The ‘Sacred Valley’ tour involves a pick up from your hotel at 8:00am. This is a full day excursion to the Urubamba Valley visiting the colourful Indian market in Pisac, where you will be able to appreciate the mixture of colour and tradition. Here you will have the opportunity to test your bartering skills, interact with the local craftsmen and purchase hand-made souvenirs. After Pisac travel to Urubamba, and continue on to Ollantaytambo, the oldest continuously occupied town on the American continent. The narrow streets of Ollantaytambo, along with their canals, have not changed much from the time of the Inca Empire. The last visit will be the Chinchero market. Chinchero is believed to be the mythical birthplace of the rainbow. Its major claim to tourism is its colourful Sunday market, which is much less tourist-orientated than the market at Pisac. At the end of the tour, return to the Plaza de Armas in Cusco at approximately 6:30pm. The night will be free for you to eat in a restaurant of your choice.

Casa Andina Classic, Cusco Plaza Meals included: Breakfast

Depart Cusco at 9:00am. First stop is Maras to visit the salt mines. The salt mines display a bizarre spectacle of beauty. Located on a wide-open hill above the Urubamba Valley, a natural salt-water stream runs underground. Since pre-Incan times, they have been evaporating the salty water from this stream in order to obtain the salt that gets left behind. How it works: The highly salty water emerges at a spring, a natural outlet of the underground stream. The flow is directed into an intricate system of tiny channels constructed so that the water runs gradually down onto the several hundred ancient terraced ponds. The water, which is exposed to the sun, leaves salt on the land. Viewed from the peak, the myriad of rectangles look like an enormous painting designed by nature. After the salt mines, continue on a short distance to the Moray ruins. The ruins are composed of three colosseums used by the Incas as a sort of open-air crop laboratory. The colosseums consist of several enormous terraced circular depressions, the largest of which is about 30m/98ft deep. The purpose of these depressions are uncertain but their depth and orientation with respect to wind and sun, creates a temperature difference of as much as 15 °C/27 °F between the top and bottom. This large temperature difference was possibly used by the Incas to study the effects of different climatic conditions on crops. The terraces are arranged in concentric circles and are reminiscent of an ancient Greek theatre. In the afternoon, return to your hotel in Cusco.

Casa Andina Classic, Cusco Plaza Meals included: Breakfast

You will visit two different islands and the guide will explain a little about the history and lifestyle of the people who have lived on these islands for many years, and you will also have the opportunity to talk with the people of these islands and visit their homes to learn a little about their lifestyle. Afterwards, sail to Taquile Island (approximately two hours). The island is a traditional Quechua speaking community, full of ancient agricultural terraces and some ruins dating back to the pre-Inca times. The Taquile population was relatively isolated from the mainland until 1950s and the importance of community and family is still very strong. When you reach the island, walk up along a narrow path, enjoying impressive views of Lake Titicaca and seeing gorgeous traditional houses inhabited by the direct descendants of the Incan Culture. Have some free time to explore the Island on your own and afterwards meet the group for lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, head down to the harbour to take a one-hour boat ride to the peninsula Chucuito, South of the city of Puno, where the Luquina Karina community is located. Luquina Karina has remained relatively untouched and tourism is a new concept here - the inhabitants are very willing to receive visitors in their community, and be warm ly received by the families, who will take you to their homes to spend the night.

We had the most amazing holiday to Peru and the Amazon. What a trip! To sum it up, each day got "better and better". Trip a Deal really know how to put a top quality, value for money package together. Definitely going to travel with them again.

We went to Peru on the twentieth of April with TripAdeal. It was the most brilliant trip. We had a homestay on Lake Titicaca and we were shown how to dance a wonderful folkloristic dance. Their fluid movements and genuine smiles says it all. Our stay with these people was so insightful. Peru has so much to offer, not just Machu Picchu.
