Itinerary - 1

Today depart from Sydney, *Melbourne or *Brisbane for Tianjin! Fly with either Tianjin Airlines, Hainan Airlines, China Southern Airlines or Air China to name a few (subject to availability). Upon arrival, a tour representative will meet you at the airport and then escort you to check-in to your hotel. Please note: Due to flight times and scheduling some customers may be required to be at the airport the day before (Depart day 0).

Today depart for Beijing (approx. 1.5 hours). Your exploration of Beijing begins with a visit to Tiananmen Square, one of the largest public squares in the world, and then takes in the Imperial Palace in the Forbidden City. The Forbidden City, also known officially as the Imperial Palace Museum, was originally constructed by the third Emperor of the Ming Dynasty, Emperor Yong Le, where 24 emperors once lived successionally. The palace was built between 1406 and 1420, but was burnt down, rebuilt, sacked and renovated countless times, so most of the architecture you can see today dates from the 1700s and onwards. Afterwards, visit a pearl factory to gain a little knowledge of fresh pearls.

Tonight, take the opportunity to attend an optional large scale dramatic musical, “The Golden Mask Dynasty” (not included).

Overnight: Beijing Hotel Meals included: Breakfast

On the way to the Great Wall, stop at a Jade Museum to learn the history of jade. In Chinese, jade is pronounced as “Yu”, and it has a history in China of at least four thousand years. Observe the skilled artisans at work as they create their intricate designs. Afterwards take a scenic drive through the countryside and mountains to reach China’s most renowned monument—the Great Wall. You will visit the less-touristy and more original Juyong Pass, avoiding other sections which are the most accessible and consequently most crowded. The Great Wall meanders through China’s northern mountain ranges from the Yellow Sea to the Gobi Desert - a distance of more than 3500 miles.

In the afternoon, take the opportunity to join an optional tour to see Beijing’s 700-year- old Hutong (narrow lanes) area by old fashioned pedicab (not included), as well as visit a local family living in a courtyard style home to experience the local customs of old Beijing people and their unique architectural structure.

Overnight: Beijing Hotel Meals included: Breakfast;Lunch

This morning make a stop at Tongrentang, founded in 1669, to learn more about traditional Chinese medicine. Afterwards visit Beijing Zoo and see a diverse collection of animals, including giant pandas.

Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure or take the opportunity to join an optional ‘Beijing Insights and Secrets’ half day tour (not included). See sights including the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Temple of Heaven, surrounded by several Imperial buildings, altars and temples where Ming emperors would fast, give thanks and offerings to the Gods at the start of each new Spring. Next, gain a new perspective of the immensity of the Forbidden City from the top of the pagoda in Jingshan Park. High on a hill overlooking the city, this is the best place to take in stunning views of not only the Forbidden City, but the ancient heart of Beijing.

Overnight: Beijing Hotel Meals included: Breakfast

This morning transfer to Beijing Railway Station for a high speed train ride to Zhengzhou (approx. 3.5hours). Zhengzhou is a metropolis on the Yellow River and is the capital of the east-central Henan province. Upon arrival visit the pyramid-shaped Henan Museum, one of the major museums in China and the largest centre for the collection, protection, study and display of cultural relics in the hinterland of the Central Plain.

Overnight: Zhengzhou Hotel Meals included: Breakfast

Enjoy some time free at leisure today or take the opportunity to join an optional full-day ‘Shaolin Kung Fu Tour’ (not included). Visit the Shaolin Temple, nestled in the forested mountains of Henan it’s the birthplace of Kung Fu and Zen Buddhism. Next you will visit the Pagoda Forest, where hundreds of stone pagodas and memorials to past monks, are tightly grouped together in the forest. You may also have the chance to watch the exciting Shaolin Kung Fu performance at the Martial Arts Hall (subject to availability).

You cannot only appreciate fine ancient constructions, but also calligraphy and carving arts. Then view Erqi Strike Monument Tower from the outside. The highlight of today is a visit to the Qin Shi Huang Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum. Unearthed near Xi’an in 1974, there are 8000 life size sculptures of soldiers, chariots, and horses covering 20,000 square metres. With different facial expressions and weaponry adorning each soldier, the Terracotta Warriors were believed to have been created to accompany the Qin Emperor into the afterlife. This site is among the top archaeological excavations of the 20th century. The sheer scale of the Terracotta Warriors will leave you reeling. Afterwards visit the Terracotta Warriors Reproduction Factory.

Tonight you have an opportunity to enjoy a special Imperial Dumpling Banquet and traditional Tang Dynasty Singing & Dancing Show (not included).

June/July is the beginning of summer. Generally speaking, clear days are the norm and there is still a big temperature difference between day and night. Daily temperatures are usually in the high 20's.

August is the peak summer month with temperatures similar to July but with the nights remaining in the 20's. Long days of sunshine are there to enjoy!

September is praised as the golden month in Beijing, is cool, clear. Everywhere presents a harvest scene. The summer heat has gone. The weather can still be hot in the afternoons during early September, but it is delightfully cool in the morning and evening. From late September, the temperature difference between day and night gets obvious, but it still feels pleasant even at night.
