Today depart from Australia for Santiago, Chile. It is a long way to Colombia and Santiago is the perfect place to break up the journey - and enjoy a little extra sightseeing. Upon arrival in Chile, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The next two nights will be spent in Santiago.

The day is free to spend at your leisure. You can relax at the hotel, or choose to take in some of the city's many attractions. Plaza de Armas, San Cristóbal Hill, La Moneda Palace, and the Santiago Metropolitan Park are just a few of the sights worth visiting.

After breakfast, be transferred to Santiago Airport to travel onwards to Bogotá, Colombia. Located 2600 meters above sea level, this capital city of eight million people is the biggest in Colombia - and the heart of the El Dorado legend. At your arrival in El Dorado Airport, you will be welcomed by a representative and transferred to your hotel.

Following breakfast, discover both Bogotá’s old and new side in detail on a guided city tour. Begin this tour by visiting its historic centre, La Candelaria. This part of the city consists of important buildings from the colonial times, which boasts bustling plazas, churches, and museums. Continue the tour by passing through Bolivar Square, where the presidential palace and Capitol building are located. It is also an important reference point because in this square most of the important historical events of the country have occurred.

Continue onwards to Museo Botero, a colonial house with a collection of artworks from the famous Colombian painter Fernando Botero, then the Mint House, which exhibits gorgeous pieces of art from colonial times and then to Gabriel Garcia Marques Cultural Centre, which was built to honor the Colombian literature Nobel laureate and El Chorro de Quevedo, the place where Santa Fe de Bogota was founded.

Afterwards, walk to the Golden Museum to discover its fantastic collection of gleaming gold pre-Hispanic artefacts and precious stones. It is considered one of the largest gold collections in the world and you will see how the pre-Hispanic societies harvested and used gold and other precious metals. To conclude your tour visit Monserrate Hill via the cableway to obtain an extraordinary panoramic view of the city. At the end of the tour, you will have leisure time to explore the other wonders Colombia's capital has to offer.

Today after breakfast, you will transfer to Bogotá Airport to board your flight to Armenia, a city at the heart of the coffee growing industry of Colombia (flight time approx. one-hour). Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to the small, authentic Andean town of Salento - 45 minutes away. The Salento region is an area full of lush green landscapes coming from the Enjoy a tour of a local coffee farm and experience life as a coffee farmer by getting involved with every step of the growing and brewing process to create the perfect cup of coffee, from the harvesting to the roasting and everything in between. Taste different special varieties of coffee that the region has to offer. Afterwards transfer to your accommodation to enjoy the rest of your day at leisure and explore everything this charming little town has to offer.

After breakfast, you will drive 15 minutes from the town of Salento to enjoy a four-hour horseback tour of the famous Cocora Valley. The Cocora Valley is an impressive natural valley and green cloud forest surrounded by Quindio wax palms, an endemic palm that grows to around 60 metres. After the tour, taste a delicious dish of “Trucha” (local trout) and Patacona Frita (fried bananas) with cheese and fresh salad, while enjoying the relaxing mountains views (vegan and vegetarian options can also be provided). Return back to Salento and enjoy a guided tour around the picturesque town and surrounds.

After breakfast, check out of your accommodation and continue your journey to the picturesque town of Guatape (approx. seven-hours travel), which sits on the edge of a beautiful man made reservoir dotted with islands which are the result of a hydroelectric dam built in the 1960s. Upon arrival, start your tour of the region by climbing around 500 steps of the iconic 200-metre high El Peñol rock formation. Enjoy the stunning view of the town, and the beautiful bays and islets that are scattered across the reservoir. Afterwards, enjoy a boat trip across the dam to the “fantasy island” and then enjoy a tasty lunch in front of the dam. The rest of the day is yours to spend at leisure.

Today after breakfast travel to Medellín, the second largest city in Colombia (approx. two hours travel). Home to two million inhabitants, the mountainous city of Medellín is is an important fashion and commercial centre within Latin America. Upon arrival, begin a city tour to explore the two faces of the city - the painful legacy of the eighties, and the positive transformations that have turned it into the dynamic and world-class city of today. Start in Botero Square, famous for its oversized statues. Continue to the model Paisa Little Town, the Botanical Gardens, The Planetarium, Los Deseos Park, Pies Descalzos Park and Explora Park. Afterwards, travel to your hotel accommodation and enjoy the rest of your day at leisure.

After breakfast you will be picked up to experience a 360-degree view of the city from the top of the city’s famous cableway. Visit Spain Library, known for its modern and unique design, and Arvi Park, a vital area for environmental conservation. Next, travel onwards to Santa Elena, a small town where farmers have been growing an abundance of tropical and local varieties of flowers for generations. Finish your tour with a local dish called Bandeja Paisa, a flavoursome meal popular amongst the working class ‘Paisas’. Return to the city for an afternoon at leisure.

After breakfast transfer to Medellín Airport to board your flight to the city of Santa Marta on the Caribbean Coast (approx. 1.5-hours). Santa Marta was the first city founded in Colombia in 1525 and is now an important commercial port and tourist destination.

Upon arrival, you will be received by your tour guide to begin a city tour encompassing the cultural and historical sights this amazing city has to offer. Begin with the Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino, home to the tomb of Simon Bolivar, a leading military leader who fought for the independence of Colombia from Spanish rule.

Later, delicious drinks and a delectable local seafood lunch will be provided. After, walk along the beautiful pier onwards to the Cathedral, Santo Domingo Convent, and the monument of Carlos “El Pibe” Valderrama, one of Colombia's most charismatic and beloved football players. Finish day off in the magnificent Taganga Bay area, where your accommodation for the night will be located.

Aside from its dazzling beauty, Tayrona National Park is vital for its biological and archaeological wealth. This natural park is located in the Santa Marta Mountain range, the largest coastal mountain in the world. This area is also the ancestral home for the Tayronas indigenous people, who built ceremonial temples and sacred places to live in harmony with nature. Take a quick transfer to Neguaje (approx. one-hour travel from Taganga Bay), then enjoy a boat ride to Crystal Beach (Playa Cristal) - a stunning beach known for its abundant coral. Take the opportunity to snorkel (snorkels not included, available to rent), and observe the coral reefs or relax on the beach. On the way, take in stunning views from The Seven Waves beach. Return to the Neguaje and transfer onwards to your accommodation in Palomino on the outskirts of the park (two-hours travel from Neguaje).

This morning transfer onwards to Cartagena, the most visited city in Colombia. The journey takes approx. four hours, travelling along the Caribbean highway, an iconic road that connects the Colombian Caribbean coast from the east to west. Situated on situated a beautiful bay, Cartagena has the most extensive fortifications in South America. In the afternoon, tour the beautiful Walled City to discover the charms of its vibrant streets, music, energy, monasteries, churches, parks, convents, houses, and people. Afterwards continue to Castillo de San Felipe, an impressive military fortress built by the Spanish in the colonial period. To conclude the tour, enjoy a gorgeous Caribbean sunset and views of the city from Cerro de la Popa.

Located on a high plateau in the Northern Andes Mountains, the city of Bogota is 2640m above sea level and has a subtropical highland climate, meaning it is cool during the day with average temperatures of 13°C and 5°C at night. Summer months can produce temperatures in excess of 21°C during the day, while winter can produce below freezing temperatures at night. On average, temperatures in the Colombian capital remain relatively stable throughout the year as compared to more seasonal countries such as the USA, Europe and Australia. 

Cartagena features a tropical wet and dry climate. Humidity averages around 90%, with rainy seasons typically in May – June and October – November. The climate tends to be hot and windy with daily means temperatures of 28°C year round.

Tour Guide: 
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction in which he or she is guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves the group at the end of the tour, they do not travel with the group. 

Tour Leader: 
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides in each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village, and offer information on the place visited on the bus, however they are not required to have specific knowledge on art, architecture, or history. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and if caught doing so, can be fined. 

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all TripADeal travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when particularly required to enhance the experience of the destination featured. 

Some meals including daily breakfast are included in the tour. For all other meals; lunches and dinners the tour leader (when available) will offer assistance with reservations, suggestions and directions to local restaurants. You can also enquire about any allergies and food and if necessary advise meals to be to be prepared with any medication you require.

You will be responsible for all your personal belongings whilst on the tour. With regards to luggage, you must carry your own luggage from the coach to the hotel room and back to the coach. The driver will assist with the uploading and offloading of their luggage from the coach.

Gratuities (tips) are not included in the tour price for services of the tour leader (when available) and driver throughout the tour. Tipping is not expected in Colombia but is always appreciated if you believe the services provided justify it.

Fitness Level Required / Mobility:
Our vehicles are not equipped with wheelchair access, so unfortunately our tours are currently not suitable for wheelchair users and those less mobile. 
Please note: a standard level of fitness will be required. This tour will include a fair amount of walking during tours but nothing overly demanding besides the El Penol stairs in Guatape which is not mandatory. If you have any health concerns please consult your healthcare provider prior to purchase/travel.

Colombia is listed by the World Health Organization (WHO) as endemic for yellow fever.
Please note: inoculations may be required to enter the country visited, along with re entry into Australia after your visit. It is your responsibility to consult with your travel doctor for up to date medical travel information well before departure.
