieste to Venice is approximately 160 kilometres and can be accessed by train or taxi. Alternatively, book a Holland America shore excursion and transfer directly from the ship to Venice. Shore excursions can be booked via your online cruise personaliser once you receive your cruise booking reference number

Day 15 Kotor, Montenegro

Arrive: 08:00 - Depart: 17:00

Cruising into the Bay of Kotor, you'll be wowed by the dramatic beauty of this coastal Montenegrin town. Dreamy seafront villages are set to a backdrop of mountains plummeting into the Adriatic Sea, while the stone labyrinth of the Old Town is filled with mediaeval architecture and historical monuments—as well as the narrowest street in the world.

The cruise ship dock is across the street from the Sea Gate, the main entrance to the Old Town, while a conveniently located taxi stand by the harbour gates allows for easy exploration of the region.

Day 18 Taormina, Italy

Arrive: 07:00- Depart: 15:00

Located on Sicily's east coast, just north of the active volcano Mt. Etna, Taormina has long drawn visitors with its stunning coastal scenery, thanks to its vantage point 204 meters (669 feet) above the Ionian Sea. Literary giants like Goethe and D.H. Lawrence spent time here, and more recently the town has become a popular spot for fans of the Godfather films, with some scenes shot in the area. Founded in the 4th century B.C.E., the town has a compact historic centre that’s best explored on foot. Start with a visit to the ancient Greek Theatre before shopping and people-watching along the Corso Umberto. A cable car makes it easy to reach the beach at Lido Mazzaró—one of the most picturesque and popular on the island, where you can frolic in the crystal clear water or sip a cold drink at one of the beach bars. Taormina is also an ideal jumping-off point for wine-tasting tours on Mt. Etna's slopes, or a visit to the nearby city of Catania.

This evening after departing Taormina, be sure to find a nice spot on deck and enjoy scenic cruising of the Stromboli Volcano. One of eight Lipari Islands off the north coast of Sicily, tiny Stromboli is the most active—in that it is home to the second-most-active volcano on Earth, one that's been erupting continuously for more than 2,000 years. Most visitors who cruise around the island have a singular focus: the volcano. It perfectly matches one’s image of the legendary geographical feature—cone-shaped, topped by a fiery crater that spews fountains of glowing red lava, and best seen at night.

Overnight: Holland America 'Oosterdam' ship

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 19 Naples (Pompeii/Amalfi), Italy

Arrive: 08:00- Depart: 18:00

Rising behind the wide curve of its bay with brooding Mount Vesuvius and the deep blue sea as a backdrop, Naples, Italy enjoys a magnificent natural setting. It is the third-largest city in Italy after Rome and Milan, and arguably the most colourful and seductive of them all: Splendour and squalor live side by side in 21st-century Naples, and the mix is intoxicating.

Overnight: Holland America 'Oosterdam' ship

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 20 Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy

Arrive: 07:00 - Depart: 21:00

Your sightseeing time in Rome begins at the nearby port of Civitavecchia, a seaside town with roots that stretch back to the Etruscan era. Take note of the Forte Michelangelo (both Bramante and Michelangelo had a hand in its design), and the Lungomare, a lively stretch along the sea with beach clubs, bars and restaurants.

Make your way to the Eternal City where you can fill your day with museums, churches, archaeological sites, traditional trattorias, artisan shops and, of course, gelato. The Colosseum and the Vatican Museums are Rome's superstar attractions, but there are plenty of quieter gems to explore. For food lovers there are the markets in Campo de' Fiori or the slightly farther flung Testaccio. The hip neighbourhood of Monti, next to the Colosseum, has a vibrant piazza scene and boutique shopping, while the Villa Borghese offers a green oasis with a view towards Saint Peter’s Basilica and the masterpiece-filled Galleria Borghese. Although Rome might not have been built in one day, you'll certainly be able to see its highlights today.

Overnight: Holland America 'Oosterdam' ship

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 21 Livorno (Florence/Pisa), Italy

Arrive: 07:00 - Depart: 19:00

The Renaissance-era port city of Livorno, Italy, gateway to Pisa, Florence and the rest of the attractions of Tuscany, is characterised by its solid 16th-century Fortezza and the charming canal network known as Venezia Nuova. It’s also famous for cacciucco, a spicy fish stew.

Overnight: Holland America 'Oosterdam' ship

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 22 St Tropez, France

Arrive: 08:00 - Depart: 17:00

St.-Tropez may be home to fewer than 6,000 residents, but this town on the French Riviera has a fame that exceeds its small size. The Riviera’s history as a Mediterranean playground dates back more than a century. With its villas set amid pines, it became a favourite summer destination that appears in the pages of novels by Edith Wharton, F. Scott Fitzgerald and others. It was the actress Brigitte Bardot, however, who helped shine the spotlight on St.-Tropez in the 1960s. When she was photographed walking along the town’s promenade in a bikini, Bardot made St.-Tropez synonymous with sun-kissed jet-set decadence. That world still exists today, and few mediaeval towns boast as many designer boutiques per square metre; its Vieux Port, or old port, is lined with yachts as well as fishing boats. Even if St.-Tropez’s charms are now world-famous, it doesn’t make them less captivating, whether you’re sipping rosé at a harbourfront restaurant or shopping for lavender soaps, olive oils or a Chanel outfit at the brand’s annual summer pop-up. The town is also an excellent base to explore the Riviera’s less-famous destinations, from quiet beaches to hill towns in the interior, once you have had enough of glitter and stardust.

For it was on this peninsula during the brutal Gallipoli Campaign, fought for eight months in 1915, that the legend of the Anzac spirit of courage, loyalty and friendship was born.

Day 7 Istanbul, Türkiye

Arrive: 07:00 - Depart: 23:00

Day 9 Katakolon (Olympia), Greece

Arrive: 10:00 - Depart: 18:00

The port of Katakolon is the gateway to the Peloponnese, one of Greece’s most intriguing and least well-known areas. Beyond the region’s famous site of ancient Olympia—one of the most treasured remnants of the classical world—the Peloponnese gets little of the glory given the Greek islands and Athens.

The bustling atmosphere of Corfu Town remains elegant, infused with culture and history.

Its stone architecture and historic ambiance reflect almost four centuries of Venetian rule, with towered gates, lion statues, magnificent palazzos and elaborate stonework peppering the charming streets. Venturing out of the Old Town, you will encounter historic villages, picturesque bays, waterfront promenades and welcoming locals.

In the evening, why not dine at the Lido Market so you can immerse yourself in a culinary journey with its diverse buffet offerings? Enjoy friendly competition and create lasting memories in family activities at High Score before being captivated by a mesmerising show on the World Stage. Finish the night with live music trivia at Billboard Entertainment where you can showcase your musical knowledge and soak in a lively atmosphere.

Dreamy seafront villages are set to a backdrop of mountains plummeting into the Adriatic Sea, while the stone labyrinth of the Old Town is filled with mediaeval architecture and historic monuments—as well as the narrowest street in the world.

The cruise ship dock is across the street from the Sea Gate, the main entrance to the Old Town, while a conveniently located taxi stand by the harbour gates allows for easy exploration of the region.

Day 18 Taormina, Italy

Arrive: 07:00 - Depart: 15:00

Located on Sicily's east coast, just north of the active volcano Mt. Etna, Taormina has long drawn visitors with its stunning coastal scenery, thanks to its vantage point 204 metres (669 feet) above the Ionian Sea.

Day 19 Naples (Pompeii/Amalfi), Italy

Arrive: 08:00 - Depart: 18:00

Even if St.-Tropez’s charms are now world-famous, it doesn’t make them less captivating, whether you’re sipping rosé at a harbour-front restaurant or shopping for lavender soaps, olive oils or a Chanel outfit at the brand’s annual summer pop-up. The town is also an excellent base to explore the Riviera’s less-famous destinations, from quiet beaches to hill towns in the interior, once you have had enough of glitter and stardust.

Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.
