Today make your own way to your 4-star beachside accommodation at Mantra on Salt Beach Kingscliff (a short 20 minute taxi ride from Coolangatta/Gold Coast airport), check-in and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

Kingscliff is a sleepy surfing and fishing village on the far NSW North Coast that’s emerged as one of the state’s best coastal escapes. Located just south of the bustling Gold Coast, it’s the ideal beach retreat for visitors who like sophistication with their sand and sunshine.

Offering a relaxing vibe and a sensational climate, Mantra on Salt Beach Kingscliff is the perfect spot to start your holiday. Leave the stress of daily life behind as you cycle or walk along the beach, take advantage of the barbeques, or just relax in the hotel pool. During whale season, you may even be lucky enough to spot these magnificent creatures in the waters offshore.

Overnight: Mantra on Salt Beach Kingscliff, Kingscliff
Meals included: None

Today is a free day to explore the beautiful Kingscliff area, home to some of the region’s best beaches and amazing cafes and restaurants.

We suggest you take a walk or hire a bike and explore the amazing coastal walking/bike path that runs all the way from Fingal Head to Pottsville or go for a swim in the crystal clear waters of the Kingscliff River. There are some great local markets to explore such as the Salt Village Market that takes place right outside your hotel every third Saturday of the month, along with the Kingscliff Beachside Markets (5km from your hotel) that takes place on the second and fourth Saturday of every month. If you are thirsty, we recommend a visit to the awesome Earth Brewery which is located on a nearby working avocado farm overlooking Mt. Warning (Mt. Wollumbin). If that all sounds a bit too stressful though why not just relax by the pool or on the golden sands of the beautiful beach right in front of the hotel.

Overnight: Mantra on Salt Beach Kingscliff, Kingscliff

This morning you will be picked up by your driver and head out on a full day sightseeing tour of the Tweed Hinterland. Below is a summary of the areas visited throughout the day. You will enjoy time at leisure at each of these places, with the addition of a guided tour at Husk Distillery. Finish the day in the coastal town of Brunswick Heads, the epitome of the sun-drenched fishing and surfing village lost in time.

Cabarita: Enjoy a quick stop in the coastal town of Cabarita, where you can enjoy a short walk up to Norries Head to view the beautiful Cabarita Beach, voted Australia’s number one beach in 2020. Keep an eye out for migrating whales (May to November), dolphins and lizards and snap a couple of photos while you're at it.

Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre: Visit the regional town of Murwillumbah and head to the Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre where you can explore this gallery at leisure. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and lawns and offering panoramic views of the Tweed River, the Gallery was established in 2004. The prestigious Margaret Olley Art Centre was completed in May 2014 and is already a renowned tourist destination. You’ll enjoy a program of vibrant exhibitions, which change approximately every eight weeks. The exhibition spaces host a vibrant program of historical and contemporary touring exhibitions of national significance, alongside curated exhibitions of established national and regional artists.

Tyalgum/Flutterbies Country Cafe: It’s a calm country drive to the picturesque town of Tyalgum, located in the picturesque foothills of Mount Warning in the Heart of the Caldera. Here you will find Flutterbies Cottage Cafe where you will enjoy lunch. Set within the grounds of the lovingly restored Bakery and Butcher, Flutterbies is filled with the old world charm of times gone by. Discover the delight of french linen, flowers and vintage crockery in the elegant Tea Room or relax in the garden for lunch, browse the beautiful gift shops or sample single origin third wave coffee at Double or Nothing Coffee Alchymists. After lunch, enjoy some time at leisure to explore this beautiful country town. Visit the arts and crafts shops for local handicrafts and homewares, take a stroll along the creek or visit the iconic Tyalgum Hotel for a drink

Husk Distillery: In Tumbulgum on the banks of the Tweed River, you will find the beautiful Husk Distillery where you will enjoy a tour of this magnificent distillery. Follow the journey from paddock to bottle, and learn how they make their single estate agricole rum and internationally-renowned Ink Gin. Distillery tours last for around 40 minutes and include a gin and tonic on arrival, and an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the distillery before finishing with a rum tasting flight in the barrel house. Alternatively, exchange the welcome drink for a non-alcoholic mocktail or coffee.

Overnight: Brunswick River Inn, Brunswick Heads
Meals included: Lunch

This morning enjoy a nice cafe breakfast at the highly-rated Footbridge Cafe a short 50m walk from your accommodation before heading out to explore the Brunswick River and rainforest of New South Wales on a boat cruise in Cape Byron Marine Park. Your guide shares informative commentary about the region's history and wildlife, and you might spot a variety of birds along the shore, and fish, stingrays and other marine animals in the clear waters. You can also enjoy the delicious selection of hot and cold drinks, cakes and biscuits that are served during the cruise.

After the cruise, enjoy the remainder of the day to explore Brunswick Heads at leisure. Go for a swim in the clear waters of Brunswick River on high tide at Torakina Beach. Enjoy a drink and a meal at the iconic Brunswick Hotel, Trawlers, Happy Dolphin, or one of the other highly rated venues in town. You might even be able to catch a live show at the Brunswick Picture House.

Overnight: Brunswick River Inn, Brunswick Heads
Meals included: Breakfast

After another breakfast at the Footbridge Cafe this morning, check out of your accommodation in Brunswick Heads. Today you will head out on a fabulous full-day guided tour of the Byron hinterland. First up, a coffee stop at The Farm at the entrance to Byron Bay.

The Farm is many things: a destination, a working farm, a rustic eatery, a source of education, a produce market, and more. Whether you want to walk around the farm and view the gardens and livestock, buy a treat from The Bread Social, an artisan bakehouse stocking bio- dynamic sourdoughs and mouth-watering pastries, or treat yourself to local produce from The Produce Store, The Farm has something for everyone.

After The Farm, head out deep into the hinterland to explore the natural wonder of the World Heritage listed Nightcap National Park. Here you will enjoy a guided rainforest walk (1.4km return) to the spectacular Protesters Falls. Named after the Terania Creek protests of the late 1970s that saved this precious patch of pristine rainforest, it’s an important habitat for a range of endangered frogs, including the threatened Fleay’s barred frog and pouched frog.

As you walk along this easy track, you’ll notice how subtropical Bangalow palms and native tamarind give way to towering rainforest giants of yellow carabeen and strangler figs. Listen out for the call of the rose-crowned fruit dove and the barred cuckoo-shrike. You might even see a pademelon darting through the bush. At the falls enjoy a delicious lunch of fresh sandwiches from Brunswick Heads Bakery while you relax and reconnect with nature.

Afterwards travel to a nearby glow worm cave. Marvel at these mysterious creatures, and then travel to the country town of Bangalow. Only a decade-or-so ago, Bangalow was a tiny farming community unknown to all but its locals. These days, the town is famous as a cute hamlet of Bangalow palm trees, 100-year-old Federation buildings, boutique stores and gourmet dining options. Enjoy some free time to wander around this lovely village and check out some of the local shops, galleries and cafes.

From Bangalow, continue onwards to Byron and check in to your centrally located beachside accommodation. For those who are thirsty and would like to finish a great day off with a drink, a complimentary drop off at the famous Stone and Wood Brewery about 5 mins drive up the road from your accommodation will be provided (please note, return transfer not included - taxi or Uber readily available or a 30 minute walk)

Located just steps away from beautiful Belongil Beach, with its own private walkway to the beach and only a short 5 minute walk to the centre of town, Beachcomber provides a stress-free setting for your time in Byron Bay. Spend your time exploring the vibrant township of Byron Bay, strolling up to the lighthouse via the beach, or simply while away the hours chilling by the pool.

Overnight: Byron Beachcomber Resort, Byron Bay
Meals included: Breakfast;Lunch

This morning or afternoon you will be picked up from your accommodation and enjoy an Aboriginal guided tour of Cape Byron or Broken Head (location and timing subject to weather conditions and availability) led by local Arakwal Bundjalung woman Delta Kay. On this tour, you will be taken on a moderate 2km return walk while learning about significant places and hearing local history and traditional stories. There are opportunities to learn some Bundjalung language and about bush food, natural medicine, tools, weapons and artefacts. The tour is a fascinating insight into a little-known part of the Byron Shire story.

During the tour, guests often see an abundance of wildlife, such as dolphins, wallabies and Fairy Wrens to name a few. From the coastal rainforest to crashing waves and rocky cliffs, the views on this tour are truly special. We suggest that you bring binoculars, especially in winter and spring as there are great opportunities to spot migrating whales.

Finish the day back at your accommodation and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

Please note: In the event Delta Kay is unavailable, an alternative morning or afternoon guided tour of Broken Head will be provided, although this will not be led by an Aboriginal guide. See the description of the alternative activity below:

This morning or afternoon you will be picked up from your accommodation and enjoy a 2 hour guided 2.4km walk around the beautiful Broken Head Nature Reserve south of Byron Bay. During this walk, we will look for wildlife, dolphins, rays, turtles, whales (June-Oct), and all sorts of birds. Here we explore several ecosystems, including; littoral rainforest, cottonwoods, paperbark forest and beach.

Please note: Delta Kay is unavailable on the 14 May and 11 June 2021 departure dates and the alternative activity above will be provided.

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction in which he or she is guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves the group at the end of the tour, they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides in each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village, and offer information on the place visited on the bus, however they are not required to have specific knowledge on art, architecture, or history.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when particularly required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Byron Shire Climate
Byron Bay’s mild, temperate climate makes it a perfect place to holiday year round. With sunny days and warm temperatures common for most of the year, Byron Bay is the ideal beach holiday destination.

Winter in Byron Bay (June-Aug)
The coldest month in Byron Bay is July where the average daily maximum is 20 ºC and the minimum 11.5 ºC. Surfers will need a wetsuit, but the water is clear and the skies are generally cloud free and perfect for warming yourself in the sun.

Spring in Byron Bay (Sep-Nov)
Spring in Byron Bay is a premium time to visit with smaller crowds and the days growing longer and warmer. This time of year also has the lowest average rainfall, making it a great pre-summer break. The water at this time is warming up and wetsuits begin to peel off.

Summer in Byron Bay (Dec-Feb)
Although this period has the hottest days (average around 27 ºC), the evenings often have showers, cooling the temperature down. The ocean is warm and perfect for days on the beach, but don’t forget your sunscreen and hat, as sunburn is common. The hottest time of year in Byron Bay is also the busiest, coinciding with school holidays.

Autumn in Byron Bay (Mar-May)
Average temperatures in Byron Bay stay warm (in the mid-20's) right up to the onset of Winter. The water is still warm though and the end of daylight saving also means warmer mornings. The crowds thin as school begins and the drop in heat makes it easier to stay longer on the beach.

COACH TOUR
Meals
Some meals are included in the tour, for all other meals; lunches and dinners the tour leader (when available) will offer assistance with reservations, suggestions and directions to local restaurants.
