3 Day Fraser Island Adventure

  • A self drive 4WD tour of magical Fraser Island
  • Discover Lake McKenzie, Eli Creek & 75 Mile Beach
Includes return ferry, 4WD hire, accom. & permits

It may be the world’s largest sand island, but the diverse wonders found on World Heritage listed Fraser Island are no desert mirage. It’s a lush, subtropical paradise - a shining jewel of crystal waters and blinding white beaches, of verdant rainforest and abundant wildlife. It’s also an adventurer’s dream come true with no less than 90km of walking trails, a rusty shipwreck on the shoreline, a 120km ‘beach highway’ and so much more! Isn’t it time you discovered Fraser Island?

This three day self-drive adventure ex Hervey Bay is the perfect way to explore the island, with an included 4WD vehicle, return ferry transfers, personalised itinerary, and accommodation. During the trip you’ll discover all the local icons including the freshwater Lake McKenzie, the coloured sands of the Pinnacles, the bubbling waters of the Champagne Pools, the Maheno wreck, and the crystal-clear waters of Eli Creek. Be sure to keep an eye out for wild dingoes and birdlife too!

Two person packages will stay in a Standard Hotel Room at the popular Eurong Beach Resort, while four and six person packages stay at the self-catering Bringabeeralong Beach House located nearby.

ITINERARY

Show All Info

Make your own way to Hervey Bay and collect the hired 4WD (Automatic Prado) and begin your adventure to Fraser Island, a precious part of Australia's natural and cultural heritage.

Head to the Hervey Bay Ferry Terminal and take the ferry over to Fraser Island (included) at your required time.

Upon arrival, take the time to watch and learn about the tides as you drive around Fraser Island with a personalised itinerary that coincides with the low tides on 75 Mile Beach (Fraser's Eastern Beach). You can safely drive along to see the Maheno Shipwreck and the coloured sands of The Pinnacles. Stop at the famous Eli Creek, which pours up to four million litres of clear, fresh water into the ocean every hour. Eli Creek is a popular picnic and swimming spot, with a boardwalk that follows the creek inland through banksia and pandanus scrub.

This afternoon, check in to your accommodation and enjoy the evening at leisure.

Please note:
- 2 person packages include accommodation at Eurong Beach Resort in a Standard Hotel Room, with breakfast included
- 4 & 6 person packages include accommodation at ‘Bringabeeralong’ Beach House with BBQ and kitchen facilities included (consumables not provided)

Overnight: Eurong Beach Resort or ‘Bringabeeralong’ Beach House, Fraser Island

Today continue exploring Fraser Island at your own pace. You can go as far as Indian Head and the Champagne Pools, a popular swimming spot known for the jacuzzi-like effect as waves spill into the natural pools.

Inland, be mesmerised by Lake McKenzie and Lake Wabby. Lake McKenzie, one of the most visited natural wonders in Australia and a must-do on any Fraser Island bucket list. Referred to as Boorangoora (meaning waters of wisdom) by traditional owners of the land, the Butchulla people, Lake McKenzie’s famous turquoise swirls have earned it the title of jewel of the island.

The safe, calm waters of the lake make it the perfect place for a relaxing picnic by the shore. Fun fact: the high, natural acidity levels of the lake make it virtually impossible for most plant and fish life to flourish.

This little gem is accessible by 4WD on the inland tracks (about 5-6km drive from Central Station), and is a popular day-spot for tour groups. You can also access this tranquil spot by foot, on one of the hiking trails on the island – including a return-loop from Kingfisher Bay Resort and the Fraser Island Great Walk.

Unlike the other lakes of the island, Lake Wabby supports several varieties of fish. Situated relatively close to the ocean side of Fraser Island, it is known as both a window lake and a barrage lake. Window lakes form when the ground level falls below the water table.

Overnight: Eurong Beach Resort or ‘Bringabeeralong’ Beach House, Fraser Island

Enjoy your last day on the world’s largest sand island, the only place where tall rainforests grow on sand dunes. Be amazed by the ancient ferns and rainforest of the popular camping area ‘Central Station’, while still having plenty of time to get the 3:00pm or 5:00pm barge back to Hervey Bay.

Drop the rental vehicle off and make your own onwards travel arrangements.
