Optional Tour: Historic Melaka Day Tour - $70 AUD per person
Located two hours from Kuala Lumpur, Melaka is the place where the nation was born, where the past and present meets. The history of Malaysia is said to have originated here, a great seaport where the Portuguese, Dutch and English once ruled. This once powerful and prosperous trading port is now a delightfully historic city. Visit St. Paul’s Hill and A’Famosa Fort for a view of the Straits. Photo stop at the Stadhuys Building and the ruins of St. Paul’s Church. Enjoy a local Peranakan lunch followed by a stroll along Jonker’s Street, otherwise known as ‘Antique Row’. Today you will be picked up from the hotel and visit the Batu Caves Temple en route to Cameron Highlands. The limestone forming Batu Caves is said to be around 400 million years old and its cavernous interior is home to Hindu deities. Rising almost 100m above the ground, the Batu Caves Temple complex consists of three main caves and a few smaller ones. The largest, referred to as Cathedral Cave or Temple Cave, has a very high ceiling and features ornate Hindu shrines. To reach it, visitors must climb a steep flight of 272 steps.

Please note: Customers who are reasonably fit should not have any problem climbing the steps up to the temple. If you do not wish to make the climb, you can browse the shops that are available at ground level.

Afterwards stop for lunch at a local restaurant in Tapah before continuing to Iskandar Waterfalls for a short photo stop. You may also meet some aborigines at their homes and maybe witness a blowpipe demonstration. Next continue on to Cameron Highlands, which is 1,542m above sea level and is famous for its world renowned tea. You will enjoy a couple of stops along the way for you to stretch your legs and take some photos of the scenery. Upon arrival check in and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. As the weather is much cooler in the highlands, a light sweater is recommended in the evenings.

Overnight: Heritage Hotel, Cameron Highlands
Meals included: Breakfast;Lunch

Today, after breakfast, enjoy the tranquil scenery as you travel to the BOH Tea Plantation. The BOH Tea Plantation has a total of 8,000 acres planted with tea and is the largest tea plantation in South East Asia. The view of green rolling hills, with the neat regular rows of tea plants, is truly breathtaking. The guided factory tour of how the tea leaf is processed is very educational and interesting.

This afternoon will be at leisure, alternatively your tour guide can suggest some optional activities (at your own expense).

Overnight: Heritage Hotel, Cameron Highlands
Meals included: Breakfast

Today check out after breakfast and depart for Ipoh along a scenic route via Simpang Pulai. Upon arrival in Ipoh, enjoy a tour of the city covering the Old Town with its collection of old government and bank buildings and the Railway Station, which is one of the grandest train stations in Southeast Asia. Other historical buildings that you will see include the High Court, Royal Ipoh Club, St Michael Institution and Birch Memorial Clock Tower. You will also visit Concubine Lane, which has more than a century of history attached to it. A well known mining tycoon gifted this lane to one of his concubines so she could collect the rent from the houses as her income. Next you will move onto Little India, famous for its Malaysian Indian cuisine. Stop for lunch to savour some of the local delicacies at your own expense. After lunch, you will enjoy a short visit to Sam Poh Tong Temple. Said to be the biggest cave temple in the country, it's an impressive work of art with various statues of Buddha interspersed among the stalactites and stalagmites.

Afterwards you will visit the Kek Lok Tong Cave, also known as the Cave of Great Happiness. Covering an area of 12 acres with amazing sculptures, statues, limestone hills, stalactites, stalagmites and gardens, Kek Lok Tong Cave opened in 1920 as a place of worship. In 1960, it became a part of an iron mining operation and now it’s maintained as a temple for worship and also as a tourist attraction. As you make your way up the steps to the temple, look out for the stone miniatures that dot the way. As you make your way through the cave temple, be sure to check out the stalactites and stalagmites that form the cave interior. At the end is a Zen garden with gazebos, a reflexology path, monkeys and flowers. Next, proceed to the hotel and after check in enjoy the evening at leisure.

Overnight: Mu Hotel or similar, Ipoh
Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast, check out and head to Bukit Merah Laketown. Upon arrival, take a boat to Orang Utan Island. As you step onto the jetty, keep a look out, as you may spot an orangutan or two, swinging from tree to tree, maybe even taking a nap. As you walk along the boardwalk you will learn amazing facts about this intelligent primate. A walk through the semi-circle steel-fence tunnel enclosure is a humbling experience, where we humans, seemingly in a cage, can peer out and be captivated by the orangutans roaming free beyond the trees.

Afterwards continue onto Penang and check into the hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

Combine three distinct and ancient cultures, indigenous and colonial architecture, shake for a few centuries, and garnish with some of the best food in Southeast Asia, and you've got the irresistible urban cocktail that is George Town. Renowned for street food, you will be spoiled for choice as you meander your way around town. Food can be found on almost every corner, so be adventurous and try the food, standing by the roadside!

Overnight: The Wembley Hotel, Penang
Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast, start your orientation tour of George Town. George Town, named after King George III, is home to a picture-perfect mix of colonial architecture, grand temples, and some truly impressive street art. This tour begins with a visit to the Thai Buddhist Temple which houses the 108 ft long Reclining Buddha. Sitting across the road is the Burmese Buddhist Temple. The bustling waterfront jetties, houses built directly over the water, come next. This quirky village dating back to the early Chinese immigrants, giving insight to Penang’s past.

Next, a visit to the Pinang Peranakan Mansion which was built at the end of the 19th century, the typical home of a rich Baba of a century ago is recreated to offer a glimpse of their opulent lifestyle and of their many customs and traditions. Along the way, check out ‘Little India’, a colourful place which offers many specialised Indian stores and eating places. Take time to browse the Indian specialties such as spices, Indian music, garlands, trinkets and gold jewellery. Next enjoy some time free at leisure to perhaps explore further. Meet back at the designated waiting area by 3pm and transfer back to the hotel or you can choose to continue exploring on your own.

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction in which he or she is guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves the group at the end of the tour, they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides in each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village, and offer information on the place visited on the bus, however they are not required to have specific knowledge on art, architecture, or history. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when particularly required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.
