Following breakfast, enjoy a few hours at leisure. In the afternoon, travel to Sigiriya and enjoy a tour of the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sigiriya is the fifth century rock citadel of King Kasyapa. Step through the gigantic 'Lion Paws’, set overlooking the symmetrical royal gardens, to comprehend the splendour that once dominated this rock fortress. Surrounded by ramparts and moats, the Lion Rock is coated by frescoes that relate to Gupta style paintings found in the Ajanta caves of India. Wander into the museum downstairs for an insight into how the citadel floated above citizens, and learn about the advanced ponds and irrigation that pumped water right onto its summit through an ingenious hydraulic system.

Travel Tip: Don’t forget to take a bottle of water and a face towel as it can be quite warm on the ascent. Do not take pictures of the frescos, as it can be a punishable offence according to the rule of the archeological department.

Overnight: Kandalama/Sigiriya Hotel (Standard or Premium Option)
Meals included: Breakfast

Enjoy today at leisure, or join one or both of the following optional tours:

Optional Activity: Morning Polonnaruwa City Tour by Tuk Tuk - $100 AUD (approx. 3 hours)
Rising with the decline of Anuradhapura, the city of Polonnaruwa - medieval capital and crown jewel of King Parakramabahu I - remains superior proof of ancient culture and heritage blended with religious beliefs. Walk among the scattered walls of this World Heritage Site, dotted with stupas, resting Buddha statues, fantastically carved Hindu sculptures and stone carvings at the relic house, Vatadage.

Optional Activity: Half Day Jeep Safari in Minneriya NP - $110 AUD per person (approx 2 hours)
Experience an afternoon safari at Minneriya National Park. If you're up for a serious rumble in the jungle, then Minneriya is the place to go! Spread over 8800 hectares, it’s a sanctuary for elephants and home to herds of deer and ample birdlife, but its spotlight remains between swaying trunks and flapping ears. Park your jeep on the bank of the reservoir and switch off the engine. Have the opportunity to see herds of elephants - one by one - roll on to the grass-covered banks, to feed on tender shoots. In fact, this is the largest elephant gathering in the world (over 300 at a time) – it’s an absolute must-do for wildlife enthusiasts.

Please Note: The length of this Optional Tour may vary depending on wildlife sightings that day.

Overnight: Kandalama / Sigiriya Hotel (Standard or Premium Option)
Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast, depart to Kandy. On the way, stop in Dambulla for some free time (approx. 2 hours). Alternatively, join an optional tour of the Dambulla Rock Cave Temple (not included).

Optional Tour: Dambulla Rock Cave Temple - $30 AUD per person (approx. 2 hours)
The Dambulla Rock Cave Temple has been treasured by many kings since the first century B.C. An icon of Sri Lanka, Dambulla Rock Cave Temple features five magnificently constructed cave temples flanking the golden temple of Dambulla. Observe the exquisite cave paintings along walls that shelter 150 statues of Lord Buddha. As you enter the retreat, be sure to cast your eyes up to the gigantic Buddha statue glittering in gold.

Afterwards, continue to Kandy. On arrival, enjoy a guided city tour (approx. 2.5 hours). Kandy was the last royal capital of Sri Lankan kings – a centre of culture, history and heritage. Experience the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha (entrance not included). A stroll across this small lakeside town cradled among the misty hills will take in the Kandy city centre as well as a bazaar, an arts and crafts centre, as well as a gem and lapidary museum.

Enjoy the evening by stepping to the beat of traditional music and drumming, amplified by a cultural show enhancing the rich and vibrant culture of the Wonder of Asia, Sri Lanka. Afterwards, be transferred to the hotel.

Overnight: Kandy Hotel (Standard or Premium Option)
Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast, depart to Nuwara Eliya. On the way, stop in Peradeniya and visit the Royal Botanical Garden (entrance not included). Walk into this 147 acre bliss of an experience, passing well tended lawns, pavilions & an octagon conservatory to be greeted by the vast expanse of magnificently landscaped gardens. Highlights include the orchid house & giant Javan fig tree.

Afterwards proceed to Nuwara Eliya and enjoy a short guided city tour (approx. 1 hour). Misty steep roads, twisting through lush green blankets of tea bushes in a cool climate, remind visitors that they are within the range of the renowned British colonial retreat, Nuwara Eliya. Augmented by an English countryside atmosphere, the city of light - once governed by English & Scottish planters - is still studded with colonial bungalows, hedgerows & one of the finest 18- hole golf courses in the world. A hike through the green grass and red-brick walls should present breathtaking views of a buzzing countryside hamlet. Drive through green valleys of the hill country pierced by endless waterfalls & dotted by tea pluckers draped in bright-coloured saris.

Overnight: Nuwara Eliya Hotel (Standard or Premium Option)
Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast, depart to Nanu Oya railway station to embark the train to Ella, considered one of Sri Lanka’s most scenic train journeys. Sit back and enjoy the awe-inspiring scenery as you pass through the lush green hills covered in tea plantations, charming villages, waterfalls and old bridges, while being greeted by local children running beside the train tracks.

Upon arrival in Ella, be transferred to the hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

Please note: Due to limited availability, the Nanu Oya to Ella train journey may be replaced with an Ella to Haputale train journey on Day 7. In this instance, customers will travel from Nuwara Eliya to Ella via coach. Train tickets are strictly subject to availability, and will be confirmed upon arrival in Sri Lanka.

Overnight: Ella Hotel (Standard or Premium Option)
Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast, enjoy the morning at leisure. If you are feeling adventurous, you might like to join an optional trek to Mini Adams Peak (not included).

Optional Tour: Mini Adams Peak Trek - $15 AUD per person (approx. 2 hours return)
A quaint hillside village offering the most amazing views in all of Sri Lanka, Ella is ideal for leisurely treks. Trudge through tea plantations, temple sites and waterfalls throughout the morning on the way to Mini Adams Peak. Once you reach the summit, be greeted by a breathtaking view of endless rolling hills and lush green mountains.

Please Note: while this trek includes plenty of stairs, the hike is one of the more easy-going in Ella, with a well marked and paved trail.

Afterwards, travel to the south coast city of Galle. On the way, stop at Ella's iconic Nine Arch Bridge. Then continue to Galle and enjoy a guided walking tour of Galle city on arrival. Galle, the epic Southern capital, is the intersection where classic Dutch architecture meets a tropical setting creating a vivid atmosphere in beauty. Walk the Dutch-haunted streets listening to the creaks of wooden saloon doors and observe how European architecture mingles with South Asian traditions. Galle’s original ramparts and bastions showcase evidence of a heritage preserved for more than three and a half centuries. Walk clockwise within the fort to observe the 'old gate' carrying the British coat of arms. Flanking the old gate is the Zwart bastion - the oldest of all - and the lighthouse standing 18 feet in its glory next to the Point Utrecht Bastion. This Dutch bliss is painted with streets that spread in a rectangular grid pattern pierced with houses carrying Dutch colonial style verandas.

Upon completion, return to the hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction in which he or she is guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves the group at the end of the tour, they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides in each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village, and offer information on the place visited on the bus, however they are not required to have specific knowledge on art, architecture, or history. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when particularly required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Sri Lanka:
Sri Lanka is a year-round destination with two monsoon seasons so there is a lot of confusion around when is the best time to visit. The weather doesn’t run like clockwork here! However, there will rarely be weather so dramatic that it will stand in the way of a brilliant holiday with plenty of warm weather and sunshine. The temperature is constant at around 27°C on the coast, both the air and the water!

FLIGHTS
Seat Selection & Frequent Flyer Points:
At TripADeal we do not arrange seat selection. It is important to highlight that some Airlines do not allow pre-selected seats. We strongly suggest you contact the Airline directly with seating allocation requirements and or arrive at the airport earlier to arrange your seating. While we do not add frequent flyer member details to bookings, you can do this directly with the Airline once you have your flight information.

Passport Validity:
Customers are required to provide valid passport details either at the time of purchase, or no later than 45 days prior to departure date. Failure to do so may result in cancellation of the booking. In this instance customers will be responsible for any costs and fees incurred.

COACH TOUR
Meals:
Daily breakfast is included in the tour, for all other meals; lunches and dinners the tour leader (when available) will offer assistance with reservations, suggestions and directions to local restaurants. It is your responsibility to notify TripADeal of any dietary requests/requirements. Please note; we will do our best to meet your requests/requirements, however cannot guarantee that we will always be able to.

Luggage:
You will be responsible for all your personal belongings whilst on the tour. With regards to luggage, you must carry your own luggage from the coach to the hotel room and back to the coach. The driver will assist with the uploading and off-loading of the luggage from the coach.

OTHER

Our vehicles are not equipped with wheelchair access, so unfortunately our tours are currently not suitable for wheelchair users and those less mobile.
Please note: a general level of fitness will be required. If you have any concerns please consult your healthcare provider prior to purchase/travel.

Yellow Fever:
A valid international certificate of vaccination against Yellow Fever is required in many countries. You may need to present this on arrival at the airport or border crossing. Some countries will refuse entry if you are unable to present your certificate. It's also quite common for your home country to request a Yellow Fever certificate on your arrival back home.

It is your responsibility to check with your doctor well in advance of leaving home about the Yellow Fever requirements for the countries you'll be visiting.

Gratuities / Tipping:
Gratuities (tips) are not included in the tour price for services of the tour leader (when available) and driver throughout the tour. The recommended tip is $5 USD per person per day this covers the guide/leader and the driver, which will be collected whilst on tour.

Tipping for all services provided on tour is always a matter of personal discretion, however please be aware that tipping is considered by many locals to be a part of their normal remuneration and they may approach you for payment and there is no need to be intimidated by the request.

Sightseeing:
Please note: In the event entrance to a site is affected by changes in operating hours or public holiday closures, your itinerary where possible, will be adjusted or an similar activity will be offered in its place (subject to availability).

Shopping:
Shopping overseas can be a daunting and confusing experience, especially when there is a language barrier. Please be very cautious when foreign currencies and prices are involved. If paying by credit card, please pay close attention to the amount you are being charged and keep all of your receipts.

Do not make any purchases you are not comfortable with or feel pressured into. If you are uncertain or need assistance with the language barrier, please seek assistance from your Tour Guide/Leader.

Please refer to our Terms and Conditions in regards to shopping for further information.

Sri Lanka
A Tourist Visa for Sri Lanka is a strict requirement if travelling on an Australian Passport. You will be able to start your Visa application process once you receive your final travel documentation approximately 6 weeks prior to departure.

TripADeal offers a fast, secure and easy service to obtain a Visa for this country. This E-visa can take approximately 4 business days to complete.

Please note: Passengers who are not Australian citizens must check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required. It is also important to note, some areas of employment such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations may have additional restrictions in applying for Visas. This may in turn affect the type of application required.
