Meals included: None

After breakfast this morning, enjoy a guided city tour of Casablanca with your tour leader. Begin the tour at Hassan II Mosque, Africa's largest Mosque. View this wondrous structure from the exterior. Its minaret is the tallest structure in Morocco, and also one of the tallest minarets in the world.

Afterwards, enjoy a visit to the ‘Old Medina’ and the Hobous, Casablanca’s ‘New Medina’. Here you can take in some splendid art deco architecture. Next, you’ll have the opportunity to take a leisurely stroll along the Boulevard de la Corniche, before heading towards Rabat.

Later today, be transferred to Casablanca train station for your train journey to Rabat (approx. 1 hour). Upon arrival, enjoy a guided tour of Rabat, Morocco’s capital. A certain highlight will be seeing the crenellated red ochre walls that were built during the rule of Sultan Yacoub El-Mansour, and extend more than 5 kilometres. The tour continues onwards through the Medina’s main monuments. Visit the Kasbah des Oudaias, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and Hassan Tower (entrances included). Also, be treated to a visit of the charming area of Sale. Along the way enjoy views of the Chellah, a medieval fortified Muslim necropolis. Upon conclusion of the tour, be transferred to your hotel for check-in.

Overnight: Onomo Hotel Rabat Terminus or similar, Rabat
Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast, be transferred to Rabat train station for your scenic journey to Tangier (approx. 2 hours). The city of Tangier still retains a powerful charm to this day with bustling alleys in the Petit Socco area to the many café terraces. Explore Tangier with your tour leader and discover how its fascinating medina influenced artists such as Eugène Delacroix, Henri Matisse, Paul Bowles and many others. You will discover the old Mendoub Palace, built-in 1929, situated to the north of the medina, which is now a mansion for foreign VIPs, plus the museum of the old American Legation, which was one of the first public American properties outside of the United States.

Afterwards, continue on to Cap Spartel, about 12km from Tangier. It’s an ideal spot to admire the Atlantic Ocean. On the way, stop to visit Hercules Cave. According to legend, the mythical Greek half-god rested here after digging the Strait of Gibraltar. Later in the afternoon, enjoy the scenic drive to Chefchaouen as the flat plains and green hills transform into the mountainous landscape of the Rif mountains. You'll pass through many small traditional towns along the way.

Overnight: Dar Echchaouen Hotel or similar, Chefchaouen
Meals included: Breakfast

Nestled in the foothills of the Rif mountains, just inland from the Mediterranean coast, is Morocco’s Blue city - Chefchaouen (sometimes just ‘Chaouen’). This hidden gem is often named as one of the world’s most beautiful cities. Enjoy free time to immerse yourself in the blue-washed old streets, vividly painted buildings, alleys and paths. Throughout the day the town glows in different shades from subtle aquamarine to vivid blue as the sun travels through the sky.

After exploring Chefchaoeun, head to the Roman town ruins of Volubilis. Listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, Volubilis contains Morocco’s best-preserved Roman history. Despite damage caused by the 1755 earthquake, this important Roman town managed to retain some detailed and very beautiful mosaics. With your tour leader take the time to wander the massive complex and explore large merchant homes with visible heating systems underneath, temples, and many colourful mosaics still well preserved in the present.

Your journey will continue towards Meknes, one of Morocco’s four Imperial Cities. Meknes is possibly the least well-known – not as large as Rabat, as fashionable as Marrakech, or as famous as Fez – yet this is to its advantage, as you’ll find this historic place quieter and more laid back than its sister cities. Enjoy a guided tour of the city with your tour leader. Arrive into Fez late this afternoon and check into the hotel.

Overnight: Riad Salam or similar, Fez
Meals included: Breakfast

This morning, enjoy a guided city tour of Fez with a local guide. See Islamic architecture, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, historic monuments and Jewish Heritage (Synagogue and Mellah). Fez is an Imperial City that has stood in the north of Morocco for a thousand years. Within its sturdy walls, you’ll find a place where old Morocco still exists – in the elaborate architecture, the historic medina and the people that make their home here.

Visit the famous medina in Fez, which is one of the largest in the world. In its immense and at times confusing warren of souks, there are thousands of artisans in their tiny shops opening onto the narrow alleyways. The medina of Fez is a totally absorbing experience. Walk through the high walled streets, watch the daily procession of mourners entering the tomb of Fez’s founder Moulay Idriss II, and see the ornate carvings and mosaics on every surface. Enjoy visits to the Medina: Souks, Tanneries, Madersas, Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and Fez University with your local guide before heading back to the hotel.

Overnight: Riad Salam or similar, Fez
Meals included: Breakfast

This morning, be transferred to Fez train station for your trip to Marrakech (approx. 4 hours). Arrive in Marrakech, an evocative walled city, this afternoon. Upon arrival, be transferred to your hotel and enjoy time at leisure to discover the city at your own pace. You may like to see Jemaa El Fna Square in the heart of Marrakech, where music and local folklore are displayed in a setting from Arabian Nights. This evening delight in a traditional dinner at the Riad.

Overnight: Riad Nasreen or similar, Marrakech
Meals included: Breakfast;Dinner

Marrakech. Its name alone conjures up images of a cultural melting pot – sandstone buildings, dusty streets and towering minarets against deep blue skies. Known as the ‘Red City’ thanks to the hue of the thick walls which surround the old city, Marrakech has been a popular tourist stop in Morocco since the 1960s, attracting everyone from the Beatles to Sienna Miller.

Enjoy a guided tour of the city today with a local guide. You will start by the Koutoubia Mosque, the largest mosque in Marrakech, famed for its minaret which has inspired other buildings such as the Hassan Tower of Rabat; and Saadian tombs, which date back to the time of Sultan Ahmed al-Mansur. These remarkable tombs are renowned for their beauty, in particular their steles and stucco-work. Continue onwards to Bahia Palace and museum. Built to be the most impressive palace of its time, the building captures the essence of both Islamic and Moroccan style. You will also see the Menara gardens, the city’s famous botanical gardens. The tour ends in the Jemaa el Fna, where the town becomes a maze of bazaars, palaces and mosques. It is worth seeing this renowned landmark in the evening, as Marrakech revolves around the open-air central square. It is a place of night-time entertainment for both local people and tourists. You may spend the remainder of the day at leisure.

Overnight: Riad Nasreen or similar, Marrakech
Meals included: Breakfast

Today’s journey takes you up and over the High Atlas Mountains. Mount Toubkal (4,167m); the highest peak in the Moroccan Atlas range can often be seen throughout the journey. The Berbers (the Mountain People) live here. To see their villages and to observe their daily life is truly fascinating. You may stop in the little village of Taddert for a refreshment along the way, where you will also be given the opportunity to visit an Argan Oil Co-Operative.

The road continues to snake upwards to the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass (2,260m), the highest vehicular pass in the country. From here you will experience spectacular panoramic views over the southern valleys and Atlas Mountains (weather dependent).

On the way down, stop quickly at Aït Benhaddou, an ancient fortified village and a UNESCO world heritage site. Don’t worry, you will have time to further explore the fortified village on day 13. You’ll then continue towards Ouarzazate at the edge of the Sahara desert, and along the road of thousand Kasbah and Kelaat M’gouna. Before finally arriving in Boumalen Dades to check in to your accommodation.

Overnight: Hotel Xaluca or similar, Boumalen Dades
Meals included: Breakfast;Dinner

Today, enjoy soft hiking and a cultural immersion experience in the Atlas mountains. Your local guide will take you for a walk through the green oasis and Berber villages at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. You will have plenty of time to encounter the local Berber inhabitants, gaining insights into their traditions and way of life. The walk continues near Dades Gorges, a series of rugged wadi gorges carved out by the Dadès River. You will also have the privilege to have a meal in a local family home and learn how to prepare mint tea in traditional Berber fashion. In the afternoon, be transferred back to your hotel in Boumalen Dades for some time at leisure.

Overnight: Hotel Xaluca or similar, Boumalen Dades
Meals included: Breakfast;Lunch;Dinner

After breakfast, continue to the town of Tinerhir, famous for its huge palmary and canyons. Along the way, stop at Todra Gorge and enjoy a short walk to marvel at this spectacular natural site. The gorge is around 300m high and was carved by the Todra and Dades rivers, cutting down through red-stained limestones.

Afterwards, head towards Erfoud. Morocco’s dates and fossils capital. You will have the opportunity to visit a craft workshop where fossil-rich rocks are carefully and skilfully crafted into objects. Next, you will travel to Rissani, a traditional Moroccan market which will feel like your stepping back in time. Its confluence of Berber and Arab cultures and rural desert setting make it one of the best towns to experience the traditional Moroccan culture. Finally, you will notice the landscape change as you approach Merzouga, the closest town to the Sahara dunes. As you approach the city you will get your first glimpse of the massive sand sea of Erg Chebbi, looming on the horizon. Here the sand dunes rise to an impressive 200m.

Start your desert adventure on camel back and take the time to be amazed by the sunset as you sit atop the large sand dunes. Dinner will be provided at your accommodation in the desert this evening.  At night, join the local guides for a campfire complete with traditional music and stargazing. If you are an early riser, then a Saharan sunrise can be just as thrilling as a Saharan sunset.

Overnight: Tiziri Desert Camp or similar, Erg Chebbi (Desert Experience)
Meals included: Breakfast;Dinner

After breakfast, you’ll head to the extended palm oasis of Draa. Located in the deep south of Morocco, the Draa Valley stretches from the city of Ouarzazate into the Sahara Desert. Home to a stunning oasis home of Berber villages, sumptuous Kasbahs, streaming sand dunes, lush green plains, snow-capped Atlas Mountains, endless stretches of palm trees and the Draa, Morocco’s largest river.

In the afternoon, travel to the town of Agdz and drive across the Ait Saoun mountain pass to reach Ouarzazate. A city of palm trees, sandy streets and blocky, fort-like buildings, this is the Morocco seen in countless movies. The name Ouarzazate comes from the Amazigh for ‘quiet place’, and compared to many of its fellow Moroccan towns and cities, there is a certain calm to be found here. Check in to the hotel later today.

Overnight: Hotel Dar Chamaa or similar, Ouarzazate
Meals included: Breakfast

This morning head to the Ksar of Aït Benhaddou, one of the most famous ancient fortified villages in Morocco and a UNESCO world heritage site. It has been featured in many movies, portraying landscapes all over the desert, Africa, and the middle east. Some popular film credits include Lawrence of Arabia, The Last Temptation of Christ, Alexander, Gladiator, Game of Thrones and many more. After comprehensive exploration with your tour leader, head across the Ounila valley to reach Marrakech later this afternoon. You may take the remainder of today at leisure.
