Meals included: In-Flight

Arrive at Athens airport, where you will be met by a tour representative and transferred to the hotel.

Overnight: President Hotel Athens or similar, Athens
Meals included: None

Today, enjoy a half-day city tour of Athens with a local guide (approx. 5 hours).

On this city tour, you will be amazed by the striking contrast between grand monuments of the past and the elegant structures of modern Athens. Visit the Acropolis (entrance included), the crowning beauty and glory of Ancient Athens. Highlights atop its rocky surface include the iconic Parthenon, the Propylaea, the temple of Athena Nike, and the Erechtheion, with its Porch of Maidens. From Mars Hill take in an excellent view of the ancient agora; former centre of the Athenian public life. Continue on with a visit to the Acropolis Museum (entrance included) to admire the marble masterpieces uncovered at the Acropolis.

Next, drive to the Roman Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Panathinaiko Stadium (site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896), and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of the Parliament House on Constitution Square. To finish the tour, drive along Panepistimiou Avenue and view the Catholic Cathedral, the Academy, University, and the National Library. The remainder of the day is yours to spend at leisure.

Overnight: President Hotel Athens or similar, Athens
Meals included: Breakfast

Today, enjoy a day at leisure in this historical city. Perhaps take a stroll in the “heart” of the historical centre, where there is a traditional commercial neighbourhood of more than 2,500 shops surrounding Ermou Street (the city’s best-known commercial street). The western border of the area, Athinas Street, is strongly reminiscent of a Middle Eastern food market. Here you’ll also spot the neoclassical mansions of the Town Hall, the Municipal Market (where meat, fish and vegetables are sold) and spacious Kotzias Square.

Alternatively, join an optional full day tour to Epidaurus and Nafplio.

Optional Tour: Epidaurus & Nafplio Full Day Tour - $115 per person
Following breakfast this morning, drive south along the coastal road of the Saronic Gulf. Passing the famous Corinth Canal, you will reach Epidaurus, located in the hilly countryside dotted with pine trees and oleanders. In this magnificent setting, you’ll visit the open-air theatre that can still seat around 13,000 spectators (entrance included). The theatre is marvelled for its exceptional acoustics, which permits almost perfect intelligibility of non-amplified spoken word from the proscenium or scene to all spectators, regardless of their seating. Afterwards, continue on to Nafplion. This charming seaside town, the former capital of the Kingdom of Greece, captures the essence of European lifestyle with an abundance of cafes and shops to peruse. The town’s architecture, the annex of the National Gallery, the Venetian Castle of Palamidi, among many other sites, offer a good chance for a tour in history. Return back to Athens in the late afternoon.

Overnight: President Hotel Athens or similar, Athens
Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast, enjoy a morning at leisure. Early this afternoon be transferred to Athens cruise port, Piraeus, to embark on your wondrous seven night Mediterranean cruise aboard the four-star ‘MSC Musica’ ship. The cruise departs at 4:30pm this afternoon.

Overnight: MSC Cruises - ‘MSC Musica’ ship
Meals included: Breakfast;Dinner

Corfu's vineyards and olive orchards thrive amid rocky mountains on this westernmost Greek isle. Stopping at Corfu is a great opportunity to explore narrow streets lined with tourist shops, be immersed in the lush greenery: olive trees, orange trees, and cypresses, as well as enjoy cultural events that often take place in the walled city. Corfu Town, flanked by two imposing Venetian fortresses, features winding medieval lanes, a French-style arcade and the grand Palace of St. Michael and St. George. One of the best excursions includes an island outing that explores the beaches and countryside (not included).

Overnight: MSC Cruises - ‘MSC Musica’ ship
Meals included: Breakfast;Lunch;Dinner

The medieval old town of Kotor is the undisputed jewel in Montenegro’s crown. Though no longer Europe’s best-kept secret, Kotor’s rapid rise to the tour-cruise league has failed to dim the timeless delights of its cobbled alleyways and secluded piazzas. Enclosing cafés and churches galore, the town walls are themselves watched over upon by a series of hulking peaks.

Overnight: MSC Cruises - ‘MSC Musica’ ship
Meals included: Breakfast;Lunch;Dinner

A ‘floating’ masterpiece in northeastern Italy, and capital of the Veneto region, Venice is situated on a group of 118 small islands separated by canals and linked by more than 400 bridges. Though easily explored on your own, a shore excursion can be a clever option for visiting monuments that draw the largest crowds in Venice: the Basilica di San Marco – the mausoleum of the city’s patron saint – and the Palazzo Ducale – the home of the doge and all the governing councils. Certainly, these are the most dramatic structures in Venice: the first a mosaic-clad emblem of Venice’s Byzantine origins, the second perhaps the finest of all secular Gothic buildings.

Overnight: MSC Cruises - ‘MSC Musica’ ship
Meals included: Breakfast;Lunch;Dinner

Once a bridging point for crusading knights and now a stop not to be missed on a Mediterranean cruise. These days little has changed in the city of Brindisi, except that its pilgrims are now sun-seekers rather than soul-seekers. Perhaps take the opportunity to visit the old town, which has a pleasant, almost oriental flavour, and a few hidden gems tucked down its narrow streets.

Overnight: MSC Cruises - ‘MSC Musica’ ship
Meals included: Breakfast;Lunch;Dinner

Katakolon is a petite seaside town in the bay of Agios Andreas, just 20km away from the ancient site of Olympia. According to many legends, Zeus held the first Olympic Games to celebrate besting his father Kronos at wrestling. This is the birthplace of the ideal that still brings the world together, differences aside, for the sake of friendly athletic competition.

Do not miss the chance to visit the archaeological site of Olympia, one of the largest in Greece (optional shore excursion). Alternatively, taken time to explore Katakolon’s flower-filled streets, or perhaps unwind in one of the many cafés.

Overnight: MSC Cruises - ‘MSC Musica’ ship
Meals included: Breakfast;Lunch;Dinner

Whitewashed villages clinging to the rugged sea cliffs have made the volcanic island of Santorini one of the most widely photographed places in the world. The island's charm and subtle mystery have even made it a target of speculation as to the location of the lost city of Atlantis. After exploring Santorini, depart for Piraeus (Athens) tonight.

Overnight: MSC Cruises - ‘MSC Musica’ ship
Meals included: Breakfast;Lunch;Dinner

After breakfast, disembark and be met and transferred to your hotel. You may take the remainder of the day at leisure in the world's ancient capital.

Overnight: President Hotel Athens or similar, Athens
Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast, at the appropriate time, be transferred to the airport for your return flight back to Australia.

Please note: if your flight departs early, breakfast will be arranged for pick up from the hotel reception the night before.

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction in which he or she is guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves the group at the end of the tour, they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides in each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village, and offer information on the place visited on the bus, however they are not required to have specific knowledge on art, architecture, or history. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when particularly required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
From March through May, the weather in Athens is pleasant and mild. The average daytime high temperatures range from 15°C degrees in March to 26°C degrees in May. It's a popular time for tourists to visit because kids are still in school, tourist areas are less crowded and the weather is perfect. June through August are the peak temperature times in Athens. The average daytime high ranges from 29°C degrees in June to 33°C degrees in August. The temperatures make the beaches of Greece a popular place to be. Fall temperatures in Athens are similar to the spring temperatures. Average daily highs range from 28°C degrees in September to 18°C degrees in November.
