After breakfast, enjoy a guided city tour of Negombo. This vibrant coastal city is renowned for its wonderfully fresh seafood, as well as fantastic diving opportunities. Following the tour, travel to Sigiriya and stop at the Unesco World Heritage listed Sigiriya Rock Fortress - also known as 'Lion Rock'. Here take the opportunity to join an optional guided tour of the fortress (not included). Built by King Kashyapa in 477-495 AD, Sigiriya Rock Fortress rises 200m above the jungle and offers stunning views of the area. Afterwards, continue to the hotel.

Overnight: Sigiriya (Standard Or Premium Hotel Option) Meals included: Breakfast

Following breakfast at the hotel, travel to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. Upon arrival, take the opportunity to join an optional guided city tour (not included), or enjoy some free time. The city of Polonnaruwa, a medieval capital, is considered the crown jewel of King Parakramabahu I. Walk across the scattered walls of this World Heritage Site, gazing in wonder at the stupas, resting Buddha statues, irrigation canals and fantastically carved Hindu sculptures. The relic house - Watadage - boasts beautiful stone carvings. Return to the hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Overnight: Sigiriya (Standard Or Premium Hotel Option) Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast, travel to Dambulla and stop at the Rock Cave Temple. Take the opportunity to join an optional guided tour of the Rock Cave (not included). An icon of Sri Lanka, Dambulla Rock Cave Temple houses unique drawings in five magnificently constructed cave temples flanking the golden temple of Dambulla. See beautiful cave paintings along walls that shelter 150 statues of Lord Buddha. As you enter, look straight up to the gigantic Buddha statue glittering in gold.

Afterwards continue to Kandy. Upon arrival take the opportunity to join an optional guided city tour (not included). The World Heritage site, and last royal capital of Sri Lankan kings, is a centre of culture, history and heritage. Experience the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. A stroll across this small lakeside town - cradled among the misty hills - will take in the Kandy city centre, as well as a bazaar, arts and crafts centre, and gem and lapidary museum. Get a taste of local life with a wander through the Kandy market. Afterwards, head to the hotel and enjoy a cultural show in the evening with the tour group (included).

Overnight: Kandy (Standard Or Premium Hotel Option) Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast, depart for Pinnawala to visit the Elephant Orphanage. Established in 1975, Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage was originally home to just seven orphans. Today some of these orphans enjoy the fortune of seeing their grandchildren born in the same location. The original objective of the orphanage was more inclined towards tourism, however it soon became a conservation and educational centre. Afterwards, return to the hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Overnight: Kandy (Standard Or Premium Hotel Option) Meals included: Breakfast

After breakfast continue to Galle, where you'll enjoy a guided city tour. As you walk the streets, see how European architecture mingles with South Asian traditions. Preserved for more than three centuries, the Galle Dutch Fortress still has its original ramparts and bastions. Beyond the old gate baring the British coat of arms you will see the Zwart bastion, the lighthouse and the Point Utretcht Bastion. Venture into the Dutch Hospital Shopping Complex for a wide range of souvenirs. After the tour, continue to Koggala to your hotel.

Overnight: Koggala (Standard Or Premium Hotel Option) Meals included: Breakfast

Following breakfast, travel to the capital city of Colombo. In the afternoon embark on a guided city tour. A race course, which was a horse racing hub in 1893 and a World War II airstrip, will be your first stop. The course is now furnished with lavish clothing, food and tea boutiques. Afterwards, head to Pettah to visit the Floating Market's architecturally designed stalls, where concrete floors and minimalist decor are designed to reflect the calm water of the lake below. Afterwards, head to Independence Square, where the revamped shopping arcade has turned the colonial masterpiece into one of the trendiest shopping areas in Sri Lanka. Listen for the chiming bells of Gangaramaya Temple, before heading to the hotel to enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Overnight: Colombo (Standard Or Premium Hotel Option) Meals included: Breakfast

Today after breakfast, check out of the hotel and organise your luggage to be stored with reception. Enjoy a last minute shopping opportunity with some free time, or take part in one of the two optional tours (not included) that would satisfy the foodie in any of us! CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
Sri Lanka is a year round destination with two monsoon seasons so there is a lot of confusion around when is the best time to visit. The weather doesn’t run like clockwork here! However, there will rarely be weather so dramatic that it will stand in the way of a brilliant holiday with plenty of warm weather and sunshine. The temperature is constant at around 27°C on the coast, both the air and the water!

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction in which he or she is guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves the group at the end of the tour, they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides in each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village, and offer information on the place visited on the bus, however they are not required to have specific knowledge on art, architecture, or history. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when particularly required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

COACH TOUR

Daily breakfast is included in the tour, for all other meals; lunches and dinners the tour leader (when available) will offer assistance with reservations, suggestions and directions to local restaurants. You will be responsible for all your personal belongings whilst on the tour. With regards to luggage, you must carry your own luggage from the coach to the hotel room and back to the coach. The driver will assist with the uploading and off-loading of their luggage from the coach.

Gratuities:
Gratuities (tips) are not included in the tour price for services of the tour leader (when available) and driver throughout the tour. The recommended tip for the tour leader and driver is 1000 rupees (approx. $9 AUD) per person per day, which will be collected whilst on tour.
