A few of the standout attractions in the area include the Dutch Fort, St. Mary’s Church, and Angurukaramulla Buddhist Temple.

Afterwards, continue to Dambulla and visit the famous Dambulla Rock Cave Temple . An icon of Sri Lanka, it houses unique drawings in five magnificently constructed cave temples flanking the golden temple of Dambulla. As you enter the retreat, look straight up to the gigantic Buddha statue glittering in gold. At the end of your tour you will be transferred to the hotel.

Overnight Sigiriya/Kandalama Area (Standard or Premium Hotel Option) Meals included: Breakfast

Today enjoy the day at leisure, or take the opportunity to join an optional morning tour to Sigiriya Rock Fortress (not included) or an afternoon Minneriya National Park Safari optional tour (not included) - or if you like there is time to do both!

Optional Morning Tour: Sigiriya Rock Fortress
Sigiriya, the 5th century rock citadel of King Kasyapa, is a UNESCO World Heritage listed site and one of the finest monuments in Sri Lanka. Surrounded by ramparts and moats, Sigiriya - the Lion Rock - is coated by frescoes that relate to Gupta style paintings found in the Ajanta caves of India. Wander through the symmetrical royal gardens, through the ‘lion paws’ at the base of monument, and ascend the rock for a magnificent view of the surrounding countryside. Delve into the fascinating history of the site at the Sigiriya Museum downstairs.

Optional Afternoon Tour: Minneriya National Park Safari
If you're up for a serious rumble in the jungle, then Minneriya is your Colosseum! Spreading over 8800 hectares, this is a sanctuary for elephants. Minneriya is also home to herds of deer and ample birdlife, but its star remains between swaying trunks and flapping ears. Your guide will park the jeep on the bank of the reservoir and switch off its engine with the hope that herds of elephants, one by one will stroll the grass covered banks to feed on tender shoots.

Overnight Sigiriya/Kandalama, (Standard or Premium Hotel Option) Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast at the hotel travel to Matale to visit an authentic spice garden. An agricultural zone in the Central Province, Matale makes a remarkable contribution to the crops of the island; from tea to rubber, vegetables and spices. Uncover the therapeutic values of spices and learn what it takes to produce these fragrant delights over a refreshing cup of herbal tea.

Continue onto Kandy and enjoy an afternoon city tour. Last ruled by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, before it was brought under the British rule in 1815, a World Heritage Listed city offering an array of cultural and historic delights. Experience the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha, with an ancient Kandyan legacy engraved around its crown jewel. A stroll across this lakeside city, cradled among the misty hills, will take in the city centre, as well as a bazaar, arts and crafts centre and gem, and lapidary museum. Walk in colour as you glide through fresh fruits and vegetables in the Kandy market. Tonight, step to the beat of traditional music and drumming amplified by a cultural show revealing the rich and vibrant culture of Sri Lanka.

Overnight Kandy (Standard or Premium Hotel Option) Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast transfer to the Peradeniya Railway Station and enjoy a scenic train ride to Nuwara Eliya. The very first steam trains were running in Sri Lanka to bring tea, the greatest commercial export of colonial Ceylon, to Colombo. Major Thomas Skinner was instrumental in convincing the British colonial government to spend approximately £800,000 to set up the network of railway lines, bridges and aqueducts needed for the line. Today it stands as one of the most scenic train journeys in the world. Enjoy an incredible journey through the rolling hills covered with tea estate after tea estate. Upon arrival in Nuwara Eliya you will be transferred to the hotel.

Overnight: Nuwara Eliya (Standard or Premium Hotel Option) Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast enjoy a panoramic city tour of Nuwara Eliya, and head into the hills covered in lush green blankets of tea plantations. Step into a tea factory that processes the prestigious brand of Ceylon Tea and experience a rich tradition which has been kept alive since the early 1800s. Observe the hissing and swishing of machines while inhaling the heavenly scent arising from these facilities. End the tour with a perfectly blended cup of pure Ceylon Tea. After the tour continue onwards to Colombo. Don't forget to ask your guide to pre-book a table for you at the famous Ministry of Crab for dinner (not included).

Overnight: Colombo (Standard or Premium Hotel Option) Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast and check out, around mid morning, proceed to Colombo for a city tour. A race course, which was a horse racing hub in 1893 and a World War II airstrip, will be your first stop. The course is now furnished with lavish clothing, food and tea boutiques. After, head to Pettah to explore the Floating Market's architecturally designed stalls, where concrete floors and minimalist decor are designed to reflect the calm water of the lake below. Afterwards, head to Independence Square, where the revamped shopping arcade has turned the colonial masterpiece into one of the trendiest shopping areas in Sri Lanka. Listen for the chiming bells of Gangaramaya Temple.

Early this evening you will be transferred to the airport for your return flight back to Australia.
