This morning you will be picked up and transferred to Cape Town Airport for your flight onwards to Johannesburg. Please note: some flights may depart Cape Town as early as 6:00am and involve an early wake up to ensure you make your afternoon game drive. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to the 5 star Ivory Tree Game Lodge in the Pilanesberg National Park (approx. 2.5-3 hours) where you will arrive in time for your first afternoon game drive.

Pilanesberg Game Reserve is set in the crater of a long extinct volcano, and ranks among the largest of the parks in South Africa. It’s situated within the transition zone between the dry Kalahari and the wetter Lowveld vegetation, commonly referred to as Bushveld. Unique overlaps of mammals, birds and vegetation occur due to this transition zone. The fascinating combination of geology, landscape and rainfall gives rise to different patterns of vegetation - wide open grasslands, steep hill slopes, rocky outcrops, wooded valleys, thickets and thickly wooded gorges.

Pilanesberg accommodates virtually every mammal of southern Africa and is also home to healthy populations of lion, leopard, black and white rhino, elephant and buffalo. A wide variety of rare and common species exist here such as the nocturnal brown hyaena, the fleet-footed cheetah and the majestic sable. Bird watching is excellent with over 300 species recorded.

Ivory Tree Game Lodge is a five-star game lodge located inside the Pilanesberg Game Reserve. Elegantly furnished with African themes, each of the lodge’s thatched rooms feature a patio, air-conditioning and en-suite bathroom with bath and shower. The main area consists of two lounges, a cocktail bar, dining room, outdoor pool and a fire pit. The safari lodge experience includes guided game drives through the magnificent game reserve in a 10-seater safari vehicle. Other activities offered in the surrounding area include archery, quad biking and bird watching (not included - available at extra cost).

Begin the day with an early morning game drive through the reserve. Game drives are conducted in comfortable, open 4X4 Land Rovers accompanied by professional English speaking field rangers and trackers, ensuring an informative and detailed safari experience. Keep your cameras ready for some incredible photo opportunities. Return to the lodge mid-morning for breakfast and a little R&R before heading out again to spot more wildlife on an evening safari. Afterwards, wind down your evening with a few sundowners before dinner.

After your morning safari and breakfast, it’s time to check out. You will be picked up and transferred to Johannesburg. En route you will enjoy a guided tour of Soweto. Soweto is a place of contrasts: pitted roads and littered sidewalks offset green parks; a mishmash of tin shanties; some their original grey or red brick, others beautifully renovated and some turned into luxurious mansions.

The area is rich in history of the apartheid movement and also responsible for many political, sporting and social luminaries, including Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu - two Nobel peace prize laureates, who once lived in the now world famous Vilakazi Street in Orlando West (entrance fee to the Mandela House is not included). There may also be an opportunity for a dinner stop (not included). Arrive at Johannesburg Airport this evening for your return flight back to Australia via Singapore.

Please note: some Adelaide customers may experience a stopover in Singapore of up to eight hours. A three-hour lounge pass will be provided and affected customers will have the opportunity to leave the airport and explore Singapore for the afternoon/evening if they wish ensuring they return back to the airport three hours prior to their onward flight to Australia.

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction in which he or she is guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves the group at the end of the tour, they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides in each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village, and offer information on the place visited on the bus, however they are not required to have specific knowledge on art, architecture, or history. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when particularly required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.
