About the optional tour:
Experience the magnificent grandeur of the West MacDonnell Ranges on this fascinating one day tour. Marvel at towering fiery red walls set aglow by the desert sun as you drive along the ranges. Tour through these amazing ranges all day and stop at beautiful gorges and waterholes, where we can enjoy a refreshing swim in the warmer months.

Itinerary:

Your guide will collect you from outside your Alice Springs accommodation.
You’ll see spectacular outback scenery and have ample photo opportunities as we travel along the magnificent West MacDonnell Ranges, stopping at historic sites.
Morning:
Enjoy beautiful walks at Simpsons Gap, Standley Chasm (for morning tea), the Ochre Pits, and Ormiston Gorge.
Lunchtime / Early Afternoon:
Our next stop is at Glen Helen for a sit-down buffet lunch. On our way back to Alice Springs, we stop to spend time at Ellery Creek Big Hole. This waterhole is one of Central Australia’s most pristine, so don’t forget your swimmers in the warmer months!
Late Afternoon / Evening:
The panoramic landscapes of the West MacDonnell Ranges are extraordinary for their immensity and the spectacular array of sunburnt oranges, maroons and purples on display. In the winter months, these mighty ranges light up in brilliant oranges and reds at sunset on the return journey to Alice Springs. You can expect to be back at your accommodation at approximately 5:30 pm.
 
INCLUSIONS INFORMATION
Merne: An Exclusive Dinner in the Desert - 10th April 2021
- The bush tucker-inspired dinner will take place on the 10th of April 2021 regardless of what check-in date you purchase.
- A contemporary take on traditional bush tucker, paired with premium Australian beer and wine. As the sun goes down, the desert will come alive and you’ll be treated to a spectacular light show spanning the majestic ranges, plus special performances and entertainment.
Venue: Sand Country Marquee, Desert Park, Alice Springs Desert Park, Larrapinta Drive, Alice Springs NT 0871. Coach transfers available. Time: 19:00 – 22:30
 
Outback Hot Air Ballooning
- The outback hot air ballooning will be held on day 2 of your stay.
Experience the breathtaking feeling of floating silently above the Outback as the sun slowly rises over the desert on this awe-inspiring ballooning adventure.
- Journey to the launch site in the cool pre dawn darkness and begin the ascent just as the morning light begins to illuminate the rugged MacDonnell Ranges. Float gently across the vast expanse of the Central Australian outback – keeping an eye out for native wildlife including the iconic red kangaroo and gain an appreciation of the remoteness of the area as the balloon glides across the landscape.
- After landing, you may become involved in assisting the crew as they pack the nylon balloon away or may prefer to take photographs, the choice is yours.
- At the ballooning landing site, there is time to enjoy the desert tranquillity as light refreshments accompanied by sparkling wine and fruit juice are served. There is an opportunity to purchase ballooning souvenirs and a commemorative flight certificate is given to all participants.
- Flight distance will typically be between 10 and 20 kilometres. The balloon flight takes place approximately 15 kilometres to the south of Alice Springs adjacent to the MacDonnell Ranges and over the historic Owen Springs Cattle Station. 
- Return transfers from all accommodation in Alice Springs is included with every flight. Pick up time is approximately 1 hour before first light – time will be given when booking and exact time will be confirmed when you re-confirm the day prior to flight booked. Transfers (at the end of tour) to the airport or other tours are available on request.
- Option to upgrade to a 60 minute flight can be requested after booking, prior to travel for an additional $70 paid directly to merchant. 
Please note: Depending on many operational factors, which vary each day, you may be on the ground or in the balloon when the sun is actually coming over the horizon or rising, either way you will still see an amazing dawn.
 
Outback Ballooning Child Policy 
- Children under six are not recommended although can be considered upon request. 
- Child age is 6-16 years.
 
GENERAL HEALTH
- Physical fitness is not a requirement to enjoy a ballooning adventure, but passengers must be able to climb up and into the balloon basket (approx. 1.2 metres in height) unaided. There are foot holes, which act like a ladder. Everyone must stand upright for the duration of the flight, as there are no seats in the basket, but there are secure high sides to lean on.
- Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) rules and regulations and Outback Ballooning’s policy prevent us from flying women who are over 12 weeks pregnant. Pregnancy must be advised in advance.
- Illness and/or recent operations that may affect the person or other persons on the tour must be notified to Outback Ballooning in advance. Medication should be brought on the tour.
- The packing up tasks at the end of the flight are optional and we do appreciate assistance in these enjoyable activities. However, they do involve some lifting and participation is entirely voluntary. Passengers that are less able bodied are invited to stand back and take photos.
- Persons with medical conditions participating in the balloon flight and pack up activities do so at their own risk.
- Any form of disablement must be discussed with Outback Ballooning prior to making a booking.  Each person is considered on an individual basis.
- The flight and carriage of any passenger will take place at the pilot’s discretion.
 
PROPERTY POLICY
- Bookings are essential and subject to availability.
- Any changes to confirmed bookings are at the discretion of the property and charges may apply.
- Travel insurance is strongly recommended. We suggest purchasing travel insurance as soon as possible after purchasing this voucher.
- All activities and services are subject to availability.
- Additional expenses such as (but not limited to) flights are not included with this voucher.
- Package cannot be split.

If refunds are not available from Suppliers, we will endeavour to obtain a travel credit on the best terms available and communicate these outcomes to you.
