Located on Papua New Guinea’s northeastern tip, this province - blessed with natural beauty but plagued with an unlucky past - has literally risen from the ashes. The small town was nearly destroyed by an eruption of nearby volcano Tavurvur in 1994. Today, it's a renowned mecca for scuba diving and also offers fascinating insight into the history of WWII. The colourful Rabaul Market and Kokopo War & Cultural Museum are both worth exploring.
